Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, I bought a e-Power 18650 kit with XL 1.7ohm single-coil cartomizers along with some accessories and sample flavors of juice. I charged up both batteries and filled two cartos with juice using instructions I found on ECF; one with a zero-nicotine 20% VG doubler from Tasty Vapor, and one with a 12mg macchicato. I'm not getting the results I expected and I guess these don't come with user manuals...<g>.

Q#1 - How should the batteries be inserted? When I put a fully charged battery into the unit it either doesn't work at all or the unit seems to fire non-stop. I've tried rapidly pressing the button five times to shut it off, but it doesn't help and the unit gets very hot. Shouldn't the unit only be making sputtering noises and getting hot when the button is pressed? I've only tried it out a few times because of this and removed the batteries after each try. The one time it wasn't sputtering non-stop, I did the rapid press thing to shut it off instead of removing the battery and the battery was dead an hour later.

Q#2 - When I am able to produce vapor, it doesn't seem to produce much - maybe a mouthful. Is this normal? I was expecting to be able to get a good amount with this unit.

Q#3 - Since I only tried a few times before deciding I need advice, I have only tried the clove doubler (which I like, but is VERY clove), and the macchiato (which smells wonderful, but tasted like dirty socks). Beside not really caring for the macchiato flavor, I found it to be very harsh and unpleasant. Is this the throat hit I read of? It's nothing comparable to the sensation of inhaling smoke from an analog; this is like accidentally inhaling ant spray or something. If that's the case, I don't think I like vaping nicotine; only smoking it.

I really want this to work. Any advice?

Thanks,

Bechi

Thanks all for your responses. I had assumed that I just wasn't doing something right. I'm inserting the battery with the flat end against the spring, and the raised end pointing to where the atty or carto is. I did try reversing it just to be sure, but the device didn't work at all that way. I just emailed Sweet-Vapes for their advice.

Can anyone tell me what I should expect for this device operating normally? Should it make sputtering, hissing (like a camp stove before being lit) noises? All the time? Only when the button is depressed? Should any part of it get warm or hot to the touch (parts that would normally be touched)? How much vapor should be produced from a typical "sample" juice? Part of the problem is I just don't have any practical experience to use for comparison.

Thanks,

Bechi

Depends on what you call sputtering. If you have juice in say a carto, atty, whatever, yes, you do hear some hissing sounds. That's the atomizer heating the juice. But only when you press the button to vape. Sometimes a unit can get ALITTLE bit warm.,.meaning alittle warmer than you hand, but definately not hot to the touch. If you have a hot battery something is wrong. I get more vaper than I did smoke when I smoked, but it quickly disapates. Some of how much vaper you get depends on your blend of juice. I vape a 70/30 mix...meaning 70%PG 30% VG.

You should get a little hiss when the cartomizer is properly filled and you push the button. It should never get hot, the cartomizer may get a little hot (maybe), but really you shouldn't get much heat out of any unit. Vapor production is going to be dependent on juice composition, but either way you should get decent vapor production out of a PV like that. Vaping should be pleasant, throat hit wont be unpleasant, more just feeling that you're inhaling something (more nic means you're going to feel it more/get more nic). If you get your PV problem taken care of and your juice still has an unpleasant or burnt taste/feel then you may have burnt out your cartomizers (specifically the filler inside). If they're going to replace the unit you may want to get some cartomizers just in case.

Was the battery purchased from the vendor you bought the E-power from? A 1.7 ohm atty at 3.7v generates about 2.2 amps of current draw. Do you have a 2 ohm or 3 ohm carto or atty to try? The 1.7 may be overpowering the electronics. You will feel some heat on the 1.7 ohm atomizer when it fires. It will get warm in a few seconds while you are drawing and the vapor will be warm. The case of the E-power shouldn't get hot. You may feel a a little warmth where the atty or carto screws in after you vape frequently for a while.

Who knows what's going on here? My first thoughts are bad electronics. Nothing shoudl happen until you press the button. There might be a flash of the LED on the button when you insert the battery, but not coil firing. I wouldn't try anymore until I talked to the people who sold it to me. Have you talked to the vendor?

Tommy,

The burnt taste / feel was with a newly-filled carto, so I don't think it was the filler burning. The only difference between the two cartos I filled and tried (besides flavors) was the clove was zero-nicotine and the coffee was 12mg, so I wasn't sure if maybe I just didn't care for the nicotine in the juice (not necessarily a BAD thing <g>!). As you can tell, I'm embarrassingly new to all of this, and just assumed I'd figure things out as I went along, but that's not working out so well.

Thanks!

When you get your equipment situation all fixed up give them a try, each flavor in the same cartos/different cartos just to see. When I first started I had quite a few LR cartos I thought I had properly filled completely only to throw them on and get a very unpleasant burnt taste/throat hit which is usually the result of burning filler. Just something to be aware of is all, once you get everything figured out you'll know what works best for you setup wise be it gear, carto/atty, juice, and voltage.

Good luck with it, and I hope you get everything working so you can get back to us.

Edit:

Also, your electrical problem sounds like it's the switch. If you have a spare I'd throw it on there to see if that fixes anything.

Dave,

The kit I purchased came with two 2200mAh batteries. The say Epower Smok 18650 -ICR 18650 2200 mAh 3.7V and reference the website of the device - Smoktech dual coils cartomizer Manufacturer|dual coils 510 cartomizer|510-DC|510DCT|510-DCT|smok ego dual coils cartomizer|smoktech 510DCT|510 dual coils tank/18650|joye egot|egotank|14650 epower dual coils cartomizer|Elektronische sigaret,e-Zigarett. I'm sure they're the "right" batteries, but not so sure that something isn't defective somewhere. I made a few attempts when I first received the unit and got the batteries charged, but it just didn't seem "right", so I took the batteries out and figured I'd post here for pointers when I got some free time (it's been a few weeks since all of this). I did email Sweet-Vapes via their website, but don't have a number to call. If I dont' hear back by tomorrow, I'll try them on here also. I think they have a vendor forum.

Again, I really appreciate everyone's help.

Thanks,

Bechi

Sorry about your problems. This doesn't help right now but most E-Power users always had a spare switch/ button on hand. Maybe worthwhile when SweetVapes resolves the issues ordering one- maybe they forgive the postage. One suggestion- have you looked very closely at the switch to make sure it's completely dry and has no juice on it?
Good Luck.

The thing we are all concerned about is what you said about the E-power firing when you inserted the battery. That's an instant problem. It shouldn't happen. It sounds like you are having to insert the battery and take a vape and then remove it. I wouldn't call that safe at all. Unless I'm wrong, it sounds hazardous.
Try this. I got it from Sweet Vapes by clicking the "contact us" menu selection. Good Luck!

Here's the best way to fill a new cartomizer to make sure you get it fully saturated. The coil that heats the juice is in the bottom end (the threaded end). It can appear saturated at the top and be dry at the bottom. Once you fill them this way, you can add a couple of drops when the filler turns white. Pull off the drip tip or mouthpiece to check.

I just spoke to Dayna at Sweet-Vapes; she's been sick the past few days and hadn't been able to return calls so just got back to me. She says it sounds like a bad switch and will send out a replacement. I'm looking forward to finally getting to experience what this is all about! I'll let you all know how I make out when I receive it.

I'm glad you're all here. I thought I was having problems due to my own ignorance!

Thanks,

Bechi

Just to follow up, I received the replacement switch from Sweet-Vapes, and now I see how this is supposed to work! Dayna also threw in a couple of thread adapters as a surprise for the larger Smoketek cartos I ordered earlier, but didn't realize wouldn't fit on my setup "as is". I can't say enough good things about this company.

Thanks again to everyone for pointing me in the right direction so I could get this fixed.
