... As for US suppliers, as far as I can determine, everything comes from 3(?) factories in China. I see this as the problem. Does it matter where you buy if the source is the same? ...

Doris, I actually just heard that many factories are popping up in China producing knock-offs. I seem to remember that the report said there were already 18 factories producing knock-offs and more are coming. Of course, they don't have the same quality control as the original manufacturer and the material is probably not the same quality either.

The reason I mention the M201 is that I saw a review on them and the reviewee liked it better than an DSE-801. Said had an atomizer twice the size of the DSE-801.

I'm sure you mean Figureheads' review. He was comparing the atomizer *wick*, not the atty coil.

However, I do agree, the M201 is an excellent penstyle.

@Doris - I'd suggest a 510 if you can deal with the manual button, an M201 if you can deal with it 'looking like a pen,' or an M401/402/EVO if you want a reliable super-mini. Best of luck!

A good part of my frustration comes from the fact that sometimes the hardware is good & reliable but too often not. In other words. the manufacturers could produce a decent product if they wanted to. Back to my comments about QC & manufacturing standards. I would gladly pay a premium & know the product I purchased was reliable.

My current equipment status. Ruyan Direct will refund my money. I have found them to be easy to deal with. I have 2 dead atomizers & 2 extremely weak batteries. The other 2 atomizers & batteries seem to be hanging in there. If they last the week, which will make it nearly 3 wks, I will return the failed stuff for replacements, with fingers crossed. If not, I'll go for the refund.

BTW I did consider the 510(?), with the manual switch until I learned a charged battery only lasts 2 hours. This won't work for me.

BTW again. I haven't reached a firm decision about what to do about my nic addiction if my remaining 2 901s fail this week. I've heard bad things, now, about both the gum & lozenges. I also learned that I can roll my own for about $1.10 a pack + a $40 machine, if I decide to go the coffin nail route.

I plan, in any case, to stick around this forum. My hope is that sometime soon, there will be an e-cig that will reliably meet my needs.

    Doris

Hi Doris. I replied before seeing this update from you.

I'd definitely suggest an M401 or perhaps an EVO (same parts, interchangeable, slightly shorter battery), considering your above statements. Battery life is quite good, especially for a super-mini.

RE: Quality/mfgrs - I do believe there are 'knockoffs' out there, and also that QC is lacking. Having said that, I've had great luck with my known genuine Smoore e-cigs - M401s and M201s. I think quality *must* go up, but this is a relatively new industry, as well as a relatively inexpensive one.

I think the biggest mistake people make is not realizing the amount of work that is required to make a good ecig experience. Not work in the sense of digging a ditch, of course. But work nonetheless.

There should be a mandatory training video (like Spikey's or something similar) that you must watch before making your first ecig purchase (no matter the model). Upon viewing the video and successfully answering 5 simple questions you are then issued a "license" number (kinda like a drivers license). This number could be entered at any supplier to certify that you understand the commitment needed to successfully utilize ecigs............

Of course this is more complicated than is practical, but you get the idea..............

I am inclined to agree with that statement.:thumb:

Doris, I was very frustrated with the 510 battery life as well. I really enjoy using it but having the batteries die every 2 hours was very frustrating. I finally broke down and purchased the PCC for it and it has made a huge difference.

Maybe just one more thing for you to consider before going back to RYO.

    That's debatable;

If you use an e-cig as intended, the minis work well and last a reasonably long time. It's when you get into heavy use, and constant vaping, that you need the mods. Different strokes for different folks.

If everyone matched their equipment to their usage, there would be less problems. A lot of people on this group have to get the users facts before they start recommending. It would save a lot of frustration.

I agree with you, although it was stated in the first post on the tread what the requirements were. From what I read #1 was to reduce frustration by reducing the maintenance of battery management and the like. There are a lot of folks who can be happy with a mini or super, but heavy users who hate messing with batteries will not be happy. If the OP can't get over the "it has to look like a cigarette" requirement then there will be more frustration and ultimately they will end up quitting vapeing. The OP is tired of messing with batteries. What mini or super mini will solve that? What better solution do you offer? I'm not trying to be a ...., I'd like to know what recommendation is better.

I don't suppose Doris is paying much attention to us newbies anymore :)

For what it's worth, I'll be using two ecigs: Usually a 510. But a white DSE901 for looks. I'll have the 510 in one pocket sized kit, and the DSE901 in another pocket sized kit. At any time, one kit will be in my pocket and the other in my car.

My array of wall chargers might take up a whole wall :) I might get a multi-port USB source to power ecigs in the future.

I'm with everyone on one thing: This is getting expensive. But at 52 years old, it's cheaper than an oxygen tank.

    Vaping to breathe :)

I'm starting to feel like a fool, too. I've spent hundreds of dollars also and have hardly even experienced vaping yet. I went and spent a lot of money on 20 atomizers today in anticipation of my 2 devices...the screwdriver and the prodigy, of which I have neither at the moment.
I would really like to understand how they can ask so much money for these atomizers.
Are they really worth that much? And so many bad ones.
(which just made me realize I SHOULD have purchased them in the US, then I would be able to return them...) argh.... I was so excited about this e-smoking concept because I have to stop smoking the real thing.
I just hope it works ok...

I thought I was a fool too but I can't be concerned with what others say about the 801, I gambled on the 801 and I am totally satisfied! Be sure to give your pv a fair chance, there is a learning curve here. The 801 is for quitters ( ;) ), thats me...I really believe I will be quiting in less than six months! BELIEVE IT OR NOT! I have 500 invested in this and I am totally happy with the product....500 is cheap to quit cigs. I have plenty of supplies stocked up to make it now! I even stocked some low meg juice for when I start "turning down" the strength.
I love it when a plan comes together! good luck everybody!

I know those big flashlight/screwdriver mods aren't for everybody. i don't even think the 510 is for everybody. I like my 510, but I freakin' love my EVO from Innovapor (supplier in the US) with Ecopure liquid (made in the UK). It's the size of a cigarette and it draws like a cigarette. The cart actually wicks dry. I can restuff a cart and get at least 60 puffs. 3 or 4 carts will last a whole day out for me (at home I vape more). No drilling holes in the carts, no tiny straws or needles or springs. It also made me realize PG irritates my mouth, nose and throat (and more than likely my recovering lungs). It just works for me.

Now if they would just come out with a PCC....

I wish you the best and hope you can achieve some level of operation that works for you. I'm starting to realize some of the benefits of not smoking tobacco ciggies, after a little over a month of e-cigs. Latest - my wife says I'm not snoring nearly as much or as loud and I know I'm sleeping more soundly. I see these as benefits to not smoking and if the e-cigs are a path to the right outcome, I'm taking the good with the bad.

I use the seemingly humble RN 4081, and for my needs, it's fine. I've not had a piece of the system completely crap out on me, but I do get inconsistent performance from the atomizers. I've been able to blow them out, etc. but it is completely frustrating when one just stops cold. I have 4 batteries, 4 atomizers and am refilling cart's.

The benefits are outweighing the hassles - I'm glad to not be smoking straight tobacco anymore. :)

    Doris;
We all agree with you to some degree. I personally am very angry with the cr*p quality. I thought it was because I've been using the 901. I tried atomizers from a source with an identifiying logo,-- thought that would improve things --- you know 'name brand' kind of thing --nope. My starter kit cost $60 - not a fortune true, - but if I spend $60 on a blender, toaster, set of speakers, - I expect it to last longer than a month
Five and 6 yrs now after the invention of e-cigs, it's time for some American manufacturer to step up to the plate and rework the quality issue. -- Maybe tweek some design flaws too. I understand that one of the reasons why the batteries give up the ghost is because liquid gets inside.
Well, --duhhh - there's a hole in my 901 battery. And, it is downhill from the atomizer. And the atomizer has liquid and also has a hole. The holes are necessary for the vacuum switch to activate. But the way I look at it, it's a design flaw.
Unlike Doris, I'm not ready to give up on e-cigs. At this point, they're still the best option. I still spend 1/3 the price of when I smoked analogues, and I don't smell like an old ashtray. I am an e-cigger, but look forward to the coming of the second generation - much improved in quality electronic cigarettes.
