That's a pretty broad assumption. The company (illumn) you are referring to is a very reputable and stand up company, in fact here's a link to a post made by them when they found out that they had received a batch of counterfeit batteries from one of their suppliers. This was their response:

Illumn PSA: New counterfeit VTC5 batteries : electronic_cigarette

It doesn't get much better than that so I HIGHLY doubt that they are selling fake Sony VTC4 batteries let alone seeking out a 'steady counterfeiter' as you implied.

I have no knowledge of or experience with that company prior to reading the link you provided. I do know VTCs haven't been manufactured in a long time though and I know they are widely faked. Given the demand and manufacturing status that's a very alarming claim for them to make TO ME. You get to draw your own conclusion based off your different experiences and knowledge.

On the other hand I do have experience with inTaste.

is this a good site? (no counterfeits or fake)?
I have no knowledge of that site. I'll only mention that the Samsung25-R that they show pictured here appears to have a green wrapper, while the genuine Samsung25-R has a light blue wrapper. It may well be an image-quality issue with the website; still I'd be wary unless you contact the vendor and ask what the color of the battery is.

IMREN 18650/40 AMP/ 2500 mah
I can almost guarantee that 40 amp rating is a "pulse" rating, and not the more standardly used "continuous" discharge rating. Beware of companies which advertise pulse ratings for their batteries without also advertising the continuous ratings (ie Efest). There are NO 40 amps continuous discharge rated 18650 batteries.

Continuous Discharge Ratings vs Pulse (Burst) Discharge Ratings:

The "continuous discharge rating" in amps is the standard specification for amp limits within the battery industry. It is a determination made by the manufacturer and represents the amp limit a battery can be safely used before it will fail.

The "pulse or burst" discharge rating is not a specification standard within the battery industry. Every manufacturer or vendor seems to have their own definition of what the pulse rating is, so this spec becomes useless when trying to compare one battery to another.

A pulse discharge rating is any use above the continuous discharge rating. It is never safe and not within the intended operating parameters of the battery. You should not operate your device above the continuous rating if you can help it. The pulse rating is a condition in which the battery is on basically a buildup to failure. It is exceeding the sustainable and intended discharge rate of the battery. It is inappropriate for a consumer device to operate in the pulse range of its battery.

Which would be why we shouldn't rely on any pulse rating. Any failure, mechanical or electronic, that fires the mod will operate in the 'continuous' mode. If your setup relies on a pulse rating, it's instantly over spec.

If your amp draw is safely in the continuous discharge range, your coil could act almost like a fuse and burn out before the battery is stressed. If you are already running the battery at the edge of it's limits (pulse), there is no margin of safety.

Yellow 18650 MXJO 35 Amp (Continuous according to my local shop) batteries are great. 2500mAh life and they seem to hit harder than my VTC4 in my mods. Also great for if you choose to go even lower on the resistance. Not too sure what constitutes a resistance that would cause a hard short, but according to steam engine, you could go down to .14 and be at 35A at 4.1V

That battery has a 20 amp continuous rating. 35 amps is the pulse rating. See here.

I'd begin to question the validity of anything your vape shops says from now on. :glare: Attempting to fire a 0.14 ohm coil using that battery would be potentially catastrophic.

Don't let this happen:

The Imren 18650-40 AMP battery has a 25 AMP continuous discharge rate.
So when first recommending this battery you stated it was 40 amps.

It's extremely important to differentiate pulse vs continuous discharge ratings for batteries to be used in vaporizers, especially if those vapers might be building coils below 0.3 ohms.

I was not able to find any vendor who actually stated the continuous discharge rating for an Imren battery. For all that I know, Imren is behaving like Efest did before they were called out for advertising the pulse rating instead of the continuous rating. This business practice is irresponsible and dangerous. Do you have a link that shows this battery is 25 amps continuous?
