Hey guys,

I decided to quit cigarettes and been vaping for a 5 days. I bought the V2 e-cig starter kit w/auto shorty battery.

The whole point of getting the V2 e-cig was because I wanted similar to a real cigarette as far as looks and feel. But I've noticed...the first drag I take from the V2 is good but every one after that declines in satisfaction. I continually get "out of breath" as I try and get more vapor in my lungs. Makes me want to go back to cigarettes...as I miss the easy pull.

Should I return my V2 starter kit and get one of those pens? I'm clueless as to what to get....but I just want something small and slim. Something as close to a real cigarette I guess, that is easy to pull and get a drag. I was looking at some pen called the Zeus but not sure.

What's my best option?

Actually, as you get away from pens and cigalikes which don't provide much vapor, you get a whole lot more vapor with a higher powered device and it's much easier to stick with vaping. I would recommend something like an Eleaf iStick 30 watt and an Eleaf GS Air tank. The size is quite small, but you'd be getting much more vapor. Good luck.

That's all good advice. Cig-a-likes don't work well, which is why they have such a huge failure rate. If the form factor is critical to you, go with an eGo style pen and a small tank like a Nautilus mini. These will provide an reasonably acceptable vape experience and help you stay off the sticks. If you can live with the size, definitly go with something like an iStick 30 or MVP 3.0 to get more power. The same tank will work, but the greater power allows many options. Another possibility is something like an eGo One starter kit which allows sub-ohm vaping for a powerful and vapor-intense hit.

Eleaf iStick 30 Watt mod (battery) and Aspire Nautilus Mini (tank). Plus a 5 pack of coils as spares (a coil usually lasts 10 days to two weeks). You'll get over the "cig a like" desire when you experience the quality of vape this gear can provide.

I am a little prejudiced because the cig a likes didn't do a thing for me, more frustration than anything else. No satisfaction other than I was trying to quit cigs.
A little 650 mah eGo style with a CE5 (far left) is where I started. It wasn't until I got the Nautilus (on center Spinner 2 and iStick 50 watt - right) that I KNEW I had the cigs beat. Good luck in your journey.

I tried the cig-alikes as well to start and they just don't produce the quality vapor that you desire to replace the smoke you are used to. If you want something small I would recommend the eGo setup that Ou2mame recommended. It is larger than a cig-alike but will give you more vapor production. With the correct tank attached like a Kanger or Nautilus you will have a good little starter.

Congratulations on making the step to quit the cigarettes and welcome to ECF

This exactly -- I was dead-set and determined to get a cigalike; I got an eRoll, and it was ok... but I also hated how every drag after the first one was less satisfying. The fix for that is a variable wattage/voltage device; you set the power level you like, and it stays that way till it's time to recharge.

I wouldn't recommend an eGo though; you can't vape them while they're charging. If you really want something small, either an iTaste vv3/vv4 (not sure vv3's can be found anymore), or an iStick30w, which is quite small -- in that pic above, the ones that are the same height as the lighter are iStick 50w's, which I do not recommend as they have some problems -- the 30w iStick is even smaller, and is quite sound, not many problems reported with that one at all. With both the iTaste and the iStick, you get "pass-thru" mode -- you can vape while they're charging.

And yes, I know it seems odd, compared to the size/shape of a cigarette; you get over that pretty quickly when you discover how anemic the cigalike size/shape really is, and how much more satisfaction you can get with something a little larger.

Like the others have said, "cig a likes" do not work very well. I also started with them and I wasn't satisfied plus I hated buying all of the pre filled cartridges. You will have to go to a slightly larger device in order to get more battery power, which in turn will provide more vapor. Once I went to a larger device it was very satisfying and just like smoking real tobacco.

Yes return it, You can get many styles of pens ego, zeus, aspire, when your using a vape pen it makes stopping smoking a lot easier, and if you run out of juice in your pen you just refill it vs e-cig where you through the whole thing away, also if you get an adjustable voltage on your pen you and adjust for a stronger throat hit which is what most people who are trying to stop smoking are looking for.

I didn't catch if you posted your budget. This device is another option. It is about the same size as an eGo, actually I think it's a bit smaller. It's more expensive, but authentic (as opposed to a generic eGo-type) and much more versatile.

I sincerely appreciate all the feedback. My head is definitely spinning lol.

I actually like the sleekness of the Joyetech e-Grip. But I haven't done much research.

Question: If I decide to get one of the "Ego Pen style" vapes OR the "Box Mod style"....

    - Is there anything else I need to buy periodically other than the E-Liquid??

    - What is the whole deal about Wattage? How much do I really need or should look for when shopping?

    - Any other maintenance I need to stress about other than keeping it charged??

    About me:
When I was smoking real cigarettes...One pack would last me about 3 days. So I'm not a heavy or chain smoker so battery life isn't all that important.

I like going out and smoking while drinking so I'd like to find something that won't draw a ton of attention in public. Maybe I"ll keep the V2s for that then...unless there is an alternative.

    Thanks

All juice delivery devices of every kind need periodic replacement of the heating coils and wicks. In most of the gear you'll be looking at, these two parts come pre-assembled into one screw-in unit commonly called a "coil." These normally last a week to a month, depending on how hot you adjust the vape and the composition of your juice. In addition, batteries don't last forever, although you should get a year or three out of a good one. Non-removable batteries means when they go out you have to replace the entire unit. Mods with replaceable batteries can replace just the batteries while retaining the electronics. Right now, you're not looking at the latter kind of gear. Wattage is very subjective. Some people like more and others less. You aren't going to know where you fit until you try. One of the reasons I try to steer new people away from the pen-style kits is they are severely wattage limited and while big watts can be turned down, small ones can't be turned up. I would suggest something in the 30ish watt range to start, either the iStick 30 or the MVP 3.0. That will give you room to maneuver and see what you like.

    • I started with a eGo style iTaste Clk! Fitted with an Aspire Maxi or K1 it is fairly inexpensive
    • The eLeaf iStick 30w or new TC40W outfitted with ether a Nautilus Mini (low air flow) or Kangertech Subtank Mini (higher air flow)
    • Kangertech has a "sub box kit" which could be another option
The right gear (for you) can really make a difference in getting away from analogs!

    Good luck!

keep the original setup as a backup device..... and get a better unit for primary use....
I prefer the IPV4 mod and the Aqua atty...

and remember, vaping isnt smoking and there are differences... dont expect vaping to be like smoking, go ahead and set your mind to that factor and you wont be so dissappointed in the change over ....

I'm a fan of the ego one... I put a kanger nano on that puppy and entered the world of sub ohming... So much more vapor.. I wish I started with the ego one and skipped a year of ego twist type contraptions. I'm a huge fan of sub ohming.. I think that it will help more people quit analogs than any other type of device. Start with the ego one kit for around 60bucks.

Hey ducaduca. Welcome to the forums. When I first started out I actually went to a dedicated Vape shop after I did a little research online on what was out there. I strongly recommend you do this as well. I found actually putting my hands on a device and seeing it in person really helped me. Also, if the attendant at the Vape shop is worth their weight, the will help you with all your questions and concerns with each particular device. In your case, not being such a huge smoker in the first place, I wouldn't recommend anything sub ohm quite yet. If the clerk tries to up sell you to that type of device I would consider going to a more helpful shop. I would seriously look into the Nautilus mini paired with an iStick 30. Great combo IMHO, as some have already stated, and the mod also offers a little headroom for moving to more upgraded tanks and devices as you progress through your vaping journey. Also consider buying two setups as you will always want a backup. Good luck and I hope this helps!

The start of this journey is one the most difficult part to endure, but is very much achievable. Cig-a-likes will just discourage you from vaping (maybe they were designed to do just that), so as people suggested, an iStick 30w with mini tanks (Goblin mini is awesome) will surely be better.

    Good luck!

Actually they enabled me to cut all the way from a pk a day to zero, though I upgraded to a vv/vw on my first full day as a non-smoker. They showed me that this could work, given proper equipment -- I couldn't invest too much $$$ at first because I was still buying cigarettes, but once I saw that this really could be the cure for smoking, I was far more willing to spend money on decent hardware -- also I'm hard-headed, I'd been told all the drawbacks of cigalikes right here in this forum, but I just had to find out for myself why they're inadequate. :D But when I relapsed and had to get smoke-free the 2nd time, that eRoll worked well for me again -- I needed to fool my addicted brain, or at least confuse it somewhat. :D
