Hi!

I've been a smoker for 15 years. Very recently I stumbled across e-cigs and think I may give them a try. I bought a disposable one and have enjoyed it but I think I need a refillable to make this cost effective. So my questions are:

What type of kit should I buy to get started?

Where should I order from?

Also, how does the transition go from smoking to e-cigging? I tried quitting once and had a bad cough for awhile. Does the same thing happen with switching? Is it worse? Easier?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I would say the ego twist is the most popular starter e-cig. i got a kit myself with two batterys and two clearomizers for i think $70 from my local brick and mortar. the first day i had my ecig was also the last day i smoked an anolog cigarette. you can find ego style batteries at pretty much every retailer, both online and local.

Edit: as for the coughing thing I did have a bit of that for the first week or so but that seems to be the story regardless of how you quit. I tried cold turkey once and the same thing happened.

A good kit is the kgo ....2 batteries, a charger and delivery system and it has a kick to it. You need juice and you can get good juice for cheap at Mt. Bakers. People cough when they quit smokes because the lungs are clearing and repairing. Vaping is great. It got me off a 50 year habit of smoking. Good luck and ask questions...peace

e-cigs will help with the cravings but your lungs and body are still going to go through the transition of quitting...so that may include coughing and hacking while your lungs heal themselves. but w/o the cravings i assume it would make it easier...but you have to want to quit and push through it as many have done on the forums here.

as far as starting oh man do you have choices. the best place to start is reading through the new members forum here and you will find all sorts of options, where to get them, and learn many things along the way. since everyone is different, find something that sounds appealing to you!

A good deal of people try a disposable at first. Many people then go to a cigalike kit that will cost dearly for the pre-filled cartridges. I started that way myself, disposable, cigalike, and then I joined the forum. I wish I had found the forum first, it would have saved me a lot of money.

I was suggested to try a eGo Twist, which I did, and went through several tank systems until I found what I liked best. Some people like clearomizer tanks, others like myself like the cartomizer tank. To me, the DCT tank with a single coil cartomizer works best. You may find you like something else. You will have to learn and play around before you find your own likings. But you can still do it and wind up spending less than you did smoking cigarettes.

I spent $7 a pack per day, so spending even $100 a month was cheaper until I found what works best. Now, I spend approximately $50 or less. I'm making my own juice now, so I will be saving even more.

I've been vaping for 19 days so you can have a noob perspective along with all the vets lol

I started with the apollo standard kit though it did not take me long to realize that this was not enough for me (switching out batteries multiple times a day and a low throat hit) So I ordered apollos superior eGo kit (its not here yet so i cant comment on it yet). The second day on the cigarette look a like ones though I noticed that I was no longer hacking up the nasty stuff. I have not noticed any coughing at all, I was a pack and half a day smoker for 17 years. My sense of smell seems to be better and I can breath a bit better though i dont think I am up for running a mile just yet (I do think I will be able to soon though)!

To be fair with this kit I am only going through 1 carto a day and from reading a lot on here thats pretty good considering I never put this thing down. I bought my cartos in bulk so ended up with 60 cartomizers (I bought 11 boxes the kit came with 1 I got a discount for buying in bulk). I spent 150.00 total for the cartos and the kit ( 2 batteries, usb charger, wall charger, cigarette pack shaped charger and 5 cartos) doing the math today I broke even and I still have 40 cartos left!! So in terms of money and keeping me off cigarettes this kit was amazing. I am just looking for more vapor and a better throat hit hence why I ordered a different kit.

I do not regret ordering it as it has now paid for itself and the cartos I have left is a $200 savings. I also think this will be easier to travel with than the ego so it makes for a good back up. Plus I think it just being cigarette shaped helped a LOT in terms of not going back to real cigarettes the second day on this even though I craved a real cigarette it tasted nasty so i put it out after 1 hit, this went on the first couple of days then after about 5 days of that I did not have the urge to light another one only to put it right back out lol. I was spending $5 per pack just so you have my baseline for savings. Normally I am not so open about what I spend on things but with this I think the more info the better (lets you know what you are getting yourself into).

About a year and a couple of months ago I wrote about the same question in this very forum.

A couple of days later I received my Ego kit. Once I had sorted out the right nicotine strength liquid which took me a couple of weeks I have been a non smoker since.

There will be lots of chat about hardware. I won't even tell you what I use as a starter it won't mean much and truth to tell it doesn't mean anything but the important thing is to get a liquid with the nicotine content that meets your needs otherwise you will still smoke. After all that is why we smoke/smoked and vape for those that have transitioned.

Once you have got the nic, yeah we are lazy so and so's, the next trick is to find a flavour we enjoy vaping. Some are lucky and hit on it relatively quickly. You will know when you have found the one for you as any thoughts of a cigarette go flying out of the window. You realise that while you could go grab a pack that actually you far prefer the flavour you are getting from your vape. Oh you will try to replicate the brand of cig you use...it won't be anything like it really.

For me once I had the nic and a flavour figured it was so easy I would never have imagined. My regret ? No finding vaping earlier !

I have the Apollo Superior eGo kit. I can't compare it to anything else because I haven't tried anything else but I feel like it was wise not to try something smaller or more expensive as far as keeping "juiced up". I waited for it to arrive rather than spend money on disposable ecigs. Don't forget to enter the 19% off coupon code "March" if you decide to buy from apolloecigs dot com. 15 days tobacco-free.
