Years ago I came to this forum, did a ton of research and bought kind of my own kit which still works and I have not had to buy anything except more carts and liquid so far.

Below is my original order

The power supply
$13 Black Manual USB passthrough for KR808D-1
Why not a regular portable battery? you may ask. Getting a regular battery means you have to get a regular charger. For trying this whole device out for a first time I do not need it to be portable. If I do like it enough to want to make it portable, I will get The Bartleby. As shown in Scott's battery post, many of the portable batteries do poorly on his test. The Bartleby does very well, and has many features I would want if I were to take it with me. The physical switch so it can not be accidentally turned on. The power output, and longevity is high. It has been praised by many posters on this forum, and its $50. Most of the other "mod" batteries prices are around $100 for what seems to offer nothing more then what the Bartleby does.

Cartridges
$3 5pc black empty round cartridges for Joye510
Nothing really to explain, if you look on the price list I made you will see these are the best price.

Adapter
$3 1x 901-510 adapter(901/808D-1 bat to 510 at)
So I can use the KR808 battery on the 510 carts it only cost $3 anyways.

Atomizer
$8 Matte black atomizer for Joye510 mini e-cig
Easier to refill the cartridge that goes with atomizer, longer life expectancy then KR8
cartomizers

Years later I am dating a girl that would like something similar. I am a very occasional user, like once every couple of months.
I am curious should I get about the same thing for her, or has there been new developments and products I should know about?
If there is something a lot better out there now for a comparable price then I'd get that and let her have my current kit. Like I said I am an occasional user, but when I do indulge I like to do things right.

There no longer is any real need to use cartridges. For a starter kit, the best way to go are cartomizers. They are a reliable, no fuss vaping method. There are other new and shiny things out there, but I still think they are best left to subsequent experiments.

This is a nice video as it puts it in historical perspective: SO YOU WANT TO USE CARTOMIZERS - YouTube

Also, there is no need to get a KR8 pass-thru and then use it with 510 gear. There are plenty of small and eGo style USB pass-thrus with and without battery. Example: Joye eGo-T Tank Passthrough USB Battery 1000mAh - Stainless - E Cig : Joye eGo & eGo-T | Boge Leo | Cartomizers | E-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes | eGo Tank

There are also variable voltage versions of that - they go up to 4.5 V or something - you can look it up.

One of the best options out there is an eGo style larger battery like SLB KGO Starter Kit which

Well, if it's "years later" the products have all pretty much gotten much better in recent times, I believe. Just 3 years made a big difference in the available equipment and the quality of the equipment. However, the gear you already have would probably work fine.

However, if you like this girl, I'm thinking something new instead of passed down. You don't have to break the bank at all, but maybe add a little pizazz for her. I'm biased, because I love these products so much, but you might want to check this kit at Smokeless Image. (KR808 style) Two batteries (always good to have two, one to vape while charging another) with a pack of carts of choice (one of the samplers, maybe), and the wall adapter and usb charger. That's plenty for a starter kit. Nice thing about this, too, is that your girl can have her choice of a lot of different colors for her batteries, and the choice of sealed automatic, manual or one of both, and even the length - 65mm or 78mm. The batteries have a nice rubberized feel finish to them. Then you'll have to hide the "bling" accessories page which includes diamond tips, battery wraps, colored end caps...

Minne-soda!
I concur with the volt. I have a halo, but same difference. I just ordered 300$ worth of volt starter kits for friends. I'm hoping they will be pleased and able to continue on their own.

I'm off into the fray of variable volt with my ego twist which should be here tomorrow.
