It will take some time, but the people who love you will come around.
Are most of your friends smokers or non?
If they are non-smokers, then this reaction is to be expected.
They realy want you to quit and they don't really appreciate the difference between smoking and vaping.
They think the whole idea is disgusting.

For the time being, your best bet is to stress to them that you are a smoker.
You have a smoking addiction.
And if you could quit easily, you would in a heartbeat.
But it's not so easy!
vaping is much better and cheaper for you and those around you.
Stay Strong! They WILL come around eventually.

The weird thing is is they are all smokers. Even the 2 that said to quit cold turkey. Of course they said that's what they were going to do the first of the year. Maybe they are jealous? They obviously don't understand what vaping is. Another smoker even told me that she heard on the news that e-cigs are really bad for you. Really? Worse than your smoking? The only one that has been supportive is my brother-in-law who doesn't or ever has smoked. He told me to vape in his house! The first day I told Hubby I haven't smoked all day and he said "about time" then hasn't said anything else to me except for seeing me do it is just "weird". I shouldn't expect it though, he isn't one for praise for anything. But I am doing this for ME not HIM! Right! :)

CONGRATS!!!! I'm on Day 7 myself (My exact 1 week mark is in 90 mins). I've been REALLY lucky in having support from Family, Friends, and Work (My boss actually decided to let me vape in my office as much as I want once he learned what it was, and how it worked).
I really wish you were getting better support from those around you, but just remember, in the end, you're doing this for YOU, no one else, and when you kick it, you can honestly say that YOU did it!
I do think "upping" the nicotine is a good idea. Vaped Nic juice doesn't absorb at the same rate or in the same quantity as from a cig, so go with at LEAST the same strength as you were smoking, or just a step lower, and then if you want to cut the Nicotine out, reduce in stages over time. Just remember, if you are going to go with the same strength you smoked analogs at, then use it like an analog...if you are going to vape all day, then go lower so you don't OD on nicotine...in the end, it's trial and error.
Also, try adding some flavor to your nic juice just to switch things up a bit and help break your normal pattern/routine.

Keep up the awesome work Jen, you ROCK!

Hi Jen,
I'm sorry your not getting the support you need, but just think of how much healthier it is to vape. Your family will come around try and explain to them the benefits of vaping tell them there is no harmful chemicals in the e-cig that your blowing out a water vapor that's non toxic. Let them know how much better you feel vaping instead of smoking and that it helps you to not smoke those nasty cigarettes that stink up everything. They just need to understand what an e-cig is and only you can help them understand.
Keep up the good work and happy vaping to you!!:vapor:

WARNING! Snarky, sarcastic responses below!

The weird thing is is they are all smokers. Even the 2 that said to quit cold turkey. Of course they said that's what they were going to do the first of the year. Maybe they are jealous? They obviously don't understand what vaping is.

Jealous and hypocritical. Maybe they have PV envy? I think pacifiers would be more their style.

Another smoker even told me that she heard on the news that e-cigs are really bad for you. Really? Worse than your smoking?

This person might also believe that everything in "The National Enquirer" and on the Internet is true.

The only one that has been supportive is my brother-in-law who doesn't or ever has smoked. He told me to vape in his house! The first day I told Hubby I haven't smoked all day and he said "about time" then hasn't said anything else to me except for seeing me do it is just "weird". Exactly right! It's not for him or even about him and if he doesn't like that he can just cry you a river, build you a bridge and GET OVER IT!

I started with the mall kiosk brand last week...I know, I know...now I know. Waste of money. Thanks to this forum I realized that there were other products out there cheaper and I am waiting on my KR808 to get here this week so I can try again. Luckily I did not invest in refilss for the junk thing...just the initial two that came with it. I understand the freak thing. My boyfriend just up and quit smoking about 5 weeks ago, of course he won't say he has quit...it is just is what it is. Of course, if I smoke I feel like crap now, I can't just quit like that, so I decided to try the ecigs. His response was if you want to smoke, just smoke, if you want to quit, just quit. UGH! How frustrating is that. In the bright side, my kids were very happy. Of course, when I went back to cigs a few days later waiting for my new ecig, they weren't happy and have hassled me ever since.

Like many others have said...do it for you not for them and don't let thier expectations discourage or make you feel like a failure.

Hang in there!! I plan to.

Jen, good job. When your husband puts you down for smoking, hold your head up, and tell him that you have. Actually you have. If he still doesn't like you vaping, tell him to go outside because you don't have to anymore. Vaping isn't smoking.

As far as you feeling like a freak for doing it, don't. Proudly take a toot infront of your friends and blow smoke rings.

YOU are doing this for YOU and noone else!!! Don't let people, including your husband, tell you what you can and cannot do. Stand your ground firmly. I would DARE my husband to tell me anything. I don't drink but he does (I have a mixed drink on holidays and that's it). Everytime my smoking became an issue with him, alcohol got thrown right back at him.

Does your husband have any bad habits? Well, if so, tell him what he needs to do to change. If he complains, give him a quarter and tell him to call someone that will listen.

Don't give up and get yourself some higher nic. After I have now gotten myself worked up over ignorant people who refuse to understand us....WHERE'S MY 36MG BOTTLE!!!!

Sorry for the rant...I'll get off the soapbox.

Quitting smoking is the hardest thing in the world, Non smokers don't understand never will, they don't understand the need to smoke they sure as heck don't understand how hard it is. When I made the switch I made it for me, not my husband or my kids. It was something I wanted to do. Do I still crave the real thing you bet, Sometimes it is a awful craving, to settle it I put a flavour that is hard hitting in the EC and go for it.

I can do this was and is my motto, I feel better, I smell better and I don't have to excuse myself to go smoke. Jen do it for you and tell your self every morning that Good Job because after all it is you who is doing this.

PS had my first winter cold, and you know what it didn't move to my chest and I didn't have a cough

Thanks again guys. I'm waiting for a new shipment of juice but I might order more with 18mg instead of 12mg. I think I might go ahead and order the Riva too. I'm still craving analogs and I'm sure it's all mental. It is defiantly easier than when I tried to quit cold turkey. I don't think I ever lasted over 24hrs before. ;)

Jen,

You will love the Riva:) I got mine from Liberty Flights for $30!!

And I've never gone 30 days cig free in 30 yrs! Finding the right strength and flavor has made it EASY to not smoke! I'm serious- it's been 100% easy! If I am jonesing really bad and it's only happened like 4 times in 3 months, I break out the 18mg and drip two drops on my atty and it instantly calms me down. I vape 12-14 mg juice normally. Just make yourself one special juice for those "911" times. Mine is eggnog flavor in 18mg and I don't vape eggnog any other time.

Your emergency juice might need to be 24mg though. If the 18mg doesn't stop the panicky feelings, order a small sample of 24mg. LIberty Flights has samples for $2.39 a piece so order one in 24mg- just in case. If it makes you dizzy, it's too high a strength:)

The Riva was my first PV and the only thing that really got me off the analogs. The minute I started using it I knew I could quit smoking. I started out with 18mg juice, but I was still having cravings so I bumped it to 24mg. Now I vape both. Whenever I feel that "need" for an analog I whip out the 24 and few hits later the craving is gone. I vape 18mg the rest of the time.

You'll be very happy with the Riva, I promise you! It's called a "fat batt", but they really aren't that big and they last all day!

Just a side note observation: I've watched how this thread has grown and all the support pouring out from it. It really is a wonderful thing, people. <3

Hi Jen and welcome to ECF. A huge congratulations to you for your success so far, and I'm not just saying that to "make you feel better" (although I hope it does). Because of the environment you have at home with absolutely no face-to-face support has made what you are doing even harder than it was for me, so I REALLY mean it when I say "congrats". Luckily for me, my hubby has been on this ride along with me so we have a lot of support for each other. My mother-in-law lives with us and has been extremely supportive, and a non-smoker friend of mine has been incredibly supportive too.

The only person that has met my news of "I've quit smoking, now I'm vaping" with a less-than-fully-supportive response was my dad. All he really said was "that's great you've quit the cigarettes, and soon you'll stop that other stuff too". LOL! I guess we just want our loved ones to be as proud of us as we are of ourselves. You just want them to be happy for you and share in your success. But we have to accept that some of "them" just don't understand and may never understand. Just don't let the naysayers get to you and make you pick up an analog - if you do that, they win and your health loses.

Just hang in there, Jen. You have come so far already, and it will only get better from here. WE are all behind you 110%.

So I've been vaping for like 11 days. I love that I don't have to go outside to smoke, I don't reek of cig smoke and not stinking up my car anymore. I'm just not fully satisfied. My husband, who has been trying to get me to quit smoking for 15 years, hasn't been very supportive of my vaping. He hasn't said anything encouraging to me and just said he don't care for me vaping in the house. All of my friends and family just look at me like I have 2 heads and say "why don't you just quit smoking?". I kinda feel like a freak vaping. I haven't even got one "good job" from anyone. I wish I could just stop everything but it's just not that easy for me.
I Know there is some one here 24/7 to help both of ya'll.Don't give up.

I understand where youre coming from Jen. Half of my family has always looked down on me for smoking. But when they found out i was switching to e-cigs, they were atleast somewhat supportive and happy about it! I would not just quit smoking all together, at least ween yourself off of nicotine slowly. I have a 15 month old son, and when i found out i was pregnant, we stopped smoking in the house all together. But real cigarettes started making me nauseas at times and give me a headache. So my fiance and i decided to buy our e-cigs a few weeks ago and we love it. We will smoke ours ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE! people will look at us like we have 2 heads (as your family does you) but we do not care! We are PROUD to be using something healthier!! I am still smoking about 3-5 real cigs per day still...but i was smoking a pack a day, so im doin good!! Keep your head up and be confident and positive! they will get used to it. and explain to them how much healthier it is and how it has no smell and how it can reverse alot of damage done previously. AND how it is said to help quit all together!!!
Good Luck Jen!!
