coils don't explode, they may snap, crackle and pop.
You could short out if the cap hits the coil but nothing should explode. If it shorted out and got lower than 1.2Ω you'll get a "Lo Ω" warning and it won't fire. If it shorted out and was above 1.2Ω it would probably have a hot spot and a bad taste.

I have the same size round and ribbon wire as you. Twist those bad boys in a drill or something similar. I clamp one side and spin the other with a ring clamp. The twisted wire is great!
Definitely makes it easier, I use superxdrifters method. Do a search for him and look on his blog, has some good videos on micro coiling, makes it a breeze!
