I like tobacco but enjoy the menthol. I never liked menthol cigs though.... go figure.
I'll avoid the whole mod vs. ego debate and challenge the LR atty recommendation. When I started the vaper was harsh with a regular atty. If I had been using LR, I may have decided vaping wasn't going to work for me. Yes, I like higher voltage now, but it took a while to get to that point.
I also take exception with the idea that TV waffle juice will please everyone. It's not what I buy. It's not what a lot of people buy.
There are lots of products that are popular because we're all different. It would be nice if one kit and one juice would work for everyone, but it's just not that simple.

Deback... what's your point that things you havn't tried are not good.
The joye ego is a good recommendation, and its a good place to start for a newbie. It's one I settled on after a lot of expensive experimentation. Its a very popular e-cig for a good reason. Though perhaps if you go straight to it without trying the sucky ones it may not seem as great.
I agree with the OP in a big way and here is why. The first and foremost concern for a new vaper is 1. Not make a huge mistake and 2. Get something that works.
While any PV choice "might" not be what they ultimately want, long term, at least they will have a proper vaping experience and have a good reference point. If they choose something else - they may not.
With regard to the risk of ruining batteries using LR, here is my take. I have used Boge LR cartomizers for 1.5 months and have had no issues. If it did ruin a battery after 2 or 3 months - I will buy another battery. $20 every 2 months is a non issue to me. If they ruined them immediately then obviously that would be a different matter. But that has not been my experience - thus far.
I have not used the 306 atty's and likely won't as I like the Boge LR carto's - so no need right now. The Boge LR carto's are 2.0 Ohms, perhaps other LR are lower and cause more of an issue - or perhaps I have just been fortunate - not sure.
