I have quickly determined that regular 510 batteries would be insufficient for realistic vaping purposes, even if they are the TW extended ones. Hence, a battery mod is the only solution and I chose Protege because of the size, battery life and great reviews.

The other devices I see mentioned look like great devices and it sounds like they all work excellent, it's just, the size of the Protege is what got me; the portability and the fact it looks less like some kind of illegal paraphernalia for when I whip it out (the vaping device) on some street corner and start huffing away.

Of course a monster for home/office use would be nice, but in that case it might as well have dual atty's attached.

Yes I realize it's just a battery box and a switch, and I could likely pry the connector off an old battery and wire one up to a small flashlight with household parts, etc, though it would be not nearly as elegant of a design, and besides, I have more important things to do - such as vape different flavor combinations and rave on internet message boards about the joys of vaping.

I missed the price change waiting for the 510 adapters, but one has to think that the price must have been too low in the first place, perhaps the initial demand was underestimated. It seems like a chunk of change for one device but since I'm otherwise going to be buying a boatload of regular batteries, a device such as the Protege would be more cost effective. I still ordered some more regular batteries just to tide me over during the wait time.

Greetings fellow Washingtonians!

I have a Protege on the way...maybe today!

I had the same thoughts as you G_Jones and I'm not even a huge vaporer but I was finding I needed to be constantly charging these 510 bats and could have either ordered more or get/make a mod. All the other mods were to big and odd. The other only other contender was the SuperT...

I was actually attracted to the Protege when I ordered my 510s but it was weeks away from shipping and I was done with combustion so I couldn't wait. My 510s can 3 weeks ago today and I have been analog free since then!

I think I hear the mailman.

I have the Protege on the way as well. It was a tossup for me between the Prodigy and Protege - I chose the Protege because it's smaller and more portable. I can only stealth vape at my desk at work and the Prodigy just wouldn't cut it for me. Looking forward to getting my dang Protege! :)

Well, I keep checking every 30 seconds or so... still red lights.

I got 2 attys with my Protege... now I have 8 or so from 3 different places... IV, HG, and now PS.

On the outside the IV attys have a wide gold band while the others have a thin band, just like the batts. The HG and PS attys look the same on the outside but if you look into the atty itself there are differences.

Inside IV and HG attys have a "washer" like thing that surrounds the steel wool looking stuff near where the heating coil is... the IV one is brass colored and the HG on is silverish..

The PS atty doesn't have that washer and the bridge itself is much wider. I decided to give one of the PS attys a shot while I am waiting for the batts to charge (lights still red). Straight out of the box it performs better than any of the others.

That wasn't the mailman yesterday... but he dropped mine off today!

Batteries are charging... I keep looking over my shoulder to see if there are charged yet.

I guess it will take longer then 20 minutes LOL!

When did you order? And do you know if the Janty Stick batts work with the Protege? I know... I should know this or look it up :)

Hey Kent ...

JS batteries are 10440's (same size as triple AAA batts) So, no, they will not work in the Protege. Protege takes 14500 batts (same size as AA)

If you have AAA and AA batt's around, you can see the size difference :)

Mine was nicely boxed and waiting for me when I arrived home today.
It's been said before but wow, this thing is tiny. It appears to be bullet proof in it's build quality... overall at first glance... very cool!
I've been a total fan of my JS and I think the Protege is going to look pretty nice in the garage right next to it.

Shucks, my Protege wasn't in the mail! I had 2 orders that both shipped on 10-06-09. One got here yesterday the other one, containing the Protege, hasn't arrived.

Kevin

Well, I was wrong again. I received the emails at the same time but the Protege shipped a day after the other order. It helps to look at the details.
