fright,

most of the people going through their wire/wick so fast are doing so for different reasons.

1.) Having a hard time making the coils/wicks thus causing a lot of scrap. OR
2.) Didn't get the ohm of the coil where they wanted it. OR
3.) wanted to try a different ohm of the coil to see what the taste, vapor and TH would be like. OR
4.) Tried something silly like I did with a 1.3 ohm coil @ 7.4 volts. Omg that Vaped liked crazy until I forgot to add liquid. OR

5.) Experimentation. OR

6.) Any combination of 1-5 above.

Sounds good keep us updated. My iatty is taking an eternity to be delivered but hopefully I can try it soon. I am mostly asking because I see soo many people already out of wire wicks ect. Anyways thanks guys

I haven't had the iatty for even a week and I've almost ran out of wiring (two experimental ohms, one broke). I have lots of resistive wire left, but very little non-resistive.

Since the non-resistive wire uses 20cm per coil, and the resistive uses only 5cm.. perhaps the iAtty should be shipped with more non-resistive wire.

4meters of non-resistive and 1meter of resistive would balance it out. That would be great even if it costs a little extra.

Why are you using so much NR wire with each coil? 20 cm is about 8 in

The video's mention 10cm per non-resistive wire. What length do you use?

I probably cut off 3-4cm so perhaps 6-7cm is safe?

Even so, the ratio is still larger so I think 2 meters of non-resistive wire should be supplied for balance.

10cm per side is about right, I do not cut that much off after fitting. I reckon you could get down to between 6cm-8cm, maybe.

*Edit. Why am I disagreeing with the man, :) yes ideally, with perfection, you can get it down to 5cm.

You said in the video "10cm so we can have room to work". I suppose it is up to us to fine tune our coil making skills.

I went through the first included wire pretty fast. I would recommend getting plenty of supply's.
I for one have made at least a dozen coils since getting my iAtty. For one reason or another there are plenty of reasons to make another one. Since the cost is really cheap, all the more reason to play.
my favorite today is a twisted 34 ga. no-wick coil w/wick on top, 2.6 ohm at 6.4 volts, vaping 100% VG. So far this has been my favorite.
Ive tried 3.7 volts 1.5 ohm single coil w/wick, 1.4, 1.8 at 3.7 volts and 6.4.
4 ohms at 6.4 and 7.4 volts.
The variables are endless, as long as you have supplies, and time to twist a coil.

interesting note: I find it much easier to see the wires with a white back ground when making a coil.
another note: be careful to get all of the resistance wire in the ceramic cup if possible.

Not sure... but for me I'm getting a strange taste pretty quickly, less than a day of use.

I am getting a strange taste too, like a bitter overpowering taste or something. I'm guessing I'm not doing something right but can't figure it out. It's not too much voltage because I always use relatively low volts (like 3.9v for 2ohm).

Others seem to be doing fine. I have sensitive taste so maybe the fiberglass wick is the cause? I have plenty of CE2's so maybe I'll try some of that wick and see if it changes anything. The coil is completely within the cup so it can't be that, unless the variant of nichrome is causing it.

Edit; I think I know what it is, the cone was screwed in a little too much. I unscrewed the cone a bit and now it's not too bad.
The initial cone adjustment can take 10 minutes or so, and if the wick overburns too much during that time, the strange dry burn taste sticks around even when there is plenty of juice flow. I guess next time I'll leave the cone unscrewed more so it floods initially and then work my way in.

I guess since I asked the question I will post my results in case anyone else is wondering. (Although I am about as late as they come) I made my first coil and wick on Monday when I got my iAtty. Made it with the wick inside the coil. after a couple days started to get a burnt taste. When I took it apart the coil was in great shape but the wick was pretty burned up. Trying with the replaceable wick method to see if that helps any.

I decided to switch flavors yesterday, and only have enough to make one or two more coils (hoping this weekend to go out and find more), but that thing was pretty gunked up after a couple days of use. Still worked pretty well though, I did a dry burn (as I did in the past with CE2) and it came off without a problem.

I found with mine, it wasn't the wick that Imeo included. I had a juice that really loved to caramelize, and then turn to 'black Jack' (sugar burns past caramelization and turns to carbon) With other juices I didn't have this problem. It would give it a bad taste, and led me to believe it was the wick in the beginning. But YMMV :)
