This was my first transistor radio that i got when i was 12 years old. I would lay under the blankets at night listening to kmox out of st louis when the nba had a team called the billikens there. I broke that radio many years ago and have been trying to find a good one on ebay for a few years now.

Look what I found! And it works. Good old Ebay. Sounds great. 1962 Arvin model (62AR48) I purchased with paper route money. 2010 Reo Grand.

I am happy for you sweetie! What a wonderful find!

Isn't is strange though to hear "today's" music coming from "that" radio? Something in my brain tells me the songs from back then should be stored inside! LOL!

Oh!! You got it!!! I'm so glad. Really nice.....it's sure in better shape than the one you owned/used. LOL Congratulations! I know you wanted that. I'm going to try to find the old transister radio I had back in the 60s.....it's somewhere in my house.

Thanks Jan. I bet you woke up today and said, "Oh yea, this is so good." :)

Well the original has been gone for about 50 years now. I think the new radio is in better shape than I am. I was listening to oldies on it...lol. Hope you can find your old one. You probably put it where you could find it easily.

That's exactly right. Therefore, I'll probably NEVER find it!!

Wonderful thread! I read through these earlier this afternoon while the grandbaby was napping and his older sister was playing at the neighbor's house. The stories that are in a lot of those memories are precious.

I had the metal adjustable skates with the skate key. I remember the Christmas my sister and I got Clackers in our stocking (and all the bruises we got on our arms from them). I wish I had kept some of my Barbies - I had the original version - with the straight, unbending legs and the blond hair up in the ponytail. I remember how excited I was when I got enough birthday money when I was 8 to buy the "twist-and-turn" Barbie with bendable legs. I always wished I had Midge. I did have Barbie's mod "Carnaby Street" house. I also remember letting my little sister's "Baby First Steps" walk off the dining room table, resulting in a broken leg (on the doll).

I think I was in the 6th or 7th grade before the school district allowed girls wear pants to school.

I remember Gunne Sax dresses. I bought a Gunne Sax dress for my wedding dress. We went down to the factory outlet store in the garment district in San Francisco and bought the dress. Then on the drive home, I decided to wear my mom's wedding dress, so I used the Gunne Sax dress for my 'reception' dress.

My grandfather loved to take pictures, so most any overnight stay at my grandparents house included an evening of watching slides from their latest vacations.

I remember back in Jr High kids would sell candy like it they were *unmentionables*. Looking back at it they were just lil *unmentionable* dealers in training! Yeah I went to one of those schools!

I remember being so naive of the "ways of the world" when I was in junior high. A friend said someone had put *some thing beginning with an "r"* in her locker to get her in trouble, and I thought she was talking about the insects, and couldn't figure out how that would get her in trouble!

I also went to my first concert when I was in 8th grade, with a friend and her dad - the Grateful Dead in San Francisco. It was a very sensory experience - oranges and the sweet smell of things that were being passed down the row (and my friend's dad kept a close eye on us to make sure we did nothing more than continue to pass them along!).

I remember playing in corn fields. The corn was over my head. You could get lost but you were completely hidden from everyone.

All of my places of residence while living in California were rental houses. This was from 1959 to 1968.

One of our houses had a creek in the back. I would go down there everyday after school and catch tadpoles and frogs. Just me. One day I was maneuvering along the sloped bank and got a huge gash in my leg from some rusty metal. I ran inside and grabbed the bottle of Mercurochrome. The cut was deep enough that it was wide open, no blood yet, just white flesh with little red dots. I applied some of the medicine and went back outside. When I looked down I saw blood pouring out and down my leg. "MOMMY!" I yelled as I walked back inside. She totally freaked out! Got on the phone and called my dad at work. His remedy was a couple strips of tape across it to close it shut and a bandage. My Mom had to take me to the neighbor to get that done.

Now we rush off to the Dr. or ER for something of that nature. At least I did with my kids!

BTW I still have a scar two inches long and about 1/4 inch wide where the cut healed, it never did stay closed.

I remember when teachers were still allowed to hug their students.

I, too, really enjoy this thread. :)

Yeah that and when you were bad they'd beat ya with a Christmas tree paddle with holes the shape of ornaments to "complete the effect." I wasn't always the good student and "Christmas" came several times a year. This was back around 1983-1985 or so but I do remember that very vividly! They can't do that nowadays without guaranteeing career suicide!

Ohhh yeah and they wouldn't cancel school just because there was a CHANCE of snow.........:glare:

there were a few teachers i really, really wanted to hug back :)

seriously, i would have loved to have hugged a teacher or two who probably saved my life

My high school biology teacher did hug a student at times, but it was only ever one girl (really pretty and often wore low cut shirts) and yeah, the whole thing was kinda creepy. Come to think of it, that's the only thing I remember at all about that class...
