Got my provari in today and started vaping my $200 collection of juices I got in earlier than the provari (first time ever). Using a Joytech 510 atomizer and it is working flawlessly. I know that atomizers are supposed to give the purest flavor, and I'm getting insane throat hits and I could feel a pleasurable thump in the back of my throat, but I was underwhelmed by how little taste there was with all the juices.

I tried a couple ECBlends with a flavor shot and i'm just getting a slight HINT of the juices flavor. I also tried Boba's Bounty and I can barely taste a sweetness with a touch of tobacco. I couldn't get any of those graham cracker tastes that everybody was saying, just a hint of sweetness on the exhale. Same with all the other juices I've tried. I imagined a swirl of flavor all over my tongue and I would be able to pinpoint all the subtle flavors, but I couldn't even describe the primary taste of the juice if I never knew what was labeled. Maybe I eat too much flavorful foods and that is what is causing it?

I have this same problem. Every juice I taste, no matter how much extra flavor there is, it just doesn't taste THAT flavorful. I've tried lots of different equipment, thinking that was the problem, but I think it could just be my taste buds now. I do still smoke the occasional cigarette (not often, just when drinking), and I usually eat food that is very salty or spicy. Not sure what the deal is but I've learned to kind of accept it. Can't seem to do much about it anyways.

Both of these sound like "flavor block" to me. Attys shouldn't make that much of a difference if you can't barely taste the juice. Some delivery systems might mute flavor a little, but none will block the flavor or make everything taste the same. Flavor block can be combated by taking a few simple steps.
1) DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. This is paramount. Drink a full glass of water every 1 1/2 hours during the day.
2) Gargle with warm salt water. Make it very salty and as warm as you can comfortably gargle with. It will clean your mouth and the salt will also help neutralize the receptors on your tongue. Finish with a rinse of plain water so no saltiness lingers.
3) Wait it out. Flavor block is common but it doesn't last for ever. Slow down your vaping or at the very least don't waste vaping your favorite juice. Vape your less desirable juices when you have flavor block.
4) DRINK MORE WATER!
5) I haven't tried this but I know that eating artichokes affects the taste buds in a peculiar way which may help some people favorably. After eating artichokes, your tongue will perceive other foods as sweeter. This can help a lot of flavors if the sweetness isn't quite coming through. It will however decrease the perception of sourness so don't eat artichokes if you like sour juices. This is why you can't pair wine with artichokes. It makes all wine taste sweet and throws off the acidity. I think it might make some juices taste yummy.
6) DRINK MORE WATER!

I'm about 15 months into vaping, quit tobacco day one and have vowed to never touch another analogue. Flavor for me however is now secondary, as I can only just taste my juices. Gone is the wow factor that I experienced when I first started vaping. I have introduced quite a few friends into vaping and almost all at some stage have commented on the diminishing taste of their juices. After having spent a small fortune trying different devices and juices from different vendors, I accept that my taste buds (where vaping is concerned) are no where near what they used to be. When I load up with a juice I haven't had for a while, the flavor registers nicely. An hour later it’s barely noticeable. I’m OK with this phenomenon however, as I know that the analogue alternative was killing me.

Don't expect to really appreciate vape flavor until you've been away from cigarettes for at least a few months. It takes time for your taste buds and more importantly your sense of smell to recover.

You could try the strongest flavors such as cinnamon and mint/menthol in the meantime. Tasty Vapor has very potent versions of both.
:thumb: This!

Drink plenty of water as you vape. Vaping causes dehydration and dry mouth, which can also cause issues with taste.

Tip: Exhale some of your vapor through your nose. Our sense of taste is closely related to the sense of smell. You can understand this as true if you remember how food tastes bland when you have a head cold or nasal congestion. So let your nose help you "taste" your flavors.

I have found that fruit flavors have more flavor if vaped below 3.7v. I have barely dripped on atomizers at all, so I can't compare them to cartotanks, but that is what has provided me with the most flavorful vape. I prefer pyrex tanks as the cleanest vape. I also prefer 3 ohm single coil prepunched cartos. I have a list of online vendors that offer pre-punched single coil cartomizers in one of my blog entries below my avatar.

I used Genuine Joye 510's for years(Im a direct dripper)... Since you have a Provari you need to step up you game.... Try the HH357 510 atty... Its a game changer... For the Provari I do recommened the 3.0 ohm version... Your Joyes will seem mild after using HH's.... Dont let the price scare you, HH's can last for several months... When you blow them clear you blow from the end that has the threads..

Yeah besides, it should be a memory even with analogues that when we smoke long enough, their taste diminishes too.

Eliquids and analogues differ in their moisture, the dryness does make the tongue more sensitive to the latter's flavor.

Perhaps your solution may just be to lessen the voltage slightly. The usual tobacco eliquids can hardly match up to their counterpart - however you can try Vermillion River's Kentucky Premium Blend just to give yourself another challenge on that notion.

If you can focus on long term vaping, that'll help too. A little mindset shift goes a long way in setting the expectation. Nowadays I just think - is this setting bearable for long periods? If the answer is yes, I know that I've got an exceptional vape. After all, when I tried analogues from time to time, I realized they weren't that amazing as I thought as well.

You may also either want to make your own juices, or get some sample packs from various vendors. Ive noticed a huge difference in overall flavor quality from one vendor to the next. I'd do some small sample experimenting.

I started making my own liquids recently and its fun. Its awesome to be in full control of the end result.

What a depressing tangent

Cinnamon gum. I'm going to try that or cinnamon hard candies. I vape a lot and I always have water around but don't like the dry mouth thing so I have Carmel and life saver type hard candies a lot and i also have quit caring a whole lot about vaper flavor since I can suck a candy. I need some cinnamon candies now. I guess I should probably get sugar free.
It seems like expecting too much from vape flavors is a exactly right on. In my world when I envision some event and have expectations I'm always setting myself up for disappointment most the time. I mean, when do things really go as planned anyway? Just take it for what it is, get used to it, and there is a lot to get used to, and remember the primary goal is to kick smoking. I used Nicorette gum. That tuff is pretty nasty. They've come out with better but, I didn't smoke. I chewed it or 10 years or so...middle of the night. Gum gum on the bedpost, on te pillw, my clothes in my hair. The point being, it wasnt beautiful but it worked. Vaping will work and it's I n t e r e s t I n g. Don't or get to read the the posts about " my vape smells like urine" is it a deal breaker? Not or me. Nothings perfect

Foo - You know, this is just wild - I've been on a marinated artichoke kick for the past few weeks. I don't know if it's because of the artichokes or simply coincidental but I also seem to have heightened taste sense for all my ejuices. Some I liked before are too extremely sweet for me now. But, overall I haven't found any I cannot taste. It's almost like the polar opposite of flavor block. I'm really enjoying it. Even when I chain vape for an entire day, I do not get flavor block.

I've been vaping for 2 months and could barely taste anything for the first month. Stronger flavors like licorice and menthol got me through the first month. Even now I have trouble tasting the lighter juices. I just got an order from mt.bakervapor all of which I put an extra shot of flavor in and it has helped. It's sad, I love oranges and can't taste any of my 3 orange flavors. Still, given the improvement from last month things are looking up.

I've had periods like this. Times when I taste nothing to tasting everything a little too much. After a surgery I couldn't taste OR smell 'anything' for almost 3 months (foods or nic juices).... that was a horrid time and I ALMOST gave up vaping entirely.

It does seem like 'spicier' meals sort of hamper my taste buds on those days, so vaping my least favorite liquids is what I usually do. I guess a good rule of thumb is save the BEST Juices for the 'great taste' days... ;)

I haven't quite figured out 'why' our senses of taste & smell seem to ebb & flow, but there's an apparent link to many variables based on current health and taste buds.

Here's some information regarding 'loss of taste/smell' that I found on the Internet;

Causes of Loss of Taste Sensation

Brain Tumor
Facial Nerve Problems and Bell's Palsy (Bell Palsy)
Flu (Influenza)
Gum Disease
Parkinson's Disease
Sinus Infection
Sjogren's Syndrome
Smoking
Sore Throat (Pharyngitis)
Strep Throat
Stroke
Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
Aging
Chemical Exposures/Toxins (Insecticides)
Congenital (Inborn) Disorders
Medications
Nasal Polyps
Poor Oral Hygiene
Radiation Therapy to the Head/Neck
Surgical Procedures in the Head/Neck Area
Tooth Decay
Trauma to the Head
Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Here's a link to more info about 'taste disorders' - http://www.medicinenet.com/taste_disorders/article.htm

Be happy & vape on!!!!

IMO a carto tank is gonna provide the most taste out of any system out there besides dripping or a well-tuned (read high maintenance/skill level) RBA.

I like them because I can fill and prime them once in the morning before school or work, blow them out into a napkin and vape away.

I also recommend Pyrex if youre interested in this kind of setup as taste is clearer and you dont have to worry about certain juices cracking your tanks or deal with a plastic taste.

Food is a big part of it with me. I like spicy and flavorful foods. Just the other day I had a sub from subway with their steak and cheese and I had it smothered in onions, jalapenos, and green peppers. Smothered. Naturally, I couldn't taste many flavors for the remainder of the day.

Personally I love spicy foods - I am not willing to sacrifice my love of peppers and hot sauces to enjoy the subtle flavors of my zebra cakes vapor a little more.

I seem to go "tasteless" about 3 days a week. I do love spicy or heavy foods, and it never occurred to me that that could be (at least one of) the cause(s).

Sometimes though, it's like my tongue is just tired of the current juice, or type of juice (especially since I mostly vape tobacco flavors). Sometimes, just switching flavor works for me. If not, I'll try my Marcado (heavy clove, touch of cinnamon). If that doesn't taste right, then it is assuredly ME. Time to jack up the water/fluids.

I do sometimes vape flavors I'm not super crazy about when those times come. Which is how I came to this discovery (it works for me. It may not work for everyone):

I don't really care for menthol much at all. But for one reason or another, I have a few bottles of it. When all other flavors seem dead to me, menthols REALLY shine through. No, menthol isn't my favorite. But if the choice is no flavor, or WHAM! flavor, I'll take the hit. ;) After vaping menthol for the rest of the day, my non-menthols taste better the next day. I don't know why, but it has worked for me.

In fact, I'm doing that right now. I got away with eating Stromboli yesterday, but that pepperoni pizza killed my taste buds. Nothing tastes right. I flipped a coin, and Pink Spot's Frozen Lime won. And damn, it really tastes good (despite the menthol). It's just a shame I can't learn to love menthol. These aren't flavors I'm fond of chain vaping.

ETA: It just occurred to me that my last 2 days make it seem like my diet is all junk food. I assure you it's not. It's just been that kind of day... er, twice in a row. :)
