I want to rebuild this battery, but I have questions!

Hey, there!

I've had this thing for many months, and it has worked more easily with my tanks (EVOD2) than branded batteries like the EVOD, JoyeTech, and Vapor Tech. This is DEFINITELY because I've just had bad luck, and I've grown attached to this small green tube I use to power my vaping. However, when plugged in, the battery will claim to be charged when it is not. Check this picture out:

1) The battery is a 3.7v, which I can easily buy anywhere. 2) There is a chip under the button inside of the tube. So the question is, is the charging issue more likely to do with the chip or the battery?

I ask because I have experience building batteries from individual cells for airsoft guns and RC toys, but only at the most basic level. If the problem is more likely the battery, I want to buy a new one, wire it, and fire it up. If the problem is the chip then, well, I'll continue to search for a battery that works for me.

What do you think?

Back in the bad old days, lots of people would strip out the connector, chip, and button for use in their own home built mods. You could probably put a new tube together that would let you easily swap out the battery using a standalone charger and a decent replaceable cell, etc. Check out the modding sub forum and read/ask questions. If you are really wanting to do it, assuming the chip is till good, it can be done. I personally have build mods like this using the chip and connector from an ego paired with a cheap flashlight. A little soldering, a little epoxy putty, and done.

Yeah, there was a guy who showed how to replace a battery in an Ego but the only battery that fit was a 10440. That one looks like it might be a 14650. They are available but you would probably have to solder your leads directly to the battery which is somewhat risky if you get the battery too hot.

It would be much safer to buy a new battery.

These batteries are NOT intended to be replaced, and attempting to do so may cause some damaging effects. Rechargeable batteries die after a certain number of cycles, or start to have much lower battery life, which is your case here. When that happens, toss the 12 dollar battery and get a new one, it's much cheaper to do that than to attempt to find one and replace it, and it's not worth playing around with and possibly losing an appendage..you're better off to just get a new battery. Either way, I'm sorry about your loss my friend, it's never easy when you lose the PV you became attached to.
