Some things were answered in the other thread and some weren't. So here goes:

I was suggested this Joye 510 starter kit. I did some research. It seems to work well and get good reviews. So it is at the top of my list. The problem is ease of use. I really can't picture my mother wanting to fill/measure liquid nicotine through a dropper all the time. How often must his be done on a 510? How long does one fill last. What I am asking is, how often do you have to whip out the dropper and refill if you smoke a pack a day?

Then I came across the KR808D-1. I dont know much about the mechanics of e cigs but this looks easier. So instead of removing something to fill up with liquid, you just pull it out and stick another cartridge in? Is this right? It seems much easier and more convenient. And how much is in one cartridge? Is it equal to a pack of cigarettes?

thanks for any help

First, just in case you don't know. The filling of a cartridge on any cartridge based model - 510, 901, 801 M400 series, etc. is not a matter or measuring liquid nicotine through a dropper. It is just filling a cartridge by dripping it into the filler being used. Cartomizers are a fairly recent development so people, likely older than your mother and younger than you have been using cartridges for, in some cases, over 2 years now. It is not that difficult. That said....

Because of adapters now, you can go two ways. Buy the 510 and get a KR808D-1/cartomizer adapter and she could use either the 510 cartridge or a cartomizer. Or you could buy a KR808D-1 kit and get a 510 adapter to be able to use a 510 atomizer and cartridge.

The cartomizers I've tried (on a 510 with an adapter) have lasted from 1 hour to 2 hours. And I was a heavier smoker than you mom. The 'ymmv' thing is always a factor here because of individual preferences and habits, but I doubt that a pack a day smoker could go a whole day with only one cartomizer. So let's say 2 or 3 a day.

And I'll give you this link only as an example of what cartomizers cost:

Vapor4Life:: Because it's your life :: Electronic Cigarettes & Alternatives to Smoking

IOW - @$10 a 5 pack without shipping. I'm sure there's better deals if you shop around.

With ejuice (where she'd be filling a cartridge) the average use around here is about 20ml/week or @3ml/day. (This, from various polls that have been taken asking 'average use'). You can get a 30ml bottle of ejuice for about the same price as a 5 pack of cartomizers. And again, that price and use will vary but this is just to get you in the ballpark. So ejuice and 510 cartridges would last about a week and a half for the same price as cartomizers would last in @2 days.

Of course that's if and only if, she doesn't resort to filling cartomizers, which is possible with the workarounds people have developed, but then you said you wanted to avoid her having to fill cartridges.

So my advice is that whatever you get, get an adapter for the other model too. If you get the 510, she can see how hard or how easy it is for her to fill a cartridge and also how easy it can be to screw on a cartomizer and then show her the math and let her make her own decision on where to go from there. It's very likely, that if she likes ecigs and they stop her from smoking that she'll be in the market for more and you can get one of each :) But the adapter is the best way to 'try out' various models without having to buy the whole kit each time.

Adapters... there are other vendors but this is just to show you what they look like:
