I'll probably never fully quit analogs...

:unsure:Been using the e-cig for just over a week now and I gotta say, as good as it is, I don't think it'll ever FULLY replace smoking for me. I went out drinking the other night and I just HAD to have an analog. So far my e-cig, which is a black 510 with a blue LED, has been kicking my cravings while at work, or just lounging around the house. But I've found that once I'm in a social situation with other smokers it's just not the same.

Well, I say cutting down on the analogs at all is an accomplishment.

But, why not try being around other smokers and not drinking, then make your decision? For me, I had to quit drinking and smoking at the same time until my transition to vaping was complete. I'm almost at the point where I'll be able to be out and drink while using my PV.

Good luck!

I'm not there either BFG. After 24 years at 2 packs/day, deciding to quit analogs may be counterproductive. But I've cut back by 1/2 (and reduced coffee consumption/increased water consumption) for one simple reason: I'm "between jobs."

I spend a lot of time online filling out job applications. Lighting a cigarette while filling out a job application results in waste of most of the cigarette, which is expensive. When vaping, I'm not wasting anything between drags.

I just drove 6 hours to a job interview and arrived smelling like something other than an ashtray. Also, no burn holes on my shirt. No problem whatsoever.

If hired, I'll need to sell the house and relocate. I need to alleviate the ashtray smell of the house (and be able to smell the difference).

For me, vaping is essential right now, and I can envision future circumstances where it would be a lot better than completely going without nicotine for a while. I hope I quit cigarettes in the process. But if I make that my goal and fall short, e-cigs will have failed just like everything else I've tried.

We've managed to cut way back on smoking, and that's not necessarily going to switch us to vaping, but it might eventually. I suppose it depends somewhat on how things go with the jalopeno juice. I haven't tried it yet, but if someone offers to trade a pack of analogs for your e-cig loaded with jalopeno juice, don't cave in!

Drinking was my biggest worry, even more so than the dreaded morning smoke.

I found that, for me anyway, vaping tobacco flavors when I'm drinking does the trick.
The sweet and fruit type flavors just didn't seem to work out that well.

Now I LOVE vaping while drinking, and never wish I had a smoke instead.

I find it interesting how some people are not able to quit the analogs, and I enjoy reading the stories that follow them.

I smoked almost 3 packs a day for 18 years, got talked into an e-cig, and have only smoked 2 analogs since. I find it much easier if you have the right juice though. I went through LOTS of what I consider KAKA juice before I went into the totally wicked store and sampled a bunch, now I have what I want, will not waste anymore money on bad juice, and it kicks the craving right out for me.

I was hurting on the bad juice, wanted analogs BAD, but with the good juice I do not miss them.

Self Talk. . .it's very important. If you think you can't quit. . .guess what, you won't be able to. Ya gotta wanna. And you gotta wanna bad nuff to do it. More than 6.5 decades of life and I'm still looking for someone else to blame for my poor choices and behavior. The minute I stuck my first crumby Blu eCig in my mouth, I took a drag. . .looked at wifey, and said, "Yuppo, this is it! I can do it."

Good luck with your quit. . .you can do it!

Cheers,

Theres really no right or wrong here - there's only whats best for YOU.
Right now it seems that not quitting is best for YOU, later that may change, as long as you keep your options open then anything is possible :)
I hadnt intended to quit either btw and smoked for 10 days or so after I got my PV then I just..didn't fancy a cig. My quit baner started the day I stopped, and even now if I really really want a cig then I have one but I cant usually get past 3 puffs as it makes me feel sick, I really prefer the PV now anyway and that kinda re-inforces it.
Good luck to you whatever your path :thumb:

I agree with DC... a good tobacco liquid makes all the difference when out having a drink (or two ;)).

If you smoke once in a while (or even a few every day)? Pfffft. Not a big deal (especially this early in the game). This is a smoking alternative. Some people find they can quit after a while. Some don't, but manage to cut down drastically. Regardless, each and every cigarette you don't smoke is a victory so give yourself a big pat on the back for all those you have avoided.

Welcome to ECF!

I'm on Day 4 and really liking ecigs, but I still smoke analogs, too. I'm THRILLED to have cut down on the analogs as much as I have! My attitude is, if I never cut down more, I've improved my lung function by half. (But I intend to cut down more, and maybe even "the q-word" one day.)

I figure I've saved 4 packs (conservative guess) over these 4 days, which is about $18, which is a decent percentage of the ecig startup cost. AND I don't feel like I've given up a thing (since my trusty analogs are right there if I "need" one).

I've noted two things that surprise me:

1. there have been occasions where I put the analog out and pick up the ecig instead. Sometimes it's because I've been puffing on the ecigs and like the flavor, and the analog doesn't cut it and makes me a little queasy. Which to me is a completely NEW experience (NOT wanting a cigarette, opting for the alternative).

2. the juice mixture has a LOT to do with my ecig enjoyment (which is frustrating because I only have a few sample bottles left to play with). If I don't get the mixture right, and it ends up tasting like oil, I set the ecig down for an hour or so while I clean out the puffies that hold the juice.

3. I woke up coughing a lot of clear .... the last few days (I'd swear it was water, like my lungs are water-logged). So mornings are when I'm tending to smoke instead of vape. I'm starting to vape less at night to see if that helps with the morning cough stuff.

I love to smoke and drive; now I vape and drive. Not for the flavor, but because I can toss the ecig on the seat and not worry about burning down the car!

If you drink and vape, be careful not to LIGHT your battery. (Seriously, I can't be the only one with the almost-issue!)

I appreciate the OP's situation. But, a couple weeks ago I went to a bar to kill time. A storm had knocked the lights out at home, and I couldn't handle sitting in the dark with no A/C, no computer, no TV. I quit with the bar scene more than a decade ago, but this was drastic, LOL. So, I went to a nearby tavern, with PV in pocket.

I drink a few beers most nights at home. But, this was a first for me to go 'out' to somewhere since I quit smoking. I'd actually looked forward to the moment, wondering how I'd handle it. It wasn't a problem. I realize the transition isn't as easy for everybody, and I do consider myself fortunate. More power to those who are struggling.

Don't worry about quitting. It is a gradual process for some of us. For me personally I actually started my journey the end of Feb. I smoked 2pk Pall Mall Reds/Marlboro Reds (if I had a coupon) a day for the last several years. That is 48 mg of nic a day. When I first picked up my ecig I cut down to 1pk a day for the first month. Then I went down to 12-15 cigs. Finally on April 9th I didn't buy a carton went 7 days then bought a carton smoked them, then tried again. Finally on April 25th finally kicked the cigs all together and haven't looked back.

I wish I had known about this website when I bought my first e-cig. Got a super mini from a local smoke-shop kinda on an impulse buy. Spent $80 on 2 batteries, 2 attys, and 10 prefilled carts. Even from that I liked vaping. Then I discovered that people that are into vaping are REALLY into vaping. I'm actually really excited about the progress I have made. I smoked an analog today and it tasted like crap but my 510 battery had died and I was waiting in-line to get into a restaurant so I really didn't have too much choice. I apologize ahead of time as I have a tendency to ramble in forums so I'm gonna stop this here. Thank you all for the advice and words of encouragement and I look forward to being a productive member of the boards!

I had to have an analog first thing in the morning for a couple of weeks after starting the e-cig. Occationally I'd have one in the am and one at night. It took a bit to totally get off the analogs. I've ran out of e juice in the past and couldn't stand an analog.

It isn't an instant substitute for everyone but cutting back is an improvement.

That's a good thing! Been there, done that.

Vaping is a better bet than any other method I tried (and didn't succeed with). It's the only thing that's worked for me. As others said, just the fact that you've drastically reduced is a victory! Good luck! :D
