Hello and thank-you in advance to anyone who responds. Never posted on a forum before so pls bare with me

I'm in Canada and from what I've read I understand ordering the actual ecig from across the border won't be a problem, it's the nicotine juice that should be ordered in Canada to avoid border issues?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm a heavy smoker who, after much reading, is of the opinion that a smaller battery unit may not completely satisfy my cravings. While at the same time in public I think a life like would be better. I guess my question is, Can I buy say a 510 kit and then get mods for say longer battery life and better vapor that will fit the 510 to use at home? Or should I just get a bigger one and save my $$?

Hope I didn't confuse anyone too badly:facepalm:

Welcome to ECF. A bigger battery, like the eGo or Riva, will last longer between charges than a smaller battery like the Joye510. The larger batteries will also allow you to use low resistance atomizers or cartomizers. Both the eGo/Riva and the Joye use the same thread pattern and will accept all 510 threaded devices. Just don't use LR atomizers in the Joye - doing so will reduce the life of the battery drastically. Nor should you use an big battery charger to charge the Joye batteries.

I would get the a better battery model and save the money. Better performance and less hassle than the mini models. Plus, do you really want people to think you still smoke. Most of us like the fact that vaping with an E-Power 510 or a GLV2 or Darwin, they do not look like a cigarette. Plus you get much more positive responses when they don't look like the real thing.

Thanks for the quick replies!
Just watched a review vid on the ego ir306, he seemed impressed for sure. So I would buy a 510 kit then order an additional ir306 atomizer and ego battery? Will this ego battery charge in the same 510 charger? And since It'll be shipped are there any extra parts I should order to have on back-up?

Sorry just want to cover the bases I'm gratful for the help =)

510 refers to the thread size. If you decide to buy a 510 now you can always buy a mod that supports the 510 thread and use your equipment for both. My wife used to use a 510 and now she uses my old Ego which is also 510 threaded. My silver bullet is a 510 thread as well. The 510 is one of the more popular thread sizes out there and there are alot of places you can buy stuff for any 510 threaded device.

I *think* you can charge an ego with the smaller batteries charger but would take a very very long time. Whatever you do, don't do it the other way though;-) don't charge a slim batt with the ego charger.

Most mods are 510-threaded.

Re small ecigs -

The small Joye brand 510 manuals are decent little ecigs with short battery life (180mah or about 2 hours of moderate vaping). The long Joye 510 mega xl manuals are very nice - 280mah for about 3 hours of moderate vaping (up to 5 hours of light vaping) and are 128mm long with a cartomizer. I recommend Boge 3 ohms cartomizers. slim ecigs can be damaged by hotter low resistance attys/cartos (which also would use the charge up faster). I only recommend manuals for slim 510 - the manuals are totally sealed metal on the threaded end, safe from being damaged or kileld by juice leaks - so you can use a drip tip on the atomizer to try juices, it's safe from cartomizer leaks, etc. Manuals also will not turn on accidentally in wind or vibration, and manuals make it a lot easier to get a good hit.

Anything you can put on a small 510 can be use on a 510-threaded mod too but they use their own chargers. Even if you get an Ego or Riva 510 which has a charger cable that looks almost identical to a slim 510 cable - it is NOT identical. A slim 510 cable put outs 150-250mA of power (too slow for charging fat battery 510's) and an Ego or Riva 510 cable is a fast charging cable putting out 420mA (can damage slim batteries, ruining their ability to hold a charge)

In addition, the fat battery models and mods can use low resistance hotter atomizers and cartomizers which could damage the slim batteries. (generally stuff under 2.5ohm)

I use all of these: little manual 510's, mega xl manual 510 (at home), and a 3.7v Riva 510 (the latest Eastmall-made Rivas are 3.7v so they vape the same stuff hotter than the slim 510 or Ego does), 3.7v mod boxes. I'm fine with standard resistance throat hit so I move my standard resistance cartos and atomizers between the devices - they are cooler on slim 510, warmer with more vapor on 3.7v.

Take a look at the Riva 510. If you can order from California, then you can get the kit for $29.95 USD.

For $29.95 you can get a Riva 510 starter kit that contains two complete Riva 510 ecigs with larger 750mah batteries (5 to 6 hours heavy vaping between charges), a cone (dresses up the Ecig), and a charger, along with a nice leatherette box.

The Riva 510 is a 3.7v version of the Ego style ecig (3.4v). It will accept any accessory with a 510 thread. That opens up a multitude of options that you will see discussed here on ECF.

Click the 20% off icon at the top of the page to get the $29.95 price.

It's also available in a Boge carto version for $34.99. You get all the parts in the Riva 510 Lite Bundle along with 10 Boge 510 cartos (a $16 value by themselves).

I thing you should consider the E-Power 14650. Read this and it will give you some good info about it and why it might be a good choice for you to start with.

And if you do decide you like it, def get it from CrystalClearVaping.com. Youll get a free 30ml bottle of juice as well as a free 5pack of the Ressurector Cartomizers. This will let you try some juice and try cartomizers, and you will get free shipping.
Since you said youre a heavy smoker I think you will really like cartomizers. Plus the Ressurector cartos are awesome! Good luck with it!

Edit: I did just realize you said your from Canada. ha sorry. Not sure how that would work with the free juice crossing border. I would talk to the guy from CCV, he has really good customer service and is really helpful

Plus you get to pay the high prices for the proprietary batteries that can only be recharged about 200 times. Or you can get better non-proprietary batteries that last 4 - 5 times longer and only pay $4 for them instead of $14 - $20 for the Riva batteries. The Riva's a good PV but I would rather save the money for the same or better performance that an E-Power 510 (14500 or 14650 battery) gives you.

The small life like ecigarettes do have their place if you don't want to attract too much attention. Egos/Riva/big cigar shaped batteries can look a little druggie to some people that have never heard of ecigarettes. Cigsized 510s tuck in a shirt pocket for stealth vaping in public too. As a heavy smoker you'll be happy to have both and aside from the chargers everything is pretty much compatible.

Great info thanks to everyone love it!

I couldn't take it any longer and ordered the riva 510 kit from liberty flights for super cheap. Including shipping it's still half the price of the canadian sites I found. It comes with the better cartomizers also. I feel I made a good purchase, I guess we'll see! I'll also be crossing my fingers it doesn't find trouble at the border, the cartomizers are empty so.... anyways I also ordered some e liquid from a canadian site. 6x5mL samplers of various flavours of my choice. I ordered 2 of the sets of six which equals 60mL of juice altogether. I don't know how far that will go? One set in 24mg one in 18mg of nic just incase 18 isn't strong enough to keep me.......ummmmm.....not crazy. So altogether just a bit over $100 canadian delivered. I'm really excited!

P.S. I'm reeallly excited!

Pros of a bigger battery:
more mAh so it holds a charge longer

cons:
it's bigger...

Pros of a 510 battery (or other thin batt):
Looks more like a reg cigarette (especially in white)
has a light on the tip

cons:
only about 400+ mAh so about 4 hrs of use.
Looks more like a reg cigarette (especially in white)

Yes I said looking like a real cig was a pro and con. my reason? I like to vape in public and at events which usually have security who love to give me a hard time because there's "no smoking". But I've found that with the EGO battery (or other larger battery) I'm able to tell them it's an inhaler or a personal vaporizer and show them the unit. They usually just shrug and let me go. but with my old dse901 they would spend 5 mins with me asking why it looks like a cigarette and what I'm "smoking" in it.

Beyond the obvious poor performance of the mini (looks like a cigarette) models, the fact that it looks like a cigarette is way more of a "con" than a "pro", from my experience. I'm glad you pointed that out. I get only positive comments using my Darwin about vaping but when I started and had no choice but the mini models, I got mostly negative reactions. Why anyone wants to look like they are smoking is beyond me.
