Hi guys, as an ex disgruntled postal worker I am happy to clarify some things for you. #1 tracking is relatively new to the Post Office, as in the last 18 months or less new. Yes there has been delivery confirmation but unknown fact... Delivery confirmation is JUST that, it's scanned at time of delivery, that is all.
#2 If a package is shipped without insurance if it is lost or damaged it is NOT COVERED. That is the beauty of cheaper shipping. It does happen but not as often as some think. You as the consumer must decide if the value of the package outweighs the cost of insurance which is pretty minimal considering.
#3 the USPS has the most inexpensive postage in the world. It cost 45 CENTS to send a 1 ounce or under letter thousands of miles!! If you don't believe me check any other country's postage rates!! I believe the only 1 even close is Australia.
#4 with the economy as it is postal workers are now required to do twice the work for 1/4 the respect, 1/2 the time, for less pay. I worked for the USPS for 8 years, the hubs has been with them since 96. With the new contract last year we EACH lost 10 hours a week AND $1 an hour. Together we lost about $2000 a month!! While the cost of living sky rocketed our pay did not... See above. Supervisors started threatening and giving the worst jobs to the hardest workers. There were times I worked until 6:30-7 at night and had to be back at work at 1-3am. That wasn't even Christmas time either. They are over worked, exausted, and under appreciated. Some days are 10-12 hour days. If they get sick or hurt they are WROTE up and treated by management terribly!! When my husband was a carrier he was threatened when a customer didn't get a check in the mail as if he has any control over that. Clerks are threatened and treated badly because if decisions management makes. Yes some clerks are crabby sometimes but you have no idea the hours they put in or the work they've done before they even open that window. Or that they haven't had a break in 6 hours. Or that a supervisor harasses them constantly trying to break their spirit. That's why I resigned last year, I couldn't take any more of a supervisor constantly harassing me only because I was a thin reasonably nice looking female and people liked me. She seriously wrote me up when I called in because my daughter had a seizure at school. Denied pre approved leave. Screamed at me because she didn't like my jeans. Yes I do regret that I allowed her the power over me to the point of resigning from a $25 an hour job but she broke me and I don't break easy. ( oooops sorry for my ramble). Just an FYI I am not the only 1 who has resigned in the last few years because of this very thing.
Last but not least... It's Christmas time, please have patience, they are doing the best that they can with what they have.
