Another thing I'm sensing socially is that the huge, ever-growing anti-smoking sentiment has essentially become an anti-SMOKER vibe. Witness the growing number of employers gleefully refusing to even hire smokers. It's the last group (along with the obese and illegal immigrants, I suppose) that people feel free to openly hate and abuse.
Some people seem to have a religious zeal for just slamming one segment of the population or another. Maybe it's insecurity (Well, at least I'm not one of *those* people).
The idea that smokers might simply switch to vaping frustrates all of that. So now we're seeing e-cigs simply tacked onto anti-smoking bans without explanation or thought.
You'd think anyone who truly objects to smoking, or worries about its effects, would be thrilled to hear that smokers are switching to a clean, smokeless, spit-less, odorless alternative that should bother no one, but the perverse need to control, resent, and punish others seems to be winning out in many cases.
