Well, at least that is what I tell myself. I have been vaping for about a month now. My first kit was an njoy and I quickly moved to a 510 unit. I will someday move up to a big mod, but for now I am very happy.

The point of this post is, that I haven't quit smoking. I go days without an analog and the eCig is even more satisfying than an actual cigarette is, to me at least. But I haven't quit smoking. Every once in a while, I will bum a cig off a buddy just to prove this fact.

The way I manipulate my thoughts in my head and come to the conclusion that I haven't quit smoking is even more of an esteem boost than saying "I quit smoking". I just don't want to smoke anymore or feel the need. Telling myself "I QUIT SMOKING" says that I can't have a cigarette anymore, and it makes me want one. I don't want to be able to not want one. I wan't to be able to do whatever I want! The eCigs are just a better way for me to get what I want.

I haven't quit smoking... I just smoke about 200 less cigarettes a week than I used to!

All in all, I have only smoked about two packs worth of cigarettes since I started vaping. One pack was during a day without my PV. And about 1/2 of the other pack was just to prove a point to the "naysayers" that I haven't quit smoking, I just don't want to...

Hopefully someone with the same mental hurdle will be able to read this and use this tool to help them through the process...

Congrats!

I think you'll find many of us here never intended to quit smoking. I know I certainly didn't. When my first PV starter kit arrived, it just so happened to coincide with finishing the last pack of analogs from the last carton. And then I just ... didn't buy any more analogs. It wasn't a case of, "Oh, I've quit smoking." It was more like, there's just no reason to buy analogs anymore.

Since 1/11, I've bummed one puff off of a friend's analog and just flat out hated it. It took quite a bit of vaping to get the taste out of my mouth :)

I went through the exact same process. I smoked less than a pack in my first month but wasn't quitting. i found myself at one point realising i hadnt had an analog for a whole day, so was like "hmm let's see if I can go another", the next day was harder but i managed it, by day 3 I was like "am I really quitting? hmm yeah I guess I am". What a big mistake that turned out to be...........by tea time I was pulling my hair out! well what's left of it any ways lol. During the eveing I caved and proved myself right..........I CANT TELL MYSELF I'M QUITTING! it always drove me nuts in the past, why any different now? After a few days back on analogs I came here and asked advice etc.....I re-assessed the situation, made some tweaks to my vaping and without saying it I haven't had an analog since. Right here right now i am so confident that I will say out loud "I have quit smoking!" no panic attack, no hair pulling, just calm and collected. In 3 weeks I haven't even though about an analog, let alone gone near them. I always worked on the philosophy of keeping some around when quitting, just to keep my mind at ease. I had 25g of tobacco sat on the window ledge for 2 weeks, never went near it. then one day the girlfriend asked about it and i said "you smoke it or throw it away", just like that.

I really hope you can find a way to deal with it in your head, even if it means you telling yourself your not quitting! But look at it from another angle............If you've dramatically reduced your analog habit then you're already winning :)

Shadoza ... I want to quit because I have noticed health issues and don't want to wait until it is too late. There have been three people I work with that have had "smoking related" issues in the past four years and all we have since buried. My issue is I LIKE smoking. My tag says 15 days ... but there have been a few smokes in there, guess I should update it. But I have read posts here how everyone hate the taste and smell of cigs. I thought hey let me try one and see ... but it was WONDERFUL ... I like smoking ... I like vaping better but there is still something about a cig that is oh so good. So, as I posted before I have to be aware that I don't want to smoke and maybe someday it'll be I dont want one. The important thing is you are smoking less and got to be feeling better about it. I know I do and can see and feel the difference getting away from them does for me.

dang, all these good comments... I can't wait for my first ecig system to come in the mail.

You will love it! For all intents and purposes, I have quit smoking for the most part. I just say I haven't because it makes it easier on me. When I say "I QUIT" it makes me want one. Instead I vape and just "Don't Need One". Like, today I had a cigarette with a friend and it was my first one since Thursday! It is also great to be able to say, "I didn't give up smoking - I just don't want one", to all the old smokers I used to hang out with That really pisses them off!

Edit: Moved quotation mark!

I definitely get what you're saying Shadoza! I can't remember how many times I have cut back on smoking but as soon as I declare that I quit, I start to freak out. The point is(IMO) that we can choose to smoke, or vape, or neither. That's the kind of freedom I want.

On a side note I just ordered my first kit. Thanks to all the people on this forum I feel like I got some great info and hopefully a much healthier way to enjoy nicotine.

Before I started vaping in April of 2009, I was smoking a pack of American Spirit Mediums a day. When I started vaping I immediately cut that down to two cigs a day...one when I got up to kick start the day and one after dinner. I did this all the way up until a month ago when I finally gave up those two cigarettes.

Everybody is on there own schedule, so never beat yourself up because you read about all the people that quit completely the day they got their e-cig. Always think about how many cigarettes you're not smoking compared to what you used to.

The funny thing is though... It used to be a big deal if I went without a cig for a day or two and when folks said "awsome" and "good job" it meant a lot more. This time around now I have my PV, it's not such a big deal because it really wasn't that hard, the big deal is how much better I feel in every way. The big deal is that there is a alternative to smoking that doesn't make me want to murder everyone around me.

I'm in the same boat as most here that are still smoking, although less. What helped me was me finally finding a section here that said that vaping will never be like smoking. It's a replacement for me but the changeover is still taking time. As bad as it is, there's something about what's coming out of a cig that draws me back to have one. Can't explain it, just know that it exists. I'm still trying and won't stop trying. It is difficult though. Who knows, maybe I don't have good willpower.

It has been a gradual thing for me too. Unfortunately some of that has been pouring money into worthless ecigs, but that aside I just slowly got to the point that I lost all desire for cigs. I really didn't conciously say "I quit smoking today", but cut down over time when I finally got good devices. Now, it's been about a month since my last analog. I have no desire anymore to smoke. I get everything I need from vaping!!! Best part, I get my nic fix whenever I want for the most part. I don't have to wait for a break anymore, don't have to stand in the cold, don't need gum to hide my breath. I can sneak vapor at work (can't really do it out in the open) and don't get those "looks" from all the nonsmokers!

Now I get to be one of those self righteous non smokers that I used to hate so much :)
