I really... So much justification for non-safe practices and niggling going on, it's unfortunate.
A safe build is not "the max I can push my battery to on it's very first day of vaping, and I will use NO built in safety add-ons to account for variations in testing one's build, the build changing as it is heated (depending on type of wire, but often resistance can change over time, usually declining) and an obsessive desire for a hot, dense vape and these are all really tragic practices.
It's almost as if there is an INTEREST in being on "the edge" of safety, or building to the maximum performance.
I don't buy a wattage mod that is only capable of 60 watts and then vape it at 59.9 watts-- because it's a bad idea and will strain batteries and mod, so why people think this is so cool to do simply because it's a mech escapes me.
As far as I'm concerned if I ever vape a mech I will leave myself AT LEAST 0.40 resistance for safety if not MORE in the right direction, not niggle about but my batteries can do THIS. I want more clouds! I want a hot vape! I will certainly calculate the numbers (and probably soon with the husband) but there is no need for this type of vaping practice (period) IMO, I think a lot of new mech users have that thrill seeking thing going on, and it's odd as one sees that much less with regulated mechs.
Maybe mechs are sexy? What happened to that dude's face was the epitome, the nadir of UNSEXY. Mechs are nice, I'm quite sure, especially for folks who really want to try that type of vaping, but they should be considered sticks of dynamite LITERALLY/ACTUALLY but not FIGURATIVELY.
And yes, newcomers do read these threads, so saying "I will reserve my unsafe builds for experienced users" is not so helpful. Experienced users don't NEED that kind of feedback, they usually prefer to ARGUE against it, so really, perhaps the "bleeding edge of safety" should be thought about just a little bit harder because I don't care if I blow the hottest, thickest cloud (well if it were a fart, I might have some embarrassment) if I blow my fingers off in the process, it's not a good thing.....
