I think I'm doing it wrong

vaping is completely new to me. Found out about it a few weeks ago and have been intrigued ever since. I've picked up 2 disposables from local stores and was reasonably impressed considering the low quality of the product. They weren't nearly as terrible as I imagined they would be. Now today I picked up a cheapo USB passthrough, carts, blank carts, extra atty and juice. This is fine for now but I'll be upgrading in a few weeks. The reason I think I'm doing it wrong is that I really don't have any desire to quit analogs, at all. I'm just really keen on the ecig's. I think they are neat and it's another gadget to play with. Maybe I'll just really like the ecig's and quit analogs through preference or something, idunno. But anyways, thanks for having such a good resource for info on ecigs at this forum, happy vaping.

You aren't doing it wrong at all. A lot of people take up vaping for different reasons. True, most of us are here to quit smoking, but it's not uncommon for someone to just try it as a supplement to their regular smoking schedule, or so that they can smoke on long airplane trips or hospital stays, even just because they're gadget people and it's a new toy.

Funny part is that almost all of them end up vaping exclusively at some point or another just because it's a better experience than smoking. They sort of forget to smoke one day and never go back. If you ever run across your "sweet spot" (perfect PV + perfect juice) it could even happen to you. But if it doesn't, that's no big deal either since that's not why you got it to begin with.

As long as you're having fun!

I think your problem is that you "really don't have any desire to quit analogs, at all." I really wanted to quit smoking and used the e-cigs to get me through the cravings for a cigarette. The nicotine in the juice helped a lot too. After 2 weeks of e-cigs, I really prefer the flavor of the juices to the taste of smoke. The key was I really wanted to quit.

If you have no desire at all to stop (not intention or goal, just desire) and just use a PV in addition to your cigarettes, then you may just increase your nicotine dependence. But some people have quit smoking by accident here - picked up an e-cig out of curiosity and then at some point realize they haven't had a cigarette for 6 hours and didn't even miss it. So give it a try. Why not get a decent one you can carry around with you.

I never wanted to quit either. I had already decided that I'd go ahead and let smoking kill me rather than quit again and be that miserable person.

That's why I switched to vaping, this way I don't have to quit. I just switched to a brand that won't kill me.

Yeah, I don't have anything against quitting. If I end up vaping 100% and smoking 0% that's fine. If it ends up being 50/50 I'm okay with that as well.

When I picked up my first e-cig kit (the SafeCig) I never intended to completely quit smoking, I wanted it so I would smoke less because I thought it would save me money. ($5, pack a day smoker). Once I started vaping though I realized that the need to have a real cigarette wasn't there so I invested my money in better equipment and juices.

I'm 5, almost 6 weeks into vaping and haven't bought a pack of smokes since New Years. I do, on rare occasions (normally when drinking) want a cig and will bum one from my roommate, but after a few hits I normally put it out and save it for later in the night.

Right now I don't feel like I've saved money vaping because I'm spending so much money on trying different juices and I'm having a hard time finding a all-day vape juice, but once I find the right one I know that overall I will be spending much less on vaping then I was smoking.

I agree with Rosa. You are not doing anything wrong. E-cigs are no necessarily a method to quit smoking. They are an alternate method. Some people switch to e-cig in order to quit. Some, as Rosa stated, use vaping as a way to supplement smoking when it is not convenient or a possibility. Others simply like the variety of flavors. For years I smoked cigs and a pipe. The cigs were convenient, but a pipe offered tons of relaxation and flavor. I started vaping when I was flying 3x per week. Without really trying, I just switched to full-time vaping a while back.

I loved smoking and still take vaping breaks outside with the smokers- imho smokers tend to be a lot more fun to be around. I also permit smoking in my house. I never want to become a "reformed" smoker who suddenly condemns what I had done for years. I didn't like it when I was treated that way and have no intentions of treating others that way.

Do what works for you and enjoy the diversity.

That's so me, it's not even funny!!!

I started (almost a year ago) just because I thought it was a neat gadget. Then I decided it would be a much cheaper way to get my 'nic fix'. Then I found how much better I was feeling. And I realized I could smell things again! (which isn't always a good thing). Then I saw how many other ways it was affecting my life. Low and behold.. I found my sweet spot and I realized I didn't want to smoke anymore. So I didn't.
That was about four or five months ago. I can't remember the date I had my last cigarette. I didn't mark it on my calendar. But I do remember the day. I remember looking out at my porch, and my smoking chair, and I remember thinking to myself "naw, I think I'll stay inside."
That's all it took.

Stick with it, if you like it. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Amen to that - I didn't want to quit either - I enjoy it too much, specially over a cup of java in the morning, after meals, social occasions... Funny thing though - one day, I was out of analogs and didn't feel like going to the corner gas station - that was my last analog. Now I vape at these same times during the day, I enjoy vaping even more than smoking -

For me, vaping wasn't enough of a direct replacement to smoking right away. For one thing I had a piece of crap e-cig from the corner store and it just didn't cut it. After I got my Riva 510 I only smoked a few cigarettes for like 2 days and then quit. I still get cravings, but i just vape a couple hits of some strong nicotine and the craving is gone. It's all about wanting to quit...and how can anyone not want to quit knowing that it kills you, makes you stink horribly, and costs you a fortune.

I'm the same way- my best friend quit 2 years ago and is pregnant now, and she and her husband look at me like I'm poisoning their baby by vaping anywhere near her. I still take smoke breaks outside with my friends that smoke.
