The e-cig... Spent 100$ on it, you have no idea how much I was looking forward to it... Finally got it 2 days ago and I have to accept it, it sucks. I'm feeling really depressed, not only from wasting a lot of time and money, but because my "dream" of enjoying a smoke without all the nasty effects is just that - a dream. I guess vaping is not for me. I love everything about it, but the thing is: it irritates my throat like crazy. I haven't even vapped today because my throat is messed up. And it makes me cough up phlegm that I didn't have before. I don't have the patience and money to order 500 different liquids to find one that doesn't burn my throat. Shouldn't have got my hopes up...

Thanks y'all for the replies. Let me add a few things:
- I bought a Smoke Stik
- I am using 18 MG "Marlboro" juice from www.anycig.com
- I don't think the phlegm I'm having is my lungs coughing up crap because (I know it's unusual) I didn't use the e-cig to stop smoking, I actually wanted to smoke more. Let me explain: I used to smoke a pack a week but I knew it was bad, and I'm a MMA fighter so I couldn't afford messing up my cardio. So I decided I would only have 1 cig a week, just because I didn't wanna quit completely (since I love smoking tobacco so much). I wanted to go back to the amount of 4-5 cigs a day with the e-cig, but it's irritating my throat so yeah...

I wouldn't say Your totally screwed on the money You spent. Depending on what You got, You could post it for sale in the classifieds.

Sorry to hear about your experience with vaping.

You mentioned not having patience or money, sadly without those (patience more so) You'd have a hard time continuing to vape. My Mom was in the same boat, I got her into vaping, got her to buy some supplies, after spending about $300 she didn't stick with it for more than a week. I tried letting her use some of my devices to see if she liked them better, no go.

It wouldn't hurt to go into detail about what products You bought, bad choices of gear can be a real buzz killer. Maybe You could sell or trade for something You may like a little better, to avoid sinking yourself in debt over it.

Before you give up, go to the store and get some glycerin and some vanilla flavoring. Mix them at something like 80% / 20% glycerin/vanilla, and try vaping that. Of course it has no nicotine, but if that doesn't irritate your throat, you know you just need to stick to VG (Vegetable Glycerin) based liquids instead of PG based liquids.

If all else fails, you should try snus, snuff, or dissolvables to get your tobacco/nic fix instead of smoking.

Good luck!

I didn't have the sore throat thing but hubby did, very very bad, but now not at all... all he did was change to VG juice. It wasn't the device at all.

Give it another try with some VG juice, or if you are where you can get some food grade vegetable glycerin locally, might be cheaper to just get a bottle of that and try some, even without flavor to see if you have the same reaction, if not, then get some flavoring for it, that's what we did.

OK.... a couple of things.

Vapor is NOT smoke. There are thousands of additives in cigarettes that make the smoke smoother and less irritating to the throat - vapor is dryer, and doesn't have the additives. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated, and take small mouthfuls of vape, instead of directly inhaling into your lungs.

The sore throat WILL pass as you get used to the vape.

And the phlegm? If you've completely replaced analogs with vape, then what the phlegm is is your lungs FINALLY being able to work to start cleaning out all the crap you've inhaled along with the smoke for the length of time you've been smoking. And that will pass as well.

Don't give it up. Vaping is a journey, and you'll find yourself amazed at how you'll feel if you just hang in there.

I've been vaping for over a year, now.........and I didn't think I'd get past the first month, either.

yep the sore throat only last a few days, same as when you first started smoking pretty much. I tried a few different liquids as I did type/brands of cigarettes till i found one I liked. I will leave you with one hint on the juice site that just might do it for you, tastyvapor they rock. Try using a cart mod also, IMO the polly fill sucks. good luck and hope you dont give up to soon and as for a good ecig try out the screwdriver, I love mind and wouldnt have been able to kick the real deal without it...

I kind of know the feeling... spent $240 between my wife and I for a his/hers kit + a bottle of juice, and we were sorely depressed. We chalked it up as a learning experience, did more research, ordered something else, and are very very happy now. There is alot to choose from, true, but it is worth it when you find the one that works best for you.

Bis Thier:

Please dont quit so fast! You need to at least tell us which product, how much nic, pg vs. vg etc. You have already invested so much, let's see if maybe we can spot what the problem is and maybe give you some tips that will help.
Not smoking analogs is the BEST thing you can do, so please don't give up on that part!
There are answers, please give the Forum folk a chance to help!

Sore throat when I started: Check
Cough with Phlegm: Check
Cold: Check
Exhaustion: Check
About 2-3 weeks after starting
Sore throat: Nuh uh
Cough w/phlegm: Less
Cold: Nuh uh
Exhaustion: Slightly Less
6 weeks
ST: Nuh Uh
Cough w/wo phlegm: NUH UH Yay!
Cold: Nuh Uh
Exhaustion: No comment---dx'd with anemia can't say any of the exhaustion was e-cig related for sure
Breathe better: Oh YEAH!!!
Feel better: Oh Yeah!!!
Inhaler use: Not anymore!!!
Wheezing: GONE!
Analogue craving: Almost never
OVER 2 months into vaping
ALL good things even more, all negatives: GONE!!!! Unless you happen to be experiencing PG allergy I'd say this is pretty normal. There were two days within my first 2 weeks that I didn't vape for about 8 hours of the day because I felt so bad and my throat was so sore. I pushed through it and I am glad I did. Wouldn't trade this for the analogue habit again For 500,000 dollars! I hope you don't give it up yet and you can figure out what you need to do for YOU in order to continue. Good luck and I promise, this is so worth it!

SmokeStick Have no idea, use a 510 and an eGo
18mg nic Yup that is your culprit right there! (makes me hack like crazy...am fine on 9 and 11 mg/nic: i was smoking .5 to 1 ppd before vaping, still steal an analog now and then, but cant inhale it)
BT, please try cutting back your nic for a while and if you are using PG, switch over to VG or at least a PG/VG mix
Dont give up on vaping yet!
I hope someone who is familiar with a SmokeStick will chime in!
Best of luck, no matter what!

PS VG is available at WallyWorld

Yeah, Wal-ma$$ and it is found in most in the area where they have calmine lotion, neosporin, bandages and such...It's labled use there is skin protectant. (which it can be) It is not true VG, but it is sufficient enough to get you away from the PG until you know and then you can get VG food grade glycerin from other suppliers or healthfood stores near you. It is Humco brand at WM.
Wal-gree*$ also has some glycerin

Good Luck!!!

PS: We can share and share, but IF you truly don't want to vape anymore, nothing is gonna be able to "fix"/undo that except YOU! Wish you all the best.

Yeah, you were a very light smoker - 18mg is definitely too high. Try the glycerin from Walmart (clear bottle, near the band-aids) if that works better make sure to get only VG liquid that's between 6mg-12mg from now on.

Or, you could also just vape 0mg (no nic) liquid and try using snus for whenever you feel you need a tobacco/nic fix.

Yeah only smoking one cigarette a week, you need a lower level of juice buy some vegetable glycerin at drug store mix some in w/juice and then try. Almost everyone that does or does not smoke, coughs the first few times. GL Hope this helps!! btw these take some getting used to for sure, I have been vaping for 6 months and I still have off days w/these things.

I smoked a pack of ultra lights a week and Im on 12mg nic; I'd also say 18mg would be too high for a very casual smoker.
Also: Sore thraot - check god I could hardly swallow for about 2 days - drank what seemed like an ocean, took cough drops, drank warm drinks - my throat almost felt closed up. It passed. Now I never get it.
Skin - oh so dry!
Eyes - eeep!
All gone now - I had dry eyes to start with so having DRIER eyes was not fun - luckily I had eye drops in the house :)
I do still have the phlegm -always had phelgm since i can remember. I also have a bit of a cold/allergies right now but I think vaping plays its part in phlegm, but its not awful and its not accompanied by chest pain like when I smoked, its all 'in the throat'.
Tiredness - yeah I had that in spades.Actually made me wonder what the heck they DO put in cigs to perk us up so darn much  Its much more normal now; I used coffee to substitute for whatever I wasn't getting.
A good unit and good juice makes all the difference.
Btw Im not allergic to either PG or VG and vape usually a mix of both.
Good luck in your journey I hope you don't give up but if you do, I hope you come back to us soon and try again :)
