I'm bored with vaping...

I got bored so i went and bought all new hardware (mod and two tanks) ended up liking them for the first week, by the 2nd week i was back to my old tried and true equipment and all it was was a waste of money. So im just kinda blah, little tired of my ejuice flavors but nothing i try gets my fancy. Guess im also stuck in a rut, thinking of venturing into making my own juice next...we'll see if i ever get around to that.

Got rid of my Harleys 6-7 yrs ago and bought one of these. Haven't had this much fun on a motorcycle in many years!

That bike/sidecar is a work of art! What a beautiful machine. I have been involved in the offroad (motocross/supercross racing) my whole life. Unfortunately my racing career came to an end when i broke my back in a practice crash and ended up in a wheelchair, but went on to race off road cars back in the 90's. Now im just a huge fan and work for one of the biggest MX website/forums in the industry, keeps me close to the sport i love. (im rambling)

Yup the hobby side for me has died down. I still treat myself to new toys once in a while but nothing near the first year I started. Still love vaping tough, so can't quit just yet.

I started vaping over 8 years ago and went through all of the changes and improvements as the vaping industry grew into what it is today. I don't know how many members here are aware of the fact that many ECF members/shop owners actually went to China to meet with some of the e-cig makers to advise them on what vapers wanted/needed to be available to stop smoking and make the switch totally over to e-cigs. Some even designed the gear and with the help of China made it into a reality so others could buy and start using those designs. Even here in the US, many would design and have gear manufactured/ or would make it themselves, (ie. Cartos, tanks that those cartos would fit into, etc.) and sell those items online. For me, it was when the carto tanks were born, that I knew I would never go back to smoking. It has been a wild/fun filled ride and it is exciting to see just how far this industry has grown.

One thing we learned very quickly and early on was China was not the place to buy e-juices. I am sure through the years they too have improved so I am not knocking Chinese flavors, I am just trying to paint the picture that only the very dedicated vaperors(ones who were looking to live longer and were tired of having that smoking monkey on our back) stuck it out through all of the growing pains. New vaperors today should know/learn the history on how e-cigs arrived at this place with all of the varieties of mods, pens, JUUL type devices, e-juices that are available at our finger tips today.

So now, if I find myself getting a little bored,(which is rare) I will mix up a new to me flavor for my DIY ejuice or go coil and wick a tank or go online to see the latest mods, or come to ecf and try and help newbies(or any member with a question). This is my way of giving back or paying it forward to a community that has given me so much. Smoking cigarettes was never this much fun and tasty, hell we couldn't taste the cigs anyway as our taste buds were almost dead from them.

Variety is the spice of life after all.

For me the novelty of building wore off long ago. Been there and done that with subohm...just a phase. TC was too much hassle and inconsistent. After over 5 years of building its just something I have to do. Same with DIY juice(over 3 years), I use to have oodles of flavors all steeping gracefully and now just a few I like. My coil has to be burnt crispy before I have too sit down to rebuild. I'm not bored of vaping but after time you do acquire enough knowledge to maintain a great vape, find your sweet spot in both builds and juice.
Sitting in vape nirvana riding the wave having literally ZERO vape hassles in 5 years...one can relax and enjoy the ride. From my Provaris to IPV2 to Istick100TC, several others and mechs are 3 to 5 years old and still regularly used. Other than some fine clapton wrap wire I haven't bought gear in a couple plus years now. Couple years back when the FDA was trying to drop the hammer I bought enough DIY Hangsen tobacco flavors to last me many years, all other DIY ingredients is still easily accessible. Can't forget 3 liters of 100nic is the freezer cut into 500ml bottles to be recut into 10 50ml bottles when its time. Its a warm feeling to be totally a self sufficient vaper.

We began vaping just at the tail end of crap quality and no quality control in gear. I had to revamp the clearo coils that some were just a lump of wire waiting to burn the throat so one learns mighty fast. Used stock coils for a couple months then began rebuilding those clearos then on from there. The gear of today is a dream compared to what was offered 5+ years ago and all it took was a poorly wrapped CE4 coil and research to begin to rebuild. Today it takes getting tired of buying 5 dollar coils and trying to afford the juice for massively thirsty attys before one needs to dwell into rebuilding and DIY.

I have often thought there should be a thread just talking about the devices/items over the years, sort of a history of vaping and place to post pics of the many items. That is Similar to how I got my Introduction to e-Cigarettes in 2009 also.

I had a Student in a class and at break people went out to the parking lot to smoke a analog. I noticed this Blue Light out of the corner of my eye. Thought he had a Blue Tooth on or Something.

This went on for a few minutes until finally I saw him take a hit of something and the Blue Light came on from the end of his Analog.

How were you introduced to vaping?

I still have that 1st e-Cigarette that he gave me a link to. A BSE109 88mAh Battery with a Cart/Atty that held 8 Drops of e-Liquid.

I pull it out sometimes and just Trip on How Far things have come since then.

Not quitting, just not nearly as enthusiastic as I was just a couple of years ago. I think I have reached my saturation point, as with many of my other hobbies.

There was a time not that long ago that I was seriously infatuated (consumed) with vaping, anxiously awaiting the next new toy, buying, trying, and selling (a LOT). Scouring the net and this forum constantly looking for something new. And I was not disappointed. Like many folks, I went from disposable Njoys, to Blu, to an Ego battery with a clearomizer, to an Innokin MVP with Kanger Pro Tanks, to RDAs. to mech mods, sub-ohm tanks, regulated mods - then TC, and to squonking - where I have kind of settled, though I still drip a bit on mech and regulated mods at higher wattage.

I even wrote reviews for a high-traffic web site. Got to handle and use the latest and greatest vaping gear first hand and share my thoughts. What a gig.

Along the way, I started mixing my own juice and after a short buying frenzy I have also found that their are only so many custards you can mix. Not being the creative type (lazy) I can't be bothered concocting my own and have found a few recipes from others that I really like and have settled on.

Now it seems, the shine is off. I still vape - a lot - and will continue to make juice but I have reached a point where I don't visit here very day, don't look for new stuff, and have settled on a handful of juice recipes.

This is not a farewell to vaping, but I have found my sweet spot and just don't get excited about the "new" stuff coming out lately. Nothing really innovative like we saw in the explosion of vaping products over the past several years. There are only so many ways to make an RDA or RTA or to make a drop in coil, only so many ways to twist wire into multi-strand exotic wire, only so many ways...well, you get it...

There just doesn't seem to be the same level of excitement in the industry right now - nothing like the first regulated mods, or the introduction of temperature control (especially DNA technology) or sub-ohm tanks that took the industry by storm.

So, yeah, I'm bored.

Same, after collecting a bunch of mechs I just grew tired. Still vaping but other than cotton and eliquid (and wire now and then) I'm done.

Switched now to hi-end audio brother's gotta have a hobby, right?

I get where you are coming from. I am at a stop right now as I have blown a ton of money on everything. I never made my own juice (or got to handle a bunch of new equipment unless I bought it) but I started the same way- e cigs all the way to mech and squonk. I get the feeling. It is almost like if I don’t get someone thing new every 2 weeks I am bored. There are a few new items coming out that I am interested in but after July and buying 2 rdas, 1 Mod and 3 kits- I was not really satisfied with any of my purchases-lol. I am sure that it will pass. I hope so. Good luck and hopefully you will get out of the slump.

Interesting topic. I just red the first page. Since I vaping only since 4 Months, I'm still very enthusiastic. DIY and build my own coils.

Actually I think it's a good thing to become kinda bored as long you stay away of cigarettes. In my 4 Month vaping career I bought a lot of stuff. And some parcels are just on the way. Nevertheless, otherwise I would have wasted that money in tobacco and taxes.

I'm pretty sure I'll stay with mix my own juices since the commercial juices for my taste more often than not way too sweet.

Whatever you do, let tobacco alone.

What's shaking all!

Same boat here as quite a few of you. A mix of content and loss of spark for exploration I guess. I used to be pretty active on here once upon a time. Now even that has settled down to a bi-weekly or sometimes longer check in. Like today I got an email about this thread and it resonated with me, so in I went.

I will say that I hace zero plans to stop vaping, as I still enjoy the action of vaping. I'm just not as entrenched as I once was. Still DIY and build for myself and a few others and am still a success story. I will keep that in the forefront, that today I am a success story against my old vice.

I get the same way, it's actually been quite a while since I logged on here. Things are different than they used to be. If you take when I first started,there were little options and making things became a must (to some of us).

Now there is stuff galore which is good and bad. It's great to have options but there are many times the choices aren't what they seem. Many things mod/tank/rda are the same thing but just look a little different. There again not meaning it's bad, it's just an overload of form and not function at times.

I haven't bought much of anything in a long time because what I have works great and to be honest tired of buying and waiting, just to receive an over-hyped whatever that is no better (sometimes worse) than what I already have.

Just roll back relax and it'll come back around to you. It does for me at least, I generally look for different things juice/hardware when it's a holiday. Generally I find a good sale to get me to try new liquid or buy a gadget because it is discounted so much. Then every so often see something new or interesting while searching the sales.

Example I just bought a Sapor RTA because it was $5 and a X-Pure RDA $5. I may not like either but I can give them as gifts at the very least. In the end it's not just you, many of us get the mental version vape tongue.

Couldn't agree more. The raging case of shinyitis I had back in 2011, when I first discovered Blu - and then custom e-juice and then cartos and the Boge Leo and bottom coil clearos and then the mech and the RDA and, most recently (not that recently!) the rebuildable single coil tank.

I bought the Snow Wolf MFeng and the Wismec Luxotic this year. That's it..nothing out there really tugged at my want strings - and I have plenty of rebuildable tanks. Merlin Mini's my favorite with the OBS Crius II a close second.

I haven't smoked in going on seven years now, so I'm still with vaping..but the magic is gone.

I certainly still enjoy vaping as I used to enjoy the act of smoking. It has become quite the big industry and I'm glad there are so many options available to help people get off the "stinkies".

ECF has played a huge part in all the success and I am eternally thankful for all the discussions and ideas and support of its members that lead me to a life "smoke-free".

I’m in the same boat as the OP. I started vaping in 2013 to try and get off cigarettes. 6 months later I had left them in the cloud and by 2015 I had quit vaping nicotine. Now I just do it for flavor and some entertainment. I went through cloud chasing and rebuilding which was fun and I enjoyed the challenge of it and planning a build around the use of a mech mod. I could take the wife to Europe or go on a caribou hunt in Alaska for what I spent to feed my Shinyitis addiction. Lol. It’s really faded for me, though. Part of it is hitting my 50’s I think. Lol! I prefer a good tank (Falcon currently) that makes a decent cloud with decent flavor and very little maintenence. Now I have Lazyitis instead.

In reality, changes seem to be coming along pretty slowly. So, maybe that’s what’s feeding my ambivalence. But how much CAN stuff change now? I mean, really? Where can it go from here? Aside from some extreme change in the amount of flavor I can taste or a huge price drop in juice, what could get me on the edge of my chair in anticipation? I can’t think of much.

I think it’s AWESOME that some folks can maintain their excitement level. I envy them in some ways. On the other hand....vaping was a means to stop smoking, for me. I didn’t come here to find joy in my life or hobbies; despite the fact that I acquired one I didn’t actually need. Lol. In a way, I think drifting away from the initial excitement or the hobby of vaping is sort of the GOAL. I mean, there are a lot of productive things to do in life and the reality is...vaping is pretty low on that list, in the grand scheme. Sure, it’s healthier than smoking. No doubt! But, prior to vaping who said: “I need to stop smoking and make that into a hobby!” I didn’t. My thought was, “I need to quit smoking so I can live longer, DO more things, SEE more things and spend more time with my loved ones!” I had ZERO need for an additional hobby or interest. Lol. The hobby aspect certainly helped me to succeed with my ultimate goal to get off nicotine and get healthier but I believe the fading of interest is a natural progression that’s part of the process and part of the goal - well, MY goal, anyway.

The old hobby that I can not revisit is stereo equipment. The old stuff I like would require re-mortaging the house.
Besides that, the old Marantz 2275 is still kicking out the jams just fine.

Marantz is still expensive compared to the competition, but the prices seem to be more affordable compared to the 70s prices. The world has turned from analog to digital and the old stuff just needs a CD/DVD player to stay current.

My old Panasonic stereo receiver/amp hasn't been turned on in years. A Vizio sound bar system took its place for music and TV surround and sounds like a movie theater. We've even used multicasting to watch movies and TV shows from network web sites on my phone on the 70" Vizio TV with the soundbar system. The sound and picture is noticeably better than a DVD. My, how the world has changed! I want to live another hundred years to see the holographic equipment of the future.
