My main reason for switching was my wife and kids. My non smoker wife (who is a nurse) hated the fact that I smoked. Besides how bad I obviously smelled after smoking, she was worried (justifiably so) about long term health concerns.
After 1 month, i do feel noticeably better. I definitely breath easier and sleep better. I had been having to buy the primatene mist ($25+) for occasional asthma type attacks which were getting more frequent. I have only had to use it once since switching...and that was early on.
As for a cost standpoint. Being the first month, I have spent more money than I have saved. (contrary to the little signature box below :) )
basically, I have spent $207.37 (starter kit, cartomizers, juice, misc accessories, etc)on vp stuff as opposed to the $165.00 I would have spent on analogs. However, I am fully stocked for now and have no immediate need to buy anything for at least 1 month. After that, I see my monthly cost being around $75.00 compared to $165.00 (and climbing everyday) analog price.
So I am getting healthier AND saving ~$90.00/mo.
Not too mention my wife is much happier! ...and you cant put a price on that. As for the fabreeze part... I feel like I am a human fabreeze...every time I exhale, it smells of fruity goodness. My office (where I vape the most) is no lie, the best smelling room of the house. :p

I started vaping just before PA put another wild tax on roll-your-own tobacco. The price of a bag was about to triple overnight, and the ecigs seemed like an exit strategy.

At this point, I think we roughly break even cost-wise. No huge savings, but it's not really any more expensive either. HOWEVER - I love vaping WAY more than I ever enjoyed smoking.

The flavors rock. They don't stink up my apartment. I don't have to empty ashtrays anymore. They don't coat my electronics with yellow film. And probably the best thing is that I can hug my smoke-sensitive Grandma again, and I don't have to listen to her giving me the anti-smoking lecture anymore. For me that's worth TEN times the cost of smokes.

I wish I was starting out with the current options and prices! But even after spending around $1500. I am ahead over $2000. that I would have spent on cigarettes.

Here is a link to a good disposable that you could test drive while you research. Just in case it isn't for you. I have a few of these that are several months old. They are far from disposable. Lots of vendors carry them.

Speaking of savings:

Spent $1300 in 15 months.
Saved - $2241 (from my sig) - $1300 = $941 (real savings)

Can go on for 2+ years without buying anything else and that would add another $3446 to savings.
Nice!
I think ppl need to realize it's not something that happens overnight.
You have to pay some to save some.
At the beginning, spend some money on the starter kit and if you're worried about money, stick to one or two flavors. If you vaped strictly Dekang, you could vape for like 20 bucks a month! lol
This is more a hobby for me as I create mods and whatnot/try new flavors etc.
but my Fiance uses it strictly as a smoking alternative, and I kid you not-- she spent 30 bucks on her kit and spends about 10-15 dollars a month. She uses a tobacco flavor and a watermelon flavor, and buys her liquid once a month. She uses cartomizers and spends maybe 5 bucks a month on those... so all together, she spends SIGNIFICANTLY less on vaping than on cigs. I don't because it's my new hobby :)
she used to smoke a pack a day and a pack here is like 5-6 bucks. A DAY! That's 35-40 bucks a week, and she spends HALF that now a MONTH.
if this tells you anything.... if you wanna save money, you can make it work with vaping.

The only thing I regret about the ecig, is that I hadn't discvovered it sooner. I just got my first kit and I am thrilled with it. I actually PREFER it to regular cigarettes! There is no smoke burning my eyes, no embers. I don't have to worry about a dog accidently injuring herself by brushing up against it and I don't have to worry about burning the house down if I drop it. I would never go near my bed with a cigarette in my hand. But last night I sat on my bed with my ecig and played with my pups and then put it away on the night stand. I live in a small place so it was like I got to reclaim a huge chunk of space and really - relax and enjoy myself and not worry about it! I am sure as you explore, you will find your own benefits that transcend the dollar for dollar costs. Good luck!

A basic 808 kit can be picked up for 30 - 50 -- two batteries, charger, sample cartos.

I'm getting blank cartos for about $1 each (a PIF coop).

An ounce of 48 mg juice plus two ounces of doubler runs about $30 delivered, can be mixed to 3 oz of 16 mg strength, is equivalent to about 3 cartons of light cigs (at 3 mg/day consumption -- seems pretty typical).

So, recurring cost, with a popular vendor's juice, assuming using a carto every day (and yes, they can be reused), is about $2/pack equivalent, $20/carton.

Nominal battery life is a couple hundred charge cycles (I see about 300 listed as typical).

Use two charges/batt/day, you're talking replacement of batteries every 150 days.

$40 (midpoint battery replacement, with shipping)/150 = $0.27/day.

So, if you're doing a full pack a day equivalent vaping, 3 ml of 16 mg liquid, you still come out at only $2.27.

It costs less if you recycle your cartos -- they can be used several times with the same liquid, and can actually be cleaned once or twice -- though will almost certainly spend a bit more $ on liquids -- trying different kinds if part of the fun of vaping.

End of the day, it actually is probably right around the $23/carton equivalent, if you don't go wild over trying lots of HW and too many liquids. (I've been happy with my simple KR808D-1 stuff, have several friends now using it.)

Saving $ wasn't a goal for me -- the health payback is already obvious after even a short time (and I'm a really active person, was while smoking too), but the savings are real if that's a concern.

(PIF is also a good forum area to check out various things).

Enjoy!

Consider me your recycling center for Njoy Pro, Smoking Everywhere Gold, Cloud 9, Smoke 51 Trio, and DSE103 useless batteries.
Other hardware if it’s still usable.
Those I loan out to/give to thank you.

Well congrats but what did you buy???????
We are all curious!!!

I ordered two 901 dual starter kits, two 30 ml bottles of e liquid, and two 5 piece packages of empty cartridges.:) At a total cost of $114.

Hope this works for us. My husband has been a smoker for about 50 years. I've been a smoker for almost 40 years.

Damm, $23.00 a carton?...must be those real cheap brands...When I quit analogs, my Marlboros Ultra Lights were $45.00 a carton and that is in KY, so I would have to drive about 25 minutes to KY and buy my analogs there...Alot cheaper then Ohio...
But, even so,,,,since I have been vaping (Feb 11),,,,I had not had an analog since and feel great....No more coughing in the morning, no more bad breath,,,,or burns on my cloths or inside the car...No worry about a fire being started...But the best is my breathing is a lot better and I can actually taste my food now.....Fantastic....
Enjoy the Adventure...

I was like you, I pay $18.00 a carton for the cheapest analogs (Exetrer) and the initial costs up front were a little over whelming BUT even spending $18 a week on a carton even though it is cheap as dirt in the analog world, you will save money in the long run! I'm factoring that after initial start up if i buy even a mixed bottle of ready e-juice at $30.00 with a 30ml bottle that bottle will last me around a month or so. That is already cheaper than the $72.00 I was spending a month. And even if I have to but a new atty once a month at $10.00 for one that still is only $40 a month. That's around $32.00 bucks I have extra to spend a month. Heck if you drop that extra $32 in the bank and don't touch it that's $96.00 you have to splurge and plenty enough to stock up on juices, bats and attys. It's well worth the investment in my opinion. And as pp, the health, smell and enjoyment of clean lungs is priceless!

My husband and I are both smokers. I'm just learning about e-cigarettes. Doing a search on the internet did not help me much in finding a source that would be cheaper than what we are paying for cigarettes.

We currently are paying about $23 per carton. What I have found so far would work out to more than that.

Is your health and your life worth more than $23 per carton? That is the real question.
