Over eight years ago, I smoked ~1.5Pk/day. I was not trying to quit smoking when I started vaping. I wanted an option for those times/places that smoking was prohibited or frowned upon. Anyway, over the next several weeks, I began using the e-cig more and more, and subsequently smoked less and less. The final week or so I decided to make a go of leaving the stinkies behind. It was hard to break the cycle of a couple of "mandatory" smokes, but I wavered between 1-3or4 smokes per day. Then, at the end, I carried an open pack of smokes in my pocket for a week without lighting one. At that point, I admitted to myself, "Dang, I must not be a smoker anymore." I still enjoy a random rare cigar on a couple holidays, but cigarettes are am absolute NO.

Funnily enough it wasn't that hard for me to quit completely when the husband continued smoking. I just approached it with the attitude of, "There is NO place on earth where I CAN'T procure cigarettes, so whether they are 2 feet from me or drive to the convenience store, there is no difference."

Perhaps if the government has its way, temptation will be removed, although I don't think they really EVER want to see smoking go away.

I was worried I would think he stunk so bad I could not be around him but fortunately my dad smoked when I was little so I find the smell sort of comforting, on him, anyway. Sometimes, I will just grab him, hug him and take a GIANT sniff. It can be quite calming, for me anyway.

I did kind of make the vow that I was not going to judge ANYONE for being a smoker, just because I quit. It's not like I did not smell terrible/spend money on smoking/smoke around others, etc. I just was like.. "F that." I still enjoy the smell of FRESH cigarette smoke wafting from a cigarette most of the time.

However, stress smoking is my Achilles heel, it really can be tough. I don't think I do it much anymore the intervals keep getting longer as I vape. Maybe 6--8 months?

I keep a pack around for my stress smoking. It's not like I want to smoke them otherwise, they are not tempting. And, if I am THAT stressed (I really have to get to 11) it's probably really not smart to be driving.

They taste like dead horse, because the pack is so old, but I don't really care. I am usually to the point where I'm like, "Censored you, God, and I hope this is the one that KILLS me."

Yeah I try not to get to that place too often.

I'm still smoking approximately 5 cigarettes a day. So I guess I'm a dual user? Perhaps one day I'll be able to put down the cigarettes. Stress that's the trigger at least for me
Ya, me too ~ stupid stress ~ guess my new official moniker is "Dual User"!! Unless there's a better name??

Good post and the snippets pasted very much apply to me, especially when going out, and smell someone smoking.

I keep an emergency pack in the freezer but like some said this might be unnecessary because: a) you might avoid lighting up altogether if there's none available, and b) stores are pretty close if urges get to that point.

I have cigarettes around me a lot of the time anyway. I don't sweat the occasional 6--8 month cigarette and frankly they appear to be dissipating on their own.

I reserve the right to self-harm (that is really what smoking is) if something horrible happens to me or a family member, but I think I've vaped too much for too long to really....

I would have to work at smoking more than one cigarette I think. They are truly disgusting.

Easier said than done when you have a wife that smokes. I can't be around cigarettes. It's like looking at a lobster tail but not being able to eat it. I'm a hopeless addict

Exactly...My wife still smokin' a pack a day plus the fact most of my good friends still smoke. If I'm all stressed out that just adds to the likelyhood of me saying gimme one.

I went from 40 cigs a day to zero right away. Then my only vape at the time decided to die. I went into "panic mode" and bought a pack mostly because I had no option. I quickly found out you need a backup, spare coils, etc. I did finish that pack though but have been smoke free since, almost 3 months now.

I really rarely get tempted and I have cigarettes around me all the time. I think it depends on your motivation honestly. I knew (and KNOW) every cigarette I smoke brings me closer to COPD.

I will say my only panic time was when I relapsed like, right after my 1 year anniversary and I just had a HARD time stopping. I upped my nic and was able to, but it was getting frightening.

As I said, the ones I smoke are when I ACTIVELY want to die, and that's pretty rare. I got through my whole plumbing ordeal with a pack sitting in my kitchen and one with three cigs in it in my car.

I had to be motivated and disciplined to avoid the oxygen tank.

I smoked a pack and a half a day of cigarettes for around 40 years.

Decide to switch to vaping. Started with a high nicotine level in a small disposable that was mostly around 50mg/ml. Stopped smoking and started vaping with that. The first couple weeks were the worst as I still wanted to smoke but I didn't.

I has been a multi year journey with different equipment but I am currently vaping 1.5 mg/ml nicotine and have zero desire to smoke.
