Like an alcoholic with a just one bottle left as a reminder, it seems like a possible crutch for someone who isn't 100% sure they can make it.
I would remove all temptations and have faith in your already proven will power. I did the same thing you mentioned and a few weeks into vaping I almost ran out of juice and I rationalized that I had something to fall back on. That's when I got rid of them for good.

When I started vaping 2 years ago, I promised myself that I would still force myself to smoke at least 1 cigarette a day so not to put my body through withdrawals. After a week and a half, I realized I hadn't smoked my allotted dose from a cigarette the day before (I had actually forgotten) and lit one up.

Conversation with self: Eeew, gag, barf, ok, I don't think I'm going to do that again.

Threw away the 10 cigarettes I had left.

They have been sitting on my bookshelf since December. In plain view. Somebody tried to tell me to throw them away, but I keep them as a reminder that I have the choice to not smoke, as weird as that may sound. Anybody else do the same?

Yep exactly the same. Got the last pack I was smoking from still sitting by the front door, with 12 in it. It's my "no need to panic" stash; as long as I have options, and I'm CHOOSING to not smoke, I'm perfectly fine with it. The least hint of duress, such as having none available, and I'd be back to craving a smoke and climbing the walls.

I know of a recovering alcoholic who's had the same unopened bottle of scotch in his cupboard for over 50 years. I'm the same way with smokes. I have an unopened carton of them in my fridge. Knowing they're there removes the obsession for me. I, too, made myself smoke one or two daily to avoid the detoxing problem and that's why I have it left over.

When I had to quit drinking, there was still a 12 pk of beer in my fridge. Everytime I'd think about maybe a little hair of the dog... I'd be on the floor again, shaking to beat the band. So I finally gave up the idea so I could get off the floor; my husband finished the 12 pk, so his sobriety date is a week after mine. :D

I just smoked the last 8, in the last week I smoked (8 cigarettes in 6 days! THAT was mainly what convinced me I didn't need 'em anymore), to entirely convince myself that cigarettes really did taste foul compared to vaping. Every one I smoked, I was more convinced. Finally I just figured it was time to fish or cut bait.

I bought my last pack Jan 19th..... I finally chunked them at the beginning of March.

But I never had plans to smoke them, especially not after a week. Even as a smoker, week old cigarettes weren't worth a damn. I liked my smokes fresher than that.

well you've got more will power than me. i made sure i was down to my last cigarette the night before my starter kit arrived. if i tried to keep a pack as a reminder, or whatever, it would've been too much temptation.

I had about 5 or 6 cigs left in an open pack when I switched to vaping back in May of last year....I think I held on to them in a drawer for 2 months before I finally threw them away, lol.

I remember the day I threw them away, I figured I'd light one up and smoke my last one just to do it. It tasted like ashtray, and I got about 5 puffs in before I threw it out. Glad I Did that, because that was the last I was around smokes, and I've never looked back!
