I'm new here, but I just want to say I'm sick from vaping on a Tugboat clone

Hmmm. It just looked completely dry, but I don't think it look melted. I mean, what are the odds that I melted rayon in this thing two times in a row?

With that low of ohm...pretty likely to get dry hits if you aren't watching it carefully

Sub-ohming takes a LOT of liquid

Don't be condescending. .....
Apologies for being taken as condescending but..........

Now that you've expressed detail rather than emotion there have been reasoned deductions made for the benefit of all.

insurance or no that strong of a physical effect should be presented to a doctor.

Short of that it would be huge if there were a member with the appropriate background and skill set to be able to analyze the atty.

While I agree and I wish I could go to a doctor, I wonder what they could possibly tell me.

I always think doctors are mostly just going to say "Don't do that vaping thing because it could be hazardous to your health!" and dismiss it and send me on my way.

That's mainly why I don't go to a doctor.

I should note that I am fairly allergic to nickel, so any impure metals would do SOMETHING to me, but I usually have to be touching the metal for extended periods of time for any adverse reactions. Never heard of issues with breathing it.

For instance, I think kanthal has nickel in it, but I've suffered no ill effects from vaping on my Tobh with kanthal. Might be irrelevant.

The "brass shakes" requires a lot more heat, it really is a welding hazard, not a vaping one!

Not true. Low sub ohm builds can easily reach and exceed the power needle to weld mild or thin metals. Arc and mig welders I have start at 10 amps.

I would bet money on the insulators being the cause. Melting insulators or even over heated insulators made out of certain plastics will give of toxic vapor. Even if a safe material is used, machine oils will penetrate the plastic and be vaporized later on.

So you're subohming... there's your answer... nic overdose. Your resistance between coils is varying.

My exact thoughts when I read the first post. Also, people need to stop with this #saynotoclones bull crap. Clones are probably what keeps most of the vape community vaping.

I tried scratching it and I believe it's actually a plate of metal rather than a paint, so maybe that's out?

I'm thinking it may be the oil, so when I get home I'm going to dunk it in rubbing alcohol and see if it'll dissolve.

Although I'm really scared to try it again after this, I'll give it ONE MORE TRY before I give up. And next time I'll only do 3-4 puffs instead of 10 for testing so I don't get as sick.

To properly clean it, you may need to completely dissassemble it, especially the INSULATORs.

Kanthal does not have Nickle in it, Kanthal A-1 is a ferritic iron-chromium-aluminium alloy

Hiding up a tree
Have you got any pictures you can show, such as of the atty, your standard build, the rayon (after use) etc etc?

I use a magma and even with it's juice capacity I would not be doing more than 6 hits without checking the juice level. I know you were driving to work, but still, even the faintest chance of me getting a dry hit sends me into a blind panic to find my juice bottle. I have tasted the fruit of the dry hit tree, never again.

You should invest in a EHPro Pontus (or a dig dripper etc) for your drives...

I did clean it. See my reply to Roni.

3mg Cap'n Comet 100% VG

.49 Ohms in the Atty

"Deathly ill, confusion and dizziness"

Let's try to narrow some things down...

Please, what kind of ill ?
Nauseous ?

Is this a new bottle of liquid or one that you have used before ?

Is .49 normally what you have been vaping at ?

(And don't throw the atty out...just put in in a baggy and hang onto it...)

My stomach hurts a little, but it hasn't reached a point where I feel like I'll throw up. Like I said before, this has happened to me before with the same atty. I only tried it again because I cleaned the hell out of it. I've used this bottle before now in my Tobh with no problems.

Yea, I usually vape at .5 or .7-.9, so consistently subohm.

I really feel kind of tired and I'm SO dizzy. I also feel slightly lightheaded. Does that help? I dug it out of the trash and put it in a bag. I'll investigate further when I get home.

Positive on the Ohms. Absolutely positive.

Sorry, I should have specified. I took 10 hits from the time I left home til the time I got to work, which was over the course of an 1 hour and 15 minutes (long commute :( ).

It's the same way I vape the other atty, except that one has a much more "complicated" coil. My Tobh has a twisted kanthal sleeper coil build and this one is just two 8 wraps of 26 gauge wire around a 5/64 drillbit (I think I counted that right).

And I always use the same coil material/wick. A-1 resistance kanthal with rayon fibers

This is his normal vaping with his 3mg liquid

Are you using a meter to verify your ohms ?

I bought it from 101vape.com and the listing just says Tugboat RDA Clone. Not even kidding. Not a company, which is why I think it may be some sort of bad way they are making clones.

The tugboats listed on 101vape are all 304 stainless steel which is the desirable choice in vape gear.

Clones and authentics are made exactly the same way... start with the raw metal and machine it to specifications. These RDA's are really not that complex.

Another suggestion on cleaning any new metal equipment... Dawn dish-washing liquid. It's the same stuff used to clean animals/birds from oil spills and works great on most anything else. Also be sure and remove every screw and component when you clean it... cleaning usually means soaking it in hot water and soap... then rinsing real well with hot water then air dry it completely.

All the information provided though really sounds like nicotine overdose or a severe allergic reaction... again the primary suspect would be your juice/nicotine rather than 304 stainless steel...

I'll give it one more go, but I'm pretty scared of getting sick. I wonder if I dunk it in the dawn and then boil it and then throw it in rubbing alcohol if it'll all come out then. I guess the worse think that'd happen is I get sick again and I just throw this thing out.

I'd say leave it alone for at least a month. There's no hurry to troubleshoot the problem; I'm bothered by this nickel allery; never heard of such a thing; quite surpirsing actually; do you really have a nickel allergy diagnosed medically or is that just a conclusion on your part.
