Pffft. Young ones. I went to college in the “hazy” years. Lol. I saw REO Speedwagon at Western IL when Terry Lutrell was the lead singer, BEFORE Kevin Cronin. Beat that....1971. 1970-1974 was a very interesting time in my life. Don’t remember a lot, but I had a blast.Your older than me then..
I was at the big riot when guns and roses opened for metallica.. it was so bad (not metallica they were awesome.. it was the whole riot thing and of course the first mosh pit ever) I never went to another concert again until my kids wanted to go and needed escort for their safety..
Sigh.. I bet the who was much more laid back.. lol.
It was cool again by the time the kids were going - all the parents my age were taking their kids so i never felt weird going. And of course by then the mosh pits were organised..
You're a bit older, too, I guess. I saw Iron Butterfly in 1970 at MRF, but I had to go with a chaperone...Pffft. Young ones. I went to college in the “hazy” years. Lol. It is tedious, clicking these damn things, over and over. How about if I like it well enough to respond to it, consider it liked, and rated thumbs up?The choice is yours alone. Honestly i don't know if many bother to check their list, then there are many who turn off their notifications completely. Please don't feel bad about it, no one will take offence.
Cronin joined them in mid 72 I think. I was very lucky. I went to a small college in Rock Island, IL. In the early 70’s many of the biggest bands of the day played at Western, Northern, and University of Illinois, which were driving distance. Although the driving was a tad sketchy on the way home. You're a bit older, too, I guess. I saw Iron Butterfly in 1970 at MRF, but I had to go with a chaperone...I only knew of REO when KSHE in STL picked them up probably 73 or 74. Back when radio was actually a thing.
Yep. We had the Mississippi River Festival at SIUE. $2.00 Lawn seats for the big acts. Saw Chigago, BB KIng, Yes, ELO, ELP, Wishbone Ash, Utopia, many more, all for "lawn mower" money! In the early 70’s many of the biggest bands of the day played at Western, Northern, and University of Illinois
LMAOImagine that, a bunch of folks that grew up in the 60's & 70's getting side track, what was this thread about?
We somehow made it down there once. I can’t remember if it was BTO, Uriah Heep, or Foghat. LolSIU Carbondale is just a short drive for me. We'd listen from outside or occasionally sneak in. Only paid for a few concerts.
@ilporcupine Radio is still a thing for me.
Still is.I liked radio.. it was cool.
I was born in Northern IL and still miss the stations up there. The pickings are pretty slim down here if you don't care for country. I'd never heard country music until we moved here. Really miss those days.We had the big battle of WLS and WCFL. Ah, memories.
Still is.
I've turned into a yt music junkie at home and work. The radio in a car for me is the absolute berries and the only way to drive. If you can get it..
We can't get any reception outside the one local station we have. It's nice for county talk radio every Friday.. but since it's the only station we can get here, I listen online - we don't own a radio.
The radio in the car if we are in a good spot or have the right weather will get the pikeville ky. radio station which is a good one, but we can't get it all the time..
And. We can't afford satellite radio.
Yeah, I've been thru there(loved camping in the Shawnee Forest. Went real early in the year, before the shower houses were even open, but the weather was warm and nice. Ended up raining all day every day. Kept going further and further south trying to outrun the front. Ended up our last 2 days in Southern MO, after hitting Land betwen the Lakes.SIU Carbondale is just a short drive for me. We'd listen from outside or occasionally sneak in. We do have many beautiful places here. I can drive 15 minutes in any direction and immerse myself in nature.Yeah, I've been thru there(loved camping in the Shawnee Forest.
