I was coughing quite a bit when I switched from prefilled Blu cartos to my DIY juices, possibly from the fact that with the Blu I was still able to inhale deep like an analog. The huge clouds of vapor I got off the DIY juice made me change my vaping up quite a bit, I inhale shallow and do one more mouth pull before I exhale, it helps quite a bit.

Even weeks after switching from prefilled I still cough if I inhale too much, just go with whats comfortable, you'll still get the fix. :)

In my experience it has little to do with the pg/vg ratio or nic level, the less I vape the more I cough when I do vape, and the more I vape the less I cough when I vape. (I still use analogs) Every smoker I know that tries my PV coughs.

Smoker Lungs + vaping = coughing

Vape more, smoke less and you will likely cough little to none.

This may sound like a silly suggestion, but maybe to rule out the PG/VG ratio thing,
go to a local store that sells blu products and pick up a disposable blu. These have no PG.
If you puff on one of those and still cough, it's not the PG. At about ten bucks, this may
not be the most cost effective method of ruling out PG, but it would probably be the easiest. ;p

When I first started vaping I coughed like crazy( I was coughing before I started vaping), the PG started braking up the crap in my lungs and thinning it. 22 days later I dont cough anymore and can take a full breath and full vape without coughing up a lung. It might help if you use some flavor with menthol or mint in it, that did help me some. I use 100% PG.

I haven't read the whole thread but I have a neighbor who has the same problem. I finally set her up with a cartomizer and she didn't cough so I would suggest trying that. I think it may take awhile to get your lungs used to vapor for some and hers are in really bad shape. The problem is she wants to keep them that way with cigarettes.

I just wanted to come back and update everyone who was so helpful with their tips!! :) To be honest, I got so frustrated, I just kind of walked away from all of this for a while - then went to go back, and one of my batteries was a goner (the clearo was still on and I think some of it leaked - regardless, it was dead, wouldn't charge). So, I started from scratch - 2 new Ego-T's, some new juice at 50pg/50vg, a slightly higher nic level (as a pack and half a day smoker, I had only started with juice that was 12 mg's and 8 mg's - way too low).

So, in the end, I definitely think it was the pg that was making me cough - Sunday I put some of HHV's Peppermint Blast (50/50, 15 mg's) into my clearo and it was like the holy grail - haven't picked up an analog in over 52 hours! :D And more importantly, haven't coughed once.

So, for anyone new and struggling that might read this - you will get to where you want to be, it just takes time and some trial & error. Be prepared to be surprised about what flavors you might like - I was completely convinced I'd be the sweet/desserty type - yet it's anything peppermint that has turned out to be my absolute favorite! The TH & flavor from this peppermint blast has left me not craving or missing analog's at all. (after 18 years of smoking - that's just crazy!) :) Be prepared to experiment a lot - pg/vg/nic level/flavor etc.! - once it all comes together, it is so worth it!
