I had about 4 packs of cigarettes left from a carton that had been sitting in a drawer for the last 60 days - finally tossed them out the other day.

For me, the first 30 days were iffy at times. Thoughts would drift in and out about smoking one. But the thoughts were not strong ones, so I let them pass.

The e-cig I have and the liquid I have totally satisfy me. So I think the thoughts are natural after-effects from a long term habit.

I had smoked in my home office room and once in a while when I open a drawer that hasn't been opened since quit day, I get the stinkys drifting out of it.

I too tend to stand back from smokers now. Fuuny how that was me just 60 days ago.

As soon as I got set up to vape, I "drew a line in the sand": I now had the nic, the "smoke", and the all-important physical process of smoking. There was officially no more excuse to smoke.

I have to admit, I got addicted to purchasing, and this forum. Both were crucial tools for me. Thanks forum! The stories you told me, and the endless obsessing over models, suppliers and juice, and the enthusiasm here on ecf was a great help to me in quitting. I'm now past 3 months, and I doubt that I'll ever touch another analog ever again.

I also got my brother, my mom, my girlfriend, and several friends to quit analogs for PVs. Time and money well spent. You guys rule.

The other way I look at it guys, I SWEAR on this I swear that we were addicted to a ton of chemicals in those things. We were addicted to more than just nicotine, that's why we would still crave one at first. I KNOW I NOW have all those chemicals out of my body after 2 months now and that is why my craving has finally gone away totally for one. So my point is, just by giving into 1 or 2 ciggys and putting those chemicals back in your body, can make you continue to crave one again. So I just DON'T do it. That's my thoughts anyhow....
I agree, I think there's more to it than just the nicotine; that there's something else in cigs that we're addicted to. I still havent been able to fully quit smoking; I had been down to 3 a day, then for a few days was back up to a pack, then I got back down to 1/4 of a pack. Yesterday I had a 1/2 pack . I have gotten to the point, though, that other people's cigarettes stink, except for a couple of brands. Marlboro and a couple of other brands still smell really enticing. That makes me think there is something else in cigs, otherwise one would think that they'd all stink to me.

Dave, 2 drags in 73 days! That is awsome. I hope I can make it that far.

IMHO, I believe it's 30% physical, and 70% mental. I just keep telling myself "I'm gonna make this work".

Here's another thing I think about. If it wern't for this forum, I don't think I'd make it 100%. The support here is wonderful, and has a enormous part in staying with the e-cig.

There is the conspiracy theory that something is addicting us to cigarettes. There is also the theory that to some people cigarettes just taste great. It's like eating potato chips, which I know make me gain weight; yet I love them and sometimes don't resist. It's not the chemicals in chips. It is just simply the taste and crunch of them. I eat them despite their bad effect on my body.

You could look at it this way..

Would you rather be a smoker who occasionally vapes or a vaper who occasionally smokes?

If nothing else you've proved to yourself that you prefer vaping over smoking.. that's a good thing :)

That is a very positive outlook and one that I live by. I did smoke for a couple of days when I ran out of juice due to a supplier delay in shipping. I've learned my lesson and I'm all stocked up for months now. I admit I might do it again if for some reason I couldn't vape. Before doing that again I would try vaping a DIY mix of no nic juice and seeing if I could get by.

That said, I still find that every now and then I miss the old ciggies. For me I think it's more of a mental thing. Like an old flame that I never want to light up again. :?:

Secondhand smoke smells REALLY GOOD to me.
Growing up, neither of my parents smoked... but 3 out of 4 of my grandparents did (and it killed those 3). I've *always* really liked the smell of second hand smoke. Even as a smoker.

I expect I will still enjoy the smell of analog smoke even after I get my first e-cig (still waiting for my order to arrive).. you know what they say about smells and nostalgia/memories. Powerful stuff.

And Raoul, I definitely agree with this:

if you are smoking less now since you started vaping...to me that is awesome
So don't sweat the petty things, just pet the sweaty things. :D

I totally agree it's a very large part "mental" .... at NO time did I say I'm going to quit smoking .. nope, nope, ain't a gonna happen ... been there, done that, got the T shirt ... have ZERO desire to do it again .... so ..instead, I have CHANGED the way I get my nicotine ... it's just a matter of choice (for me) .. reaching the same end... personally, I much prefer the extremely pleasant taste, feel, of say, peach, or banana, or ry4, or .. the list is near endless ....or .. would I rather light a cigarette and deal with all that goes with it ... always good to have options :) Today.... I opt for my peach ;)

Man, (as many I suspect) I did not buy this thing to quite smoking and I am down to 3 or 4 analogs a day as a side effect.

A great way to quite smoking with no pressure. These things actually make you not want to smoke. I don't kick myself for having an occasional analog, I just figure 3 or 4 is better than 30 or 40 (for now). Yes, I kind of find myself getting down on myself (why did I smoke that). I really think it just reminds me that I don't like smoking. Sometimes I start to get sick and put it out after a few drags.

That is the problem with most methods of quitting smoking. Opps I had a drag or 1 analog, now I failed. Once you fail you give in and just start smoking again.

Saying I quit and can NEVER have one again is the problem. You always seem to want what you can't have. I just keep reminding myself well it is a lot better than the 30 I would have had and then get back to vaping.

2 drags in 73 days, That is something to be proud of not down on yourself over. I don't mind that I get a little down on myself (find it a healthy and intuitive reaction to quitting), but I don't ever consider it any sort of failure (which I find unhealthy and counter-intuitive reaction to quitting analogs).

In the future I imagine I will cut down on vaping and then just use it if I get the urge for an analog, but that is the great thing quitting analogs is happening without any pressure when I did not even set out to quite. If I do end up having an occasional social analog, oh well, I just think of all the ones I did not have...

This is what makes it so annoying that the FDA is banning them, the bad publicity, etc. I really think these things are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

My mindset is right there with you. I didn't start on e-cigs to quit anything, just to switch to something that doesn't have all the health risks of tobacco. I don't consider switching to e-cigs an accomplishment, just a different way of living with my nicotine addiction. It's okay to have a drag of an analog, doesn't matter a whit.

I had a full analog on Saturday after over two weeks without one. To my surprise I like the e-cig better now. I still get the occasional craving for an analog, but a couple drags on my 901 handles that easily.

I still consider analogs my backup. If I run out of juice, my battery dies without a spare, something breaks, I'll just hit the corner store and buy a pack of analogs until I can get set up again. Hopefully the corner stores will start selling e-cigs and/or supplies soon...

I've been smoke free for nearly 5 months now, I was on about 20 roll ups a day, and a smoker for 35 years, but I do still get that urge when I'm with someone who is smoking, I haven't given into temptation, because I think if I do, I will return to having the 'occasional one', anyway the urge does eventually pass. So willpower is still needed in my case, I don't know if it will ever pass, if I'm on my own it's not a problem, but I know deep down if I didn't have my ecig I would return to smoking, the only thing that might dissuade me from doing it would be the lingering stale smell around the house, and on my clothes, the staining and that morning cough which I no longer have. These are the things I have to think about when i get that 'urge' !

What you are doing and few other folks is brilliant. You are basically removing the pressure of quitting. It is almost like changing a brand. There is another thread somewhere about how it may not be the nicotine craving that is being satisfied by vaping, and yet, people are able to quit with PVs. I am beginning to think that perhaps PVs work because many people think of this more as switching, not quitting.

I haven't had analog for few weeks now, but unfortunately I still love the smell of analogs and I think it will take a long time before I stop liking it. I also like smokers as people -- maybe it is the shared vice or shared ritual or experience of smoking, I don't know. But I am getting to like vapers now too.

I have been vaping since my signature says I have and that first weekend, after 2 days, I smoked one of the Kools I had left over in my car just in case it died on me and I gagged, hardcore. So ever since then I haven't wanted to touch another but I have be having this problem lately... I have been curious as to how they taste now, I don't miss Kool cigs I just want to puff on one but I have been holding myself back. I just don't know if I should or not.

i had to smoke today due to liquid order being delayed. i was upset at first but then i cut mysef some slack "newbie learning curve' . i like that i'm really looking forward to my juice. i never looked forward to my next box of patches. i'm saying smoking alternitive and giving my self all time i need to decrease nic. slow and steady does win races: and if first you don't succeed try try again
