Vape newb as mentioned. Looking to at least work towards quitting tobacco. Have smoked 1+ packs a day for 30yrs. RYO for the last 5 or so. Started getting interested when I saw BLU, but quickly learned that they are not the preferred brand.

Need some advice, like all other newbs.

Good dependable e-cig with decent battery life. Want a starter kit with multiple chargers, like USB so I can "be prepared".

DO not mind hands-on, like manual filling of cartridges(?).

Am mechanical enough and curious enough to want to try "mods", so something that is versatile.

Like the idea of VG, and will probably want a decent draw - used to smoking semi-strong tobaccos (D&R RYO).

Screwdriver looked cool because of battery life, but I just want quality, so TEACH ME, you vaping GURUS.

Also, how much liquid and supplies would I need to equal a carton of smokes? Not into candy flavors, but willing to try - probably want more of a Virginia Gold type of flavor.

Oh - and HELLO!

I've also just read the thread you started on this topic in the New Member's forum. The sense I get is that you are looking for both a basic education about all this e-cig stuff and a recommendation for a starter kit and e-liquid.

For the education (which won't happen overnight), I refer you to the ECF Library, including my own Wonderful World of Vaping guide. [NOTE: That's the title; I'm not saying that the guide is wonderful.;)] It's pretty long; if you get restless, you can leap to Part 4 for guidelines on choosing your first e-cig model (although Part 3 on e-liquid would be relevant for you as well).

Cutting to the chase: It appears from that thread that you are giving strong consideration to the Joye 510 and eGO (Janty) / Tornado (Totally Wicked). Both are good choices and, in a sense, they are the same model with different batteries, i.e., both use the 510 atomizer. The eGO/Tornado gives it a fatter battery with 650 mAh (milliamp hours) rather than the regular 510's 150 mAh. Unlike you, I am not mechanical (or electrical). What that means to me is that you will get 4 1/3 times as many puffs per battery charge with the eGO/Tornado. Of course, it is more expensive.

Starting with the regular Joye 510 starter kit would not be a bad idea. It would enable you to determine whether the 510 atty is right for you. It is very popular (and deservedly so, the vapor is fantastic), but some vapers (including yours truly) prefer others. Then, if you wanted, you could move up to the eGO/Tornado ... or to an even more powerful mod. All while still using the same atomizer. [NOTE: The mods will give you even greater mAh and many also provide higher voltage, i.e., a more powerful experience.] You don't need to leap to a mod right away. Get your feet wet first.

As for e-liquid, get several small bottles (e.g., 5 ml) of various tobacco flavors. 30 ml will keep you going for a couple weeks.

You know which suppliers sell the eGO/Tornado. Most suppliers sell the Joye510. Any of them carry e-liquid.

Enjoy the adventure, ECITEK!
