So, I have both a mech and a couple of APVs. I was loving the 1.1-1.3ohm range for my builds on my mech, so I rebuilt my ProTank heads to that spec as well. I was liking it a lot, until I remembered that thinner wire heats faster, and is more 'responsive'. I rebuilt a PT head with 32ga, 11 wraps at 2.9 ohms. I thought that this would decrease performance.. but with the variable wattage on my APVs, the vape is actually BETTER, and it fires instantly when I press the button.

Good thing wire is cheap, and I have plenty of time these days because I have a new project... to rebuild all of my Kanger heads with 32 ga... I may even try 34 just to see how it performs.

Lessons always learned.. whats great on a mech is not necessarily great with VV/VW. Lowering the resistance was also limiting my range of adjustment. Having a higher resistance, I can truly get the full range from 6-15 watts on my ZMax, and to 11 on my MVP.

Experimenting is the best! I've tried every different variation of micro coils I can think of on my mechs and my regulated to devices and I still learn things all the time. The physics behind vaping are very interesting and the small variances make a much bigger difference than I would have ever expected when I first started rebuilding.

Speaking of physics, one of the more interesting things I'm starting to learn about is the size, shape, and placement of your wick in a dripper. I use cotton, so I have a ton of flexibility when it comes to how I want my wick to be. It's amazing the difference that's made when you just move wet cotton around and alter the airflow a little bit. If you've ever heard of the nano dragon coil, it's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. The placement of the cotton literally is the difference between an awful vape and one of the more enjoyable vapes I've ever had.

It's most definitely a learning curve. I started with 32 gauge on my mini protank 2 and evods. But when I started dripping I kept using the 32 gauge and the coils looked OK, not great. When I started using the 28 gauge for my drippers I was surprised at how much nicer they vaped for me and they look a whole lot nicer. I've yet to try any of the really complex builds but one day I will try it. The nano dragon looks impressive. I like the nanos because you don't have to wick through the center on them. Just get your cotton underneath so it makes good contact and your set.
