I believe (anyone know for sure?) that Blu cartos are VG based. VG decreases throat hit. PG increases throat it, so if the Volt cartos are PG based that would explain the extra throat hit at the same nic level.

Try sipping water before you puff. Then, inhale the vapor into your mouth (slowly!!), hold it there, and either breathe it out or inhale (which actually isn't necessary with vaping). If you just puff, hold, and exhale you'll still absorb your nic but should have far less throat hit.

Ways to lower throat hit:

Lower the nic.

Don't directly inhale. Pull drawl like it were a cigar instead.

Keep your throat moist while vaping (VERY important - even more important if you are a new vaper)

Try lowering the PG - some people have an almost allergic reaction to PG, me being one of them. I have to drink a lot of water and I'm okay though.

Try another type of carto. I can't vape anything with polyfill because it for some unknown reason really hurts my throat. This lead me to being an exclusive dripper, which is not for everyone, but try vaping on something that doesn't have polyfill.

Eventually I plan on reducing it to 0mg, as I believe it's the act of smoking itself that I enjoy- and NOT the nicotine. I may move my reduction schedule up a bit, since I think the 24mg are just too "hot" for me to handle...but now I'm stuck with 4 unopened cartos that I can't really use. Oh well, I'll make do somehow- and when I do order juice, I'll go for a lesser amount of nic. ;)

In Blu EJuice Propylene Glycol is not listed as an ingredient. Therefore, the e-liquid on board must be of the 100% vegetable glycerin. To thin it out they add distilled water.
Ingredients: Distilled Water, Nicotine, Natural & Artificial Flavors, USP Glycerin, Citric Acid
Electronic Cigarette Cartridges | E-Cig Flavor Cartridges

Juice Components
Flavoring usually about 15%- could be higher or lower depending on the flavor used.
PG enhances flavor, TH and lung hit- some of us believe it to be a throat irritant- water like
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine. The MOST important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standards in the industry are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG.

Most begin at 18 or 24 mg nic. I started much higher but that's just "me". Now that I'm vaping very low nic I need to adjust my PG level higher to achieve a TH and lung hit.

If you're happy with the flavors and the nic level you could buy some of the same juice/ same nic level in pure VG and mix with the PG juice.

From the SI company rep, Imagine, here at ECF
"They are mostly PG with some VG about 90/10 "

Thanks, guys, for your advice. I don't mean to make it sound like SI's carts are terrible- they definitely are not! I can use 'em if I take itty bitty puffs, and since I'm not a huge honkin' clouds o'smoke vaper anyway, it'll make my liquid and my battery charge last a lot longer. Heck, I've been puffing on this Volt since ummm...10am yesterday, and it's STILL going strong LOL. (In comparison, my cheapie rechargeables last about 6 hours.)

You know, I suppose I could get some 0mg VG liquid (perhaps a sampler) and add a drop or two to help dilute these out to a more comfortable level.

You're welcome. You could buy some USP VG in the first aid section at the pharmacy (6 oz @ $4.00) and add some to the juice. Realize flavor and mg would be affected but possibly is you can dilute the juice with VG by 10% that would take it down a more reasonable ratio- 80/ 20 PG/ VG.

Edit: didn't realize OP was using cartridges- thought she had bottles of juice so please disregard the above...sorry.

Dripping pure VG into the clearo is going to be difficult, that stuff is thick like molasses! Buy the glycerin and add in a gallon jug of distilled water. Mix a wee bit of glycerin with a few drops of distilled water to get a thinner liquid (think the consistency of a thin oil, just barely thicker than water). Use distilled and not tap water: tap water has minerals that can clog things, plus depending on where you live it may have a noticeable and not-so-nice-to-vape flavor. A few drops of that VG/water mix in the carto may very well help with your throat hit.

You'll be left with a boatload of glycerin to use in the future, and the vast majority of a gallon of distilled water. I recommend drinking the water as you vape :D

We have the super walmart with food and I can't find this humos VG anywhere, ask the pharmist and they can order it like it says in your like. But they want $5 for shipping, Which is more than the VG itself. So anyone know where else it can be bought. I am starting to get a scratchy throat so I want to start mixing a 50/50 mix with PG and VG. Is that a good mix?

Any pharmacy in the First Aid Section- usually next to Witch Hazel and Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol...VG Glycerin is used as a skin moisturizer. Make sure it's USP.

You might want to try getting some juice from Awesome Vapor. You can't choose between pg/vg levels, but their juice seems to be "smoother" than a lot of others I have tried. I use 18mg, but you may want to try a lower nic level. Their stuff is pretty good in price, so maybe pick a flavor and get one bottle in 18mg and one bottle in 9mg to experiment a little. Plus they give a little sampler bottle with each bottle purchased so you can try another flavor! I love that!

My hubby hates throat hit too but seems to be fine with their juices. I think the watermelon and mocha are especially good. The watermelon is definitely lighter and the mocha harsher even with the same nic level, so the flavor of the juice can certainly make a difference. You may want to stick with juices that are lighter in color, as I have found the darker the liquid the harsher it seems to be, regardless of nic level.

I concur with the VG thing. Blu is VG and if I read correctly you were using their disposables which I am pretty sure is 24MG. So if you got something else that is 24 MG and is PG and having trouble with coughing I would guess it's the PG. I cannot vape high PG or I cough as well. Feels heavy on my lungs and isn't smooth. I won't go high than like 20% PG in a juice and prefer no PG.

Also welcome and good luck on your journey.
