So, get off the interstate now and again...There are also many lovely quaint little towns, and lotsa friendly people to meet. They could use a boost from patronage in these places... :) Not meaning to lecture, sounded kinda like that...I am down here, myself.:D
Where?

Have you seen the corn palace, though?

It will a-maize you! :) (From one of it's many, many billboards.) I went past it on my honeymoon (lots a lots a nothing as we traveled through wherever.) So, it was rather astounding compared to corn fields. Also where I found a "Weekly World news" felt that we needed some reading material. The closest I seemed to be able to get, at certain truck stops, was a "(censored) Letters" magazine but we had the dog and the kid with us, I didn't consider it "appropriate" as it were, but the WWN kind of took us all the way through Iowa, or someplace like that.

Did you know Iowa had :"ski slopes?" LOL, neither did I. Man, such a great honeymoon (2 weeks camping and in the SUV with an overexcited 5 year old and a very active dog.:lol:

Good times. LOL.

My favorite vacations were always ones where we had only an idea of a destination, and plenty of goofing around time! We always liked the option of pulling off higway and going on little 'adventures' without trying to keep a schedule. I really miss that.

Rescue dogs. Lol. Lucy the black one is perfect. Timmy, with the ball, has mental problems. Terrified of everything. Severely abused. Dumped on the streets of Waukegan, I’ll. Roamed the streets for weeks before being picked up. He loves us and Lucy dearly. Scared of everything else. If he’s in a room when I take my belt off when undressing he runs in a corner. We’ve had him 3 years, and he still ducks every time we pet him.

We had a dog like that, Bear. He was abused before we adopted him. He had no clue whatsoever that he was a German Shepherd...unless you went near my kid, then his instincts kicked in. He spent the first few years with us with his head under a chair or under a bed. He didn't like turning around in tight spaces so if he was on the stairs or walked into the bathroom, he'd back out. Even if he was just a step or two from the bottom of the stairs, he'd back up them. He'd have made a Youtube sensation. He eventually became pretty social and like to party. Easiest pet in the world to take car of. He didn't like the rain and wouldn't go out in it. He once held it in for 2 and 1/2 days because he wouldn't go out in the rain. He only pooped in the gardens so we never had to clean up after him. If he got out, you could just watch him say hello to everyone.

I would but I am just Chicago enough that when I get past Joliet, I start hearing the theme from Deliverance in my head and lock the doors not wanting to be the next Ned Beatty. I'll have to overcome my fears.

You get the luck of the draw with rescues. But that’s the only animals I want.

Agreed! Our current dog is a fluke of the adoption world. A GSD with papers. Father was a double grand champion and his mother was a grand champion. He's smarter than lots of people I know. I'm just glad his feet can't reach the car pedals or I'm sure he'd take out joy riding picking up girls.

I noticed that I was getting alerts on post updates. It did not dawn on me at first, that people were liking and/or rating everything. I was not doing that, and I would hate for anyone to think I was deliberately neglecting them, or disinterested!
I can only offer in my defense, that I do not do Social Media, per se, and I am not aquainted with this type of protocol. The other special interest forums I do use, do not have this type of system. (I started on email lists and Newsreaders)
So, I will try to remember to do this in future, and if I lapse it is only because I am old, and I forget stuff. (As in everything...) If I forget, and don't catch myself, feel free to kick my .....
I use like as bookmarks. So I can find my way if I get lost in a thread. Like bread crumbs.

I've always had German Shepherd dogs and I always will. I've become fairly active with Schutzhund training over the years....it's just amazing what these dogs can do.
But.....I'll always open my home to a puppy in need of loving humans.

Meet Riley the rescue....
