doing a happy dance for you:rickroll:

This is where it starts to get fun, you have to mess with the coils and get it to burn evenly, I usually only make micro coils these days as I find it easier and more efficient for me. Following CloudZ advice should work great for you. SuperxDrifter has some videos around here about how to make coils the super easy way and I follow that and haven't had a single problem. If your coils are all together, strum them with a micro driver after pusling and firing, it'll help with them burning evenly... lemme see if i can find a link to make it all easier for ya.

ok this camera doesn't seem to be able to focus in up close but here is what I have Snapshot_20140314_5.jpg and it wont let me upload the video :p

from what I can see not bad at all! with phones what I try to do is keep the phone a little further away from the item I'm taking a picture of and use the zoom and it seems to focus ok heh.

I might try to pull the coil away from the posts slightly more to get it closer to my air hole in my cap, but that's about it. If you have tweezers (if you're after the micro type coil) fire the coil, and once you stop firing squeeze the coil together with the tweezers. Again, NEVER WHILE FIRING, I know it's common sense but I'd rather say it a few times than to find out someone got hurt :/ just slide some cotton through that bad boy and vape away, just make sure to saturate it will and test.

Ok I don't have anything but the peaches and cream yarn right now to test this. (I believe I need to boil it first-which means I will have to wait to test this) Or maybe some wick from an iClear?

I dont have experience with the iClears... Just boil the yarn and you'll be alright in a little while. I use CVS sterile rolled cotton or 100% organic cotton balls and don't boil either of those and they work just fine and have no break in period for me. I hope all the info is helping you, I'm at work otherwise I'd be wanting to build right now lol! boo for having to work on fridays! :/

No need to be intimidated.

1) Don't build to lower amps than your battery can handle. That's really the only safety there is. The things you list are more pains in the .... (except shorting on metal but that goes back to not building lower amps than the battery can handle). If you're using a Vamo that's really not much of a worry, the safety features don't allow continuous drain and it won't fire below 1.2Ω. It's possible you could over tax a battery but if you got one of the recommended ones not likely.

2) Depending on what you have to fire it with you may need to go to sub-ohms. My IGO-W is 1Ω dual. It takes 4.9v to get it firing like I want it. That requires stacking in an SVD (because my Vamo won't fire 1Ω and my eVic can't produce that voltage with that ohm).

3) However many wraps as it takes to get the ohms you want with the wire you choose.

4) Either, neither. Your choice.

5) You can use your Vamo to test on.

6) Don't know, I'm a fan of dry burning to clean and use silica or ekowool.

7) I like the ribbon. I have that ribbon in my IGO-W, I could tell you exactly how many wraps I have but I don't want to take the cap off (it's a tight fit). A little from memory and a little from trying to see through the cap, I think it's 10 wraps on a 16ga needle for two 2Ω coils. A little worse memory is each wrap (off both coils) equaled .2Ω so you would need 11-12 wraps to get it to fire on a Vamo (for a 1.2Ω atty).

Know that the single coil your building will be halved if you try to match it for a dual. So if it's 1.8Ω it will become .9Ω as a dual.
Personally I think you'd be just as well off building a 1.5Ω-2Ω-ish micro-coil with the ribbon and using it as a single. Overall I don't think duals are worth it.

Thanks Jonathon....the waiting to boil the yard is killing. I am actually working from home myself today (over here and coil building as I am checking in or waiting for pages to load etc) LOL

LOL unfortunately for me I can't work from home yet, work load is far too big, but hopefully in the future once I have everything setup for this Co. I can do that more often than coming in to the office! I myself am actually thinking about trying this yarn for my kayfun builds hehe, lemme know how it works out!

Both my MVP and Vamo will let me know if I go too low right?

Do more wraps equal higher ohms then?

Part of the reason they let me WFH when needed is due to the workload I have (they finally gave me another person to help out) and the fact that I still always meet deadlines :). (Plus I have over an hour commute each way so for appts I kind of have to WFH or work less hours to make them. Since I work for such a large corp, they have also started offering alternative work arrangements for employee retention which is nice. I haven't set up anything formal yet but its awesome when a company allows this. I hope to have time over lunch to try and boil up some yarn here....I will keep you posted.

They hiring? LOL, Currently doing Marketing, Operations, and IT for the small Company I work for hehe

edit* good luck with that boiling and stuff, haven't tried boiling the yarn myself but I dont imagine it to be too difficult

Thanks for the great info!

I don't know about the MVP.

The Vamo will let you know if you get too low of ohms but it won't tell you the amp draw on the battery. It is limited to 5amps but that doesn't mean it doesn't draw more than that from the battery. It's kind of guess work with VV's.
If your battery has a 10a rating you should be safe going by what Provape says about their board. And IMO (and experience), a 6a battery probably has around a 12a pulse rating so they should be safe. Any battery I've seen recommended here should be safe.

Yes more wraps higher ohms.

This is what I've learned about resistance - I'm no expert by any means though:
Resistance is a function of how much energy it takes to complete the circuit. The circuit is connecting the positive to the negative side of the battery. Your coil is basically creating the resistance between these two. Sooo... More wraps means more wire means more resistance. The larger your resistance wire is (both in width and length to create the coil) the more resistance you will have.

Boiling cotton seems to be a preference thing. Going organic seems to be the smart thing to do... but who knows how they are really growing the cotton. Some recommend boiling in distilled water. (this applies to both yarn and balls) - some find yarn easier to work with.
I find boiling my cotton makes it easier to work with. To dry it I press it between my hands as hard as I can to get as much water out as I can. Then I set it on a paper towel in front of my small desk fan. I think it takes a few hours to dry this way. Some people use the microwave.. I boil in a small pot with tap water. I boil for about 15 minutes, and dont have the patience to change the water :). I unroll my cotton balls before boiling. I boil about 6-8 at at time and that seems to last me a month or so.

I prefer microcoils (all the coils touching). I like 28ga kanthal because it seems to stay put after aneiling the wire (heat it up before wrapping). I usually do 10 or so wraps on a 3/32 drill bit. I like the microcoils because they are easy to rewick. I have no experiance with ribbon/flat wire (I've only used round). I like my vape around 1.4-1.6 ohm. I vape at about 8watts.

I recently started doing dual micro coils (8 wraps of 32ga kanthal on 3/32 drill bit comes to about 3.2 ohms). I'm going back to single because i think the flavor is better.

I've been using these to calculate wraps:
Fractional inch to millimeters
PV Web Apps

With that second link - It doesnt seem to account for the extra wire you need to get the coil to the post (coil leads) so I leave one wrap off that I used to calculate the coil, and that seems to be pretty accurate.

If you do dual coil, check ohms law so you stay within your batteries limits.. Remember the resistance is 1/2 of what each coil is. Amps and voltage double when using the 1/2 resistance to calculate ohms law. (this is based on what I've read.. again - I'm no expert..)

Most AVP's have short circuit protection, and most of the Chinese ones seems to limit your coils around 1.2ohm (anything lower and it reads short)

I hope thats helpful!

Im confused now. My Vamo is telling me that its reading 1.7 ohms, however its then giving me a "Lo v" reading?? It was fine at first...just re dripped and this came up? I also wasn't noticing much increase over iclear vapor? Can I have put too much liquid on it?

Your battery needs charged.
