That's too bad. One of the things I have appreciated about fasttech is the product images and reviews, they really help in picking a product that will work for you.
I have bought five atomizers from fasttech, and each one has worked very well. I'm sorry you got a lemon, with a properly sealing topcap closed off airflow results in higher air velocity at the coil assuming your driptip has a wider bore than the airflow inlet.

Look at a Aeolus v1 or v2, it can be built as a single coil, mine never leaks. The v2 on a short tube mod is very small also.

I use an SV rda clone from fasttech. Then I use a silicone slip ring to control leaking in my pocket. The slip ring is 22 millimeters by 12 millimeters. It's also available from FastTech. When the slip ring is covering the air supply there is no leaking
