A recent thread of mine has been deleted because it was "heading in the wrong direction". Normally I wouldn't bring it up again however the PM from the mod has me feeling a bit uncomfortable. Have you ever received a traffic ticket from a police officer and said, 'thank you' after it was handed to you? Well, the mod said "thank you" at the end of the PM and I felt obligated to say, "you're welcome." That's all I said.

I'm just feeling out of sorts, she asked me to think before I start a thread and thanked me for that, perhaps? You know like when you tell customer service to do something for you in an email and you sign it thank you. I just feel kinda dumb because I said, you're welcome

Anyway, the deleted thread was left hanging because I'm supposed to attempt my first smoking to vaping conversion tomorrow. If I start a new thread, I'm just afraid people are going to think it's a terrible thing and make comments about me and my karma again and then the thread police are going to delete it. Maybe I should confine it to here?

I am starting to get the feeling that as long as you are well liked here, you can pretty much get away with anything. I am not very well liked here, so even the tamest things that come from my keyboard are objected to. No matter! I shall be a good sport and play the game! Don't rock the boat, ruffle no feathers, and bite your lip when someone says something stupid. You will fare just fine!

I've learned that in my many years of being part of forums that you can never please everyone.

If a mod feels your thread is starting to head downhill it is well within their right to remove it.

the thank you is just a sort of customary thing, no response is necessary.

If something a mod does upsets you, PM them and talk to them about it. But do remember to stay civil, don't PM them and berate and attack them.

Remember they are in charge here and have been chosen to be in charge for a reason.

I've modded and admined many forums and a couple websites. I know that some of the staff will be more lenient and some will be more strict. But we need that balance of each. it keeps things in order.

Yes, some people who have been here longer and are better friends with mods and admins will get special treatment. but that's not just on forums. That's everywhere; Look at where you work, the new guy gets treated like dirt and has everything they do scrutinized, the 20 year worker gets away with a lot more because they know the uppers and they know what is expected and allowed.

Why do you think a celebrity can get away with drugs and various other illicit activities? yet if you did the same thing you would end up in jail?

Just learn as you go and roll with the punches.

And remember the mod is just doing their job.

I usually don't respond to these types of threads, but the entire story needs to be told here, not just one side of it.

The thread in question that was deleted was started by the OP and essentially said that she doesn't discuss vaping with any smoker she is acquainted with because, and I am quoting here "I keep vaping a secret from them. I don't want to share with them, I'd rather see them killing themselves "

The thread in question was brought to my attention by one of our newer moderators. I instructed her to delete the thread and send a PM to the OP to let her know. That type of thread simply is not in keeping with what ECF is about and really doesn't serve any useful purpose.

If the OP has a problem with anyone it should be me, since it was my decision to remove the thread. If you have an issue with a moderators decision perhaps discussing via Private Message would be a better alternative then telling veiled half-truths in public. After getting a PM from a member, there are many times that I have reinstated a post or thread. We are happy to discuss such matter in a rational way.

I find this post to be highly objectionable. :D

Seriously. I was just looking over some of your posts from the Outside Forum and found this:

I bow to all of you who are so much smarter than me. I forgot to keep my opinions to myself.

...with no reference to which post you're responding to.
It communicates victim-hood. It's possible the Outside Forum isn't a place for you to enjoy yourself. It can get rough even though it's actively moderated.

You will notice after awhile that there is a healthy respect between people who disagree passionately here. It might look mean at first glance but it's really kind of a big dysfunctional family who's members enjoy each other's company in an odd way.

If you get slammed and don't have a good rebuttal the wisest thing is to say nothing. Learn from it. You might even come to realize that you're wrong once in a while. Can you handle that? Can you admit it?

Some slams aren't worth responding to anyway. Pick your battles wisely.
People tend to look foolish when trying to deliver a clever come-back that's empty of meaning and not supporting their original statement or pointing out a flaw in the slam response. It really only serves to reveal their insecurity.

If you want to play, stick it out and acquire the skills. Be prepared to do your homework on any given subject. Google is your friend. Always post links when quoting from outside sources.

Bumper-sticker slogans and political cliches will get you slammed for sure.

I learn from everybody here and I appreciate and respect those who have the tenacity to stick it out.

BTW. I've chalked up two warnings from moderators with several of my posts deleted and some of the most prolific, interesting and opinionated posters here have been put in the penalty box once or twice. It's really not the "favorites game" it appears to be.

Edit:
Never mind.
I just realized that I was posting in the Lounge. Thought I was still in the Outside.
All of my points are now moot.

I never said killing themselves, I said "smoke until their demise", we all die eventually. However it was another poster that wanted their frenemies hit by a car, painless and fast. I want mine to continue smoking, until they die, big difference. No unnatural loss of life wished on from me. A lot of other people read the thread that can confirm this.

The thread in question was brought to my attention by one of our newer moderators. I instructed her to delete the thread and send a PM to the OP to let her know. That type of thread simply is not in keeping with what ECF is about and really doesn't serve any useful purpose.

I don't have a problem with it, just curious where did it "take a turn for the worst" or something like that? Because the last I remember in the thread, I agreed to make an attempt to share vaping with the 3 smokers. Which I unsuccessfully did last night. That thread was up for a couple days and when people were taking it off topic saying how pathetic I was nothing was deleted then, only when a poster talked me into changing my mind is when it got deleted. I thought it was heading in a good direction.

I know the lounge isn't the place to discuss these sorts of experiences, so where would I post my attempt at conversion story?

vari maybe you missed El's suggestion here:
If you have an issue with a moderators decision perhaps discussing via Private Message

Moderators have to look through many threads and make decisions, plus spend time preventing spammers from infesting the threads in the forum... it is always easier to have a discussion one on one via PM .. and though it might take longer than in the open forum.. there will be less interruptions and less of a chance for it going down an unproductive route.

Oops, my mistake, I did say killing themselves but I eventually said smoke until their demise, in the same paragraph about a sentence or so apart. People unwittingly do something that draws them closer to death everyday. As if nobody has anything but good feelings for everyone, I'm human and don't claim to be perfect and there are people I don't care for. Although I feel a lot better knowing I am surrounded by people with nothing but pure dishonest thoughts. Please excuse my honesty, it's obviously one of my character defects.

This thread was nothing personal about the mod that originally notified me, like I said I thought it was awkward that I said 'you're welcome' after the PM. Like saying thank you after being handed a traffic ticket.
