I will likely cry myself to sleep for many nights if nicotine were to be banned. However, I live in Colorado and we recently legalized umm... other recreational uh... stuff. I only mention this because it seems unlikely that nicotine would be banned here in Co and mean while the "other" is now being sold at retail. this also leads me to believe that like other substances similar to nicotine it too (nicotine) could quite easily be extracted. I don't think nic will be leaving us any time soon. Long live vapors

I still have 2 litres of 100mg/ml PG base nicotine, and 2kg. powdered form. That, I figure is enouigh for YEARS of production. I'm ready for the ban. I figured that is the place they will unltimately ATTACK in order to shutdown the e-cig. industry. HOW EVER, I am a Research Physicist, and as such, have Many and varied Hazardous, toxic, even radioactive materials in MY lab. Makes it easier to get my hands on Powdered nic. though that, should ONLY be in the hands of a qualified chemist, and mixed into a relatively low concentration base, before being distributed to anyone. I even wonder about the wisdom of just ANYbody being able to buy a nicotine base. I have seen high school grads, that have the math skills of a box of rocks, trying desperately to figure out ratios, concentrations and that type of thing, than come over, and ask me, as they, for the better part, know what I do. I ALMOST think, a class should be offered in Community colleges in mixing these chemicals, where math skills are "upgraded to that, that is necessary", and the formulas for figuring out concentrations, ratios, etc. are presented, and tested on. Lots of labs. (as in class Labs), PRIOR to being allowed to purchase a Nicotine base product "Non flavored", or > than 24mg/ml
NOTE: I Do NOT see myself as the "Know it all" of chemistry". But, after so much education, and practical experience I SHOULD know SOMETHING! Nor, do I see myself, as the guiding "Conscience" of the mainline juice mixer! Just a guy who worries about his fellow vapers, after seeing so MANY horrid mistakes made, that have ended very nearly in death.

What would the options be for the vape community ?? I for one wouldn't want to EVER go back to Smoking cigs.. Could we extract it at home DIY style?? Anyone have any ideas ? -Dave

If nicotine were unavailable that would just pave the way to put 'other' things in your eliq.

Ever one to snub the gub'mint every chance I get (trying to figure out how to make my own incandescent light bulbs now), I'd turn to making it myself. Armani-wearing knuckleheads 1500 miles away who couldn't find their own asses with a search and rescue team have no business telling me what to do with my own body. And if I manage to successfully make my own, excess would find good loving homes without a doubt.

I am a free man. I will live like a free man. I will BE a free man.

Can you tell us a bit about that powdered nicotine? I bet I'm not the only one wondering.

As far as mixing goes, there are some really good online calculators dedicated to the purpose.

It almost feels like they are determined to pick on us...It was never supposed to be about taxation, the steep taxes were supposed to be a deterrent for a particularly unhealthy habit and to help offset potential health care costs ....So now we're living a healthier lifestyle and still being badgered by threats of likely intervention. It just seems terribly unfair sometimes :(

sadly that is all a smokescreen ... raising taxes on cigarettes do not help many people quit and BG knows that ... it's all about the money.

I fully expect BG to hand vaping over to BT with the promise of huge tax revenue :glare:

Yes, you CAN extrract Nicotine "at home", given the definition of "At home" ;-). I'll not explain the process, but, I'm SURE it's out there. Some large cauldrons, a couple chemicals, some dangerous alkaloids, watch it, purify it, and your there, or dead. BTW, Virginia, and NC tobacco seem to have the highest percentage of Nicotine per unit area of leaf (tobacco that is).
Don't know anything about the "Other elixers" if that is what the one gentleman was referring to in his post after my last. I'm 67 now, I guess I'm just too darned old to pick up on that stuff. I never saw ......... Until I was in Vietnam, and as I was a USMC Capt., in Intel., I "Gave it a pass". On the box every so often you know............Have to be able to pass, or lose my commision. So, instead I lost a leg, part of another, and broke my neck. (Russian 152mm shells were Hell).

Not even. Illegal. I had it for another purpose. I have not used it for this purpose, as I am not SURE it is legal to do so. Considering the circumstances under which I procured it. Legally, but NOT for human consumption. For other reasons. I am trying to get a decision now, I WILL let you know, as soon as I am given an "It's legal for use signal" by the proper authorities. I KNOW it can be obtained, and IS obtained by a couple BIG mixing businesses, does not make it legal, I can't afford to get tied up in a fur ball.
But, as I said, IF and WHEN I get a go signal, I will tell u anything you want to know about it. Also, I happen to know, several other members of the Res. I am now residing on, and commuting back and forth from, read this forum, and would LOVE to see me step in something smelly. Love, as in LAUGH!
