Here is some basic information for those who don't have have an ecig or pv.

1. They are an alternative, not a quit smoking product.
Although a LOT of users have had success within days to 1 week. Others, a couple months to switch to completely ecigs. Others have enjoyed vaping between 1-2 years.

2. The 510Manual Button and KR808D are the current top 2 models that "resemble" a cigarette by far.
Other top models include what we call "mods". They aren't slim and look like cigarettes, but are much bigger and hold battery charge for more hours.

3. A PCC (Personal Charging Case) is highly recommended for anyone.
It is a travel case you take with you, that keeps your pv/ecig battery charged. There are no PCCs for mods.

4. Batteries and atomizers don't last forever.
With a little cleaning and regular use, the average is 2-3 months. It is recommended to have a couple spares of each at all times.

5. As of 4 years to date, there has not been any harm major reported.
Small side effects such as initial coughing or normal phlegm is normal. You may just be adjusting to being more clear.

6. Once you've got your unit of choice, and like it... Share and tell others.
Share what you have found, we have to band together and spread the great find.

7. ENJOY VAPING!

FWIW, if you were a heavy smoker consider getting a higher voltage device like a Chuck or Prodigy.

I got a bunch of people at work into vaping and 4 out of 5 when back to smoking because the KR808 just didn't cut it for them.

5-6 volts is a lot more like analog smoking than taking a 10 second drag off a 3.7 volt PV.

If I know what I know now I would never have wasted my time on the basic KR808, 510 kits, etc...

Nice post. I would just add that as a first purchase, also purchase one sample bottle of tobacco flavor and one sample of a flavored. When I first purchased, i didn't order any e-juice, b/c i thought the carts would last. they didn't, and i was back to smoking analogs and frantically awaiting my purchase of e-juice in the mail.

Also, as for spare parts, it seems more cost efficient to me to just buy two of the $35 starter packs from Cignot. That way you have a backup wall charger along w/ 4 batt, 4 attys, 10 carts. Sweet!

Also, a recommendation for a first order.. Dont order all HIGH strength juice.. especially on 510 or high voltage unit.
Some people who get HIGH get knocked off their feet when they realize the direct hit. Start lower and work your way UP to what works.
If the LOW or MED isnt enough for you, at least you can save it for weaning back off.

What I tell people is this:

The strength of the juice should relate to the strength of the cigarettes you smoked, NOT the number of cigarettes you smoked.

If you were a chain/pipe/cigar smoker, get the 36mg+ juice.
If you smoked high nic (Reds, Camel Filters...), get the 24-26mg juice.
If you smoked Lights or a brand with less nic, get the 18mg juice.
If you smoked Ultra lights or a Light version of a less nic brand, get the 11mg juice.
If you smoked Carlton Ultras or some other extremely low nic cigs, get the 6mg.

That way you have the right amount of "puffs" in a cigarette to get your usual dosing of Nic. You satisfy both your need for nic and the "hand to mouth" routine.

I often hear people talk about Nic level with regards to how much you smoked... But I was a pipe smoker who had 2-3 bowlfuls a day. By that, I was a very light smoker. However, low nic didn't do anything for me. It's about how much nic I was used to getting in a "session" of smoking. If I sit down and puff my e-cig for 15 minutes I need to get as much nic as I got puffing on my pipe for 15 minutes for it to be as satisfying.

Personally I'd recommend the opposite. If you order all high you can always cut it down by adding a little pg or vg (commonly available in stores), but if you order low it takes more to increase the dosage in the event it isn't enough nicotine for you.

Good point...

Especially if you have no immediate plans for weaning off.

I started on a 510 manual six months ago after discovering and reading these forums and it was fantastic. Two friends of mine, former heavy smokers like me, were able to immediately switch over to the 510 from regular cigarettes without needing to "cheat". I also insisted they use the dripping method as well from the start, which I am sure helped as it provides a much better experience than carts.

Dripping isn't much of a bother, and in the long run seems a lot simpler than fiddling with re-filling cartridges, and provides much better vapor.

From my experience after months of stock 510 use, a second 510 starter kit or just extra batteries and a charger is a much wiser purchase than a PCC. The PCC works, but you could fiddle around and attempt to re-charge a couple of 510 batteries in it while out and about, or instead carry two or more extra charged batteries, a much simpler and easier solution.

Nowadays I will be insisting people buy an Ego/Tornado to start (and extra atomizer(s) and juice) instead of a stock 510 kit. The initial investment is more, but it is a device I am confident they will want to upgrade to anyway. I also have my old 510 stuff to loan them while their Ego is in the mail.

I survived for months happily vaping with only a handful of stock 510 batteries and going through the occasional atomizer. Very inexpensive. Things that fell by the wayside were fiddling with carts at all, PCC, 510 USB passthrough (mine die quickly though they are nice while they last). If I were to start over again I wouldn't bother to buy any hardware beyond batteries, atomizers and chargers. The introduction of the Ego to the marketplace makes most of that other stuff irrelevant now anyway. The "next gen" of new vapers starting on such a device has life much easier, since the Ego means the end of constant battery swapping and chain charging, leaking juice (it's perfect for dripping, the cone is awesome) and lugging around a PCC. (A PCC slowly charging 2-3 510 batteries in turn is unnecessary when you can instead carry a single spare Ego battery).
