Hi fellow vapers :)

I have a question about my new USB Mains Adapter I just bought.

I normally charge my battery directly from the USB port on my computer(right near my face) so I thought I'd buy a USB Mains Adapter and one of them Li-Po safety charging bags.

So today my order arrived and I tried out the
USB Mains Adapter. All was good at first, then about one hour in I hear this VERY high pitch tone(scared the hell out of me) lol. Now I don't know if this noise was coming from the charger or the USB Mains Adapter, either way I unplugged it immediately.

With what happened I'm scared to plug the battery into my computers USB port to see which was defected.

Battery is a 2 week old eGo-C Twist 650mah.

USB charger details: joyetech - 500mA - 420mA

USB Mains Adapter: 100mA - 700mA <--------------------------------------------- Think this is the problem?

My battery still vapes, but is it safe to charge again(via the USB)?

Cheers.

Randall.

No, that's not the problem. That adapter supplies what is taken from it by the charger, so being rated for more is a good thing.

I've never heard of this before. Was the battery warm when you took it off the charger? I would not plug the charger into a computer without knowing if it's defective. It could draw too much current and fry your motherboard.

No, the battery wasn't warm.

I never charge using my pc's USB port, I always use a wall plug. May not be safer but won't effect my PC. Glad your using the bag that's a real good thing.

I found out about that bag from here :) Never heard of them before lol.

I bought the wall adapter for that reason bud. Didn't want my gaming rig to blow up lol :)

That's good and you're using it successfully so hopefully it's OK. I was worried about battery damage which could be dangerous. No smoke or strange smell when it happened?

I suggest you wait a while and see what other people say about this. As I said I've never heard this before so I'm stumped.

High pitched noises from USB Mains Adapter usually mean a protection component is either vibrating,(may or may not be dangerous, depends on how well built the USB Mains Adapter was), or that something is leaking electricity.
I've seen many of them buzz. Have also had lower quality 18650 batt chargers hum.
Happy to see you're no longer charging off the USB port and using a bag.

Actually took 1 apart awhile ago and a pcb was loosing and rattling. From a Kgo PV kit.

Nope. No smell nor smoke, thankfully :)

I've email the suppliers and they've offered me a refund or a replacement. I choose the replacement first to see if it was just a faulty one :)

Great. Unfortunately, unlike 18650 batt chargers, there's no real upgrade in regards to eGo chargers and wall adapters. A wise move that you bought a charging bag IMO. The wall adapter that I opened needed some adhesive to hold the pcb in place and although I never gave it back to the user it did stop buzzing. You'll find is you listen very closely most chargers do emit a hum- some very loud and others barely heard.

Yeah I have heard chargers/batteries making a slight hum noise before, but just not like this. I'm pretty surprised my glass of juice didn't explode lol.

Absolute guess here... :)

Assuming the sound stopped when you unplugged...

Bad mains adapter. Any hum should be (over there, anyway!) at 50 Hz and it's harmonics. Hardly high pitched. May be a bad capacitor in the adapter, as when failing or on the verge of doing so, they can emit a high continuous sound before popping.

If you have another USB adapter, say for a phone or tablet, with the requisite 5VDC output and at least 500 mA rating, you could try that with your Ego charger. Since the battery wasn't warm - after an hour on charge - I wouldn't expect it to be the problem.

Cheers for the heads up :)

I did try the battery before in my old laptop and it worked(thankfully).

The USB adapter has been sent back now and my replacement should be with me tomorrow or the day after.

I shall report back with the news.

Cheers.

Update:

I got my replacement about 20 minutes ago and............................. This is the same? LOL

I've tried the charger on all 6 of my different eGo batteries and it's the same with all :(

So next step.....Try a different vendor lol.

Damn shame :(

That is a damn shame. Could be he received a batch of lemons. Do you have access to a digital multi tester?

If you join the Forum above I can almost guarantee there's someone in your neck of the woods willing to help...just promise to come visit us :D
One more point...if Vendors are not up to snuff Chrissie has no problem about removing them meaning they must adhere to strict code of ethics to remain listed. She recently removed a Vendor that wasn't answering customer's emails in a timely fashion.
