Icon Batteries

I saw on a thread on this forum stating that AW14500 batteries can be used in the Icon-is this true? Are they protected or not protected batts?

*Are these the same batteries sold on the PS site? The PS site states these batts DO NOT
work in the ICON. So, do they or do they not work with the Icon?

*Is there a full kit price to order these protected batts since they may be slightly more?

I am confused.

*Whats the difference in IMR AW 14500 600 mAH (Red), and AW 14500 black, and AW P 14500 etc etc.
Is there a BR-549 Junior Samples batt too?

*Can someone list the batteries and chargers that can be used with the Icon.
* Is each one protected or unprotected? What are the advantages of each?
*Can the multicharger on the Icon site be used with any of the other batteries that can be used in the Icon? *Which ones specifically?

I am really more interested in the protected batteries more than the unprotected batts at this point working wiht the Icon.
I saw a thread by Steve that stated some type of protected batt worked if you removed the washers, but still confused, as it stated the batteries dont work with the Icon on the PS website .

Sorry, I guess am just used to Energizers.

Is the Icon vented or unvented?

Hi dd,
I am the vendor of the ICON (and Prodigy V3) in the UK and I'll try to answer your question.

The red IMR14500 are a different chemistry and do not require a separate PCB for protection since they do not vent explosively as ordinary li-ion batteries can do under certain (rare) conditions. For this reason, they are smaller than protected 14500 batteries and fit the ICON beautifully. They also have a greater current draw tolerance, which for our purposes means that they will last us for many more charges and discharges than we might experience with standard li-ion batteries, since atomisers draw more current than standard batts are actually rated for.

The black AW P14500 batteries are a high quality protected battery that are manufactured to tighter size tolerances than some other protected 14500 batteries. As such, they can also be used in the ICON but you will need to remove the washers from the ICON button mechnism.

Hope that helps you.

P.S. The ICON has two vents on the underside in the button mechanism.

So, the black AW P14500 is the only batt we know of for certain that will work with the Icon?

Is there a kit for this? In other words is there a way to order the charger and this batt with the base and atty as a kit instead of ordering all the parts separately?

Will the website be updated top reflect that these WILL work with the modification so others can use the protected batts?

Thanks

No, no kit for it. However, if you want the AW's instead of the Tenergy, order a full kit and an extra maintenance kit ($4.99) to make up the difference in battery prices, and we can switch them out for you :)

We only specify when need be. If we put all the configurations our devices can do on our website, it will confuse people even more :) Less is Better unless asked!

AW makes the AWP14500. AW is the manufacturer, short for Andrew Wan. They are made in China. If you are considering the 14500 cell for vaping, I would encourage you to use the AW IMR14500 rather than the P14500, because the amperage drain associated with any standard or low resistance atomizer is better suited to this battery in the 14500 size/category. And yes, you can charge them individually or simultaneously using the Tenergy/Trustire TR-001 Multicharger.

Thanks Bugg,

I already ordered and received the AW P14500(charging now). I use a "regular" 510 ejoy atty
( not sure what the diff is between the different attys). Will the aw p14500s affect this atty?

Can one batt be charged at the time or do both in the charger at same time in order to charge a batt?

Now I am trying to find the thread with instruction for removing washers for the aw p14500s.

Any 510 type atty including low resistance ones are fine to be used with the AW IMR14500.
Your standard Joye 510 atty should be fine with the AW P14500 but the IMR14500s are preferable with all atomisers (IMHO).
To remove a washer, gently take the spring off the button mechanism, unscrew the contact screw and you will see two washers in there, one flat one and one lock one, try removing the lock washer first and putting everything back together again and seeing if the "throw" is correct on the switch for the P14500.

Thanks Lisa I just finished .
Screw came off with a small pair of pliers
Mine had 2 flat washers and 1 lock washer. When these were removed, the AW P14500 worked fine.

Do you know if the batteries can be charged single or do they have to be charged in pairs with a Tenergy charger?
