I think I'm finally getting the hang of this Subtank

I picked up an iStick 50W and a Subtank Mini this past weekend. At first I didn't like the Subtank Mini at all, it was too airy (I like a harder draw) even with the air control set to the lowest opening and the flavor was much different. I am using 24 mg Halo Subzero mixed 50/50 with 6 mg Uncle Junk's Honey Do. When I vape it in my Halo Triton, I get a very pronounced honeydew melon flavor and the menthol is very subdued. When I put the same juice into a Protank 2 mini on the iStick, the ratio of the flavor is much more balanced. With the same juice in the Subtank, then the menthol was very pronounced and you could hardly taste any of the honeydew at all. I was beginning to feel like I wasted money on getting the Subtank. Last night I decided to play around and experiment with it and set the air control to the largest opening. What a huge difference that made. While the draw is still airy and it feels like I am drawing it directly into my lungs (with the other tanks I was doing mouth to lung inhales, is this what they mean by lung inhales?) there has been much improvement in the flavor. The honeydew flavor is still weakest on the Subtank, but at least now I do taste it. I do find myself setting the power very low. With the Subtank using the 1.2 ohm coil, the iStick is set at 9 watts. I like the cooler vape. The Subtank is still not my favorite, but it'll do.

I think the wattage setting you are vaping at may be muting the flavor. But I know the subtank is not a COOL vape. My actual favorite part of the Original Subtank is that the RBA deck actually restricts the airflow quite a bit which many people disliked. Overall it has been my favorite tank, I also have the original insulator which has not had any issues/melting/burning/taste.

The only thing I think Kanger could have improved on would have been the smaller airflow settings (similar to Atlantis maybe?) and the ridiculous whistle on the lower AF settings which could also be similar to the Atlantis.

Overall love the tank. If you want a cooler draw and a little higher wattage you could get a drip tip that has a small amount of airflow in it that will allow the Vape to cool at the tip.

Yeah, you are so right. I just tried bumping the Subtank up to 20 watts and it was a much more enjoyable vape. I think I was intimidated by the popping the tank was making at much lower power settings. Once I cranked it up, the popping went away and now I'm getting a nice sizzle. The menthol flavor does hide the honeydew flavor a lot and I definitely do need to lower the nicotine content even more though. After just a few puffs, I can notice a slight headrush.
