iClear 30 swivel tip issues

I just got two iClear 30's in and they've just been a nightmare. All they do is gurgle and leak. At first it seemed like the wicks were TOO good and I was just sucking juice into the air path, and the coil couldn't keep up with it, so the juice just dumped out the bottom.

After some fiddling though I think I've actually traced the issue to the wonky tip on top..

I've got this thing on an Ego twist at 4.2v, with a 1.8 ohm head. I get barely any vapor, non-existent flavor, and nothing but leaks. It's also a *very* airy draw, to the point that I'm cranking the device down as far as it'll go to try to tighten it up some. I noticed something though. If I take the tip off, and just put the damn thing in my mouth and suck... wow. Vapor like crazy, and tons of flavour! Put the tip back on, and it's just air.

I've tried cranking the tip as much as possible, but it makes no difference. Has anyone else noticed this? If I use these things with no tips and just suck on them they're fantastic, even if I feel a bit silly. Is there some sort of mod I can do to fix this? Use some other sort of tip? I feel like I've gotten a taste of what they can do, but as shipped.. it won't do it.

This is a longshot but...
A lot of people don't know it, but the outer (bottom) part of the swivel also screws apart, if you look closely you can see the seem. Perhaps it is just loose enough to be leaking air.
