I'm having surgery in Feb. I need to quit nicotine...not just vap...but to have zero nicotine. The doctor will check my nicotine levels prior to surgery. I can't seem to stop smoking analogs.

At first I did fine ( about three weeks), then one day I decided to try a real cigarette (analog)...you know what happened. I've bought a carton and have puffed my way through those.

I'm trying vaping again and so far, I'm not having much luck. I need to get down to zero by Feb...is there anybody who has any ideas? I like vaping but what can I tell myself to get this done? I will have to start dropping my nicotine levels pretty fast in order to get to zero by Feb.

Please anybody have any ideas?

Thanks so much in advance,
Betty

Hi Betty! Did some research on Google about nicotine in the system.
Nicotine (from smoking) can stay in your system anywhere from a few days to several months, depending on how much, often you smoke.

Drinking lots of water and increasing intake of Vit. C will help to flush out nicotine from your system., but not if you continue smoking.

Nicotine detection is dependent upon which test will be used - urine, blood or hair analysis. Urine analysis is the least sophisticated of testing, blood will detect smaller amounts of nicotine, and hair analysis will detect even smaller amounts over a longer period of time.

But smoking is different from vaping. I can't remember how much nicotine you get from vaping - it's here on the forum somewhere.

So, it seems you need to quit smoking. Maybe up your nic strength to compensate for smoking. After 2 weeks, drop nic strength say 24mg to 18mg, next 2 weeks 18mg to 13mg, 13mg and so on.

Don't know what else to tell you. Hopefully, others will comment and you'll have more ideas.

Sounds like a manipulative doc to me. Yes smoking can cause problems with surgery in many ways but most ask that you quit a few days out not months! Unless you are overweight, have high/low blood pressure or have heart problems or in very poor health anyway I would vape and reduce nic in the last week and none for a day or two up to surgery and let him test away unless he has refused to do surgery if he detects nic in your system. If that is the case get a second opinion.

Its so hard to make any recommendations related to not knowing your current health status. I would agree to up your nicotine at first to get off the analogs. Try 24-36mg. Then you can titrate yourself down in increments such as 36 30 24 and so on. I also have had a problem with those last two analogs. I am down to one. During thanksgiving I ordered a LR mega atomizer from Good Prophets to place on my 900 ego battery. It does replicate the actual act of smoking an analog. However, I cannot recomend this due to its ability to shorten the life of a battery. For me it is well worth the half life of a battery so I can finally control the analog monster. One does go thru twice the amount of nicotine fluid as well. However, if your serious about getting off the analogs it might help...I don't know your current vaping apparatus so I am just throwing some thoughts out for you.

I have a friend who is fighting epiglottis stage four cancer...

What kind of equipment are you using? I was using an eGo with standard equipment and had a hard time giving up the last few cigarettes a day. Then I got a 5V passthrough and LR atomizers/carts, and I gave them up no problem. I have since gone back to standard atomizers, but within about a month after that I was off nicotine entirely (I am hoping within the next couple of months to be off vaping entirely, too).

In any case, it may be that you need something that goes beyond a strictly nicotine addition, and it may be that the higher voltage passthrough or replication with a LR atomizer may provide the extra 'oomph' you need to get off cigarettes and nicotine.

I think your dr is concerned about smoking rather than nicotine, but testing for nicotine is his way to confirm that u quit. So talk to him, tell him about vaping and see what he says. I think u can vape any strength u like, but u need to quit cigs.
patch or gum will result in a +ve test. can't imagine that will be a reason not to do surgery.

Hey Betty - Seems you've gotten some really good suggestions from great members.
Quitting smoking is hard, but vaping and then stopping to resume smoking and then quitting to resume vaping is even harder I think.
I've been vaping for about a year now. Started with 24mg and Dekang juice. Was down to 8mg of nic juice. Quit vaping and started smoking again. Decided to quit and resume vaping full time. What a PITA!:) Nothing was working to curb the smoking.

I had to retrace my vaping habits to what it was that got me to quit smoking. Went back to Dekang juice at 24mg and 30mg nic and upped my H2O. The 1st week, smoked half a pack. 2nd week about the same. 3rd week 1-2 cigs. After a month and a half, I'm smoking about 1-2 cigs every 2 weeks - give or take. Vaping between 24mg to 20mg nic.

Granted, it is not the fastest way to quit - but it might be worth a try. Figure out what got you to quit smoking - then re-do those steps. Best wishes for your success.

I had a similar issue arise needed a spinal fusion. Neither doctor or Insurance would do surgery with out completely quitting smoking (blood test). From what I take smoking and nicotine prohibits bone growth and therefore the fusion may not take. My solution cold turkey just think about the surgery maybe vape a lot of 0%. Sucks I know but possible I lasted two years.

Nicotine can ...... calcium absorption and bone growth as well as act as a vaso-constrictor. Some Doctors want you off nicotine completely because of the issues related to healing and possibly it's effect on drug interactions.

Other want you to quit SMOKING because of effect on lung capacity. Smokers have a higher chance of post surgery pneumonia.

Another way to cut down for a couple months would be to vape no nic for most of the day as much as you want and have some juice on hand with nic to reach for when you really feel the need. I'm quite a heavy vaper and towards the end of the day I start vaping no nic because I don't want to have more nic in my system than I need.

hi bboop,

we all know health is utmost,

all the posts are really good ideas!
you have to do something? right?
1 day @ a time!

just a suggestion,

go 0% nicotine + vape like normal,

try w/ menthol/mint / cinnamon
,(read its good for lowering nic level?)

or what ever feels good on the" throat hit" part?
your favorite juice maybe?
ask your vendor too, they got all sorts of tricks !! lol

on another note, true story,
years ago, my mom+wife(both heavy smokers @ the time),
had the same female doctor! and everytime they had an appointment(s),
(seperate of course!) this doc ripped em new 1s on quitting smoking!!

she was mean, cold, harsh, disgusted and hell bent on smokers period.
(she made them cry,not an easy task! these 2 woman ,mom+wife are made of rock, steel +some diamond material ) lol

well needless to say, tact or not,i could agree w/ her,
(seeing people needlessly suffering greatly,@ the stupidity of ones self,(self inflicted)with so much other crap going on......
devastated friends, family etc.... old smokers are a burden+do not go out gracefully!
my dad was a perfect example and another long winded story, for another time!
bless his heart!)

quote from sdh "I have a friend who is fighting epiglottis stage four cancer... "

weird as it sounds she cared enuff to ..... about something that was important to all of us period. we hear it ,see it , live it... thank goodness we now have a real chance to fight it w/ these ecigs!!!

my heart goes out to each+every 1 who has to deal with all the addictions in life!
because life is suffering at any age, worse when older true!

this forum we belong to (which im new here +very fond of already!)
has a remarkable support system,US!
each +every 1 of US, is either an addict in 1 way or another!

so lets lean on,listen+learn from 1 another , we will get our strenghs ,thru
posts+threads, remarks,connections+ so-on!

i wish you the very best, and im not alone,
my personal goal is to quit completely 1 day !
this is my start @ my life w/ hopefully 1 less addiction?

thx for letting me rant....

thank-you ecf
thank-you inventor of ecig

V.I.

ps. i didnt quite get the ecig eq. thing either?
