I have an old pipe sitting somewhere - if I only know how - i would attempt to make one too - but with my luck I will be the first person with an epipe blowing up in his face - someone else I think already has fame to an e cig/mod that blew up in his face....

I had some old pipes laying around but none of the tobacco chambers were big enough for the battery and electronics.

I just want to try to make it. I am doing OK with re-wicking and re-coiling. DIY so far is a total fail - am waiting on some new flavors which I think with the help of folks here may allow me to make something decent. I rally would like to make a mod - and an epipe is what I was looking to purchase next. My problem is - i need detailed instructions - on where to buy, what to buy and how to assemble........I had a good friend that is very handy and am sure he could help me - sadly we parted ways over some stupid crap last year......

I just searched youtube for vids on how to make a tobacco pipe. There are quite a few out there i just watched all of them that i could and got an idea of the process to take. The auto switch i used came from madvapes for $4. Like i said i used a 2x4 for wood because i had some laying around. I messed up a lot getting the initial cuts and shape down everytime i messed up i started over. Traditonally shaping is done in different ways. Some use lathes some use rasps or belt sanders i used a dremel tool with a sanding pad and then a lot of hand sanding. Battery chamber is 13/16 and the mortise or shank hole is 11/32 for a snug fit of the auto switch. Research and do it! Thats always been my motto. Get informed and dont be afraid to try.

Thanks - I will search the tube and see what I can find. Did you also find what parts to order and how to connect it all on youtube?

no on youtube i found out how to make a tobacco pipe. Electronics i did myself. Like I said the auto switch I ordered from madvapes- 510 Auto Switch the battery also came from madvapes- IMR 18350, LiMn 800mAh Battery .the battery springs i took out of a remote control and for the wiring i used some twisted pair from an ethernet cable. I like using those wires for mods because they are small but can move a lot of current. I also have easy access to ethernet cables because I work in the communication industry. Connecting is just know how and experience but its really as simple as soldering the + to + and - to -

A good place to start with modding imo is building passthrus. Find and old usb cord buy some 510 connectors, some simple switches and get a soldering iron and go to town. Triple aaa battery flashlight mods are also a good way to start. There is plenty of vids on youtube for building those and once you get the jist of it its really pretty simple.

Very nice job man. Good addition to any collection. I purchased an e-pipe from Vapercon 2011 and now the wife exclusively uses it. I have been thinking of making a wood mod but I think the e-pipe is probably the coolest direction to go. I will have to try this out.
I was wanting to make one with a DNA chip in it but I think even a kick will work at this point since it would be easier.

yea the kick would be the way to go. Dna chip is pretty big it would be hard to find a place for it in a pipe and still keep the shape. Even 18350 and a kick makes for a huge pipe. I've thought about the possibility of a calabash style pipe using the 18350/kick config.

Now that I've used the pipe for a few days i can say that i really like it. Auto switches aren't my favorite thing in the world but for this it works well. It kept it simple to build, aesthetically pleasing and its very relaxing sitting on the couch and vaping it without pushing any buttons or seeing any leds go off. Reminds of my pipe smoking days and thats what I was going for. The autoswitch from madvapes does have the cutoff built in but its long enough to get a decent vape.

Well, if you can bore out a section of the side wall big enough for the kick to fit sideways you can just wire it up with wires instead of putting in line with the battery. Would make a fatter but shorter pipe feasible with the kick.

Good idea but with that setup you might as well just use the chip. I was going to hollow out a section in the main body to store wiring but I managed to fit it in the mortise/stem

Here is a few more pics showing how everything works.

This is the main body by itself

IMAG0570.jpg

This shows the pin and battery cover that is just a couple index cards glued together and painted black.

IMAG0571.jpg

This shows the battery cover off showing the positive terminal for the battery.

This is the battery compartment and yes that is a penny. I hot glued my spring to a penny to make a base for it. It was easier than trying to glue the spring in the bottom of the opening.

This is the config I've been vaping the most. 510 to ego adapter, ego cone, boge LR carto and the custom stem I made for it. The ego adapter protects the autoswitch from any juice seepage.

Pic quality isnt the best They are from my phone.
