I want to start this off by saying: I don't get sick. I haven't been sick with anything in 5 years and I don't even have allergy issues every year like I used to. However, Friday I started feeling a little achy (day 12 of no cigs and 100% vaping Desert Ship). Saturday I barely got out of bed, had the chills to the bone, achy, the runs, and was coughing so hard my whole body hurt. I never really hacked up anything unless it was first thing in the morning, but consistent dry coughing all day long. Here it is Wednesday and I went from flu symptoms to reeeaaallly bad allergies. Eyes have been watering since Monday, sneezing, nose goes from stopped up, to running, to dry over and over all day. Plus I'm still coughing my dry cough but not as often or hard.

Is this some sort of side effect to quitting smoking or starting vaping? Or did I just coincedentally get sick as a dog with a flu/cold and allergies all at once?

Your body can go through some pretty radical changes when you stop smoking. I'm not sure if that is the cause or if you just caught something really nasty. I used to get sick all the time but rarely do since I switched. You might want to check out some of the stickies regarding side effects and some things to look for when you stop smoking. Most people go through congestion and coughing due to the tar build up from years of smoking finally clearing itself out of your lungs. It can take a few days to a few weeks but then clears up.

If it continues or gets worse, you should also see a doctor.

I don't go to the doctor when I'm sick. It's a stubborn man thing I guess. I'm 33 and have never once been to the doctor for anything other than a physical.
Well my parents took me a few times as a child, but that's it.

This isn't the first time I've quit smoking and I have read up on the quitter's flu, but I don't remember ever being like this from quitting smoking. It's almost over so the worst is behind me. So glad to be on the road to recovery.

Not to discount your condition, but has your water intake increased dramatically since you started vaping?

Vaping without increasing water intake can lead to hangover like effects.

I agree with ctourtelot, don't confuse us with doctors or proper medical care.

I've always been a water drinker. I drink about 6 or so cups daily. If I need to up it I will.

And I was mainly looking for other people's experiences. I'm going to live. haha

I tend to only go to the doctors if I start bleeding out my eyeballs myself, so I can understand that. I will second Hoosier's suggestion on the water intake. PG and VG are both humecants and will dry you out so upping your water intake is a must. The increased water will also help flush out the toxins in your system from smoking more quickly....and it's just good for you.

I think I went through a similar experience. I've been smoke free now going on 8 days and last week I got sick, I had a stuffy nose, sore throat, watery eyes, at night i would have chills but wake up with a sweaty shirt and it wen on like this through the weekend. I hardly get sick myself and just thought it was a common cold, but a part of me was also thinking that I could have been my body trying to rid of the smoking I did for so many years. Today I feel fine, never did go to the doctor and I do believe that it was the tobacco withdrawal.

I know from my own experience, when i started soully vaping i was hacking up lung butter and tar every morning for a few weeks. But thats pretty normal from what i gather. It also happens when i have to go back to stinkies(either waiting on juice, attys or batts are dead and i cant get home for a fresh set) on a much shorter timeframe, but its still pretty nasty. It goes away eventually. I imagine its just your lungs repairing themselfs.

Well most people will get some side effects when they quit smoking (whether they start vaping or not), but what you're describing is much more sever than anything that should be expected. My two cents? You picked up a bug. It happens, even if you don't get sick often. Just remember, there is not a human on the planet that can't get sick.

Can I offer my 2 cents? What PC are you using? Is it one like fuma or exhale 02 or NV? Maybe one that looks like a traditional cigarette? If it is then I felt your pain (literally). If it is then you need to set it aside for a day. Get Gatorade or powerade (the ion 4's orange or red are great), hot showers or baths too. Too much of I and you are dehydrated plus your body is now trying to kick out the nic and other filthy mcnasties in there. Not saying getting better is going to be easier but if you do not getting hydrated (oh Ginger ale is good to) then I is going to hurt more.
But please bare in mind I am not a doctor (I just play one int he forum)........if it is the one's ghastly look like a traditional cigarette I think I have a theory to your reaction to it, but I will bounce this. Idea off someone later.....
That being said I hope out get to feeling better soon

These are withdrawal effects very common with people quitting with smoking however if you are vaping from the day you quit cigs with nicotine liquid you shouldnt be feeling this rough, the main headaches, nausia, tiredness all come from lack of nicotine. Everything else such as coughing will be a result of your body getting all that crap from your system such as the tar and stuff. If it continues go to your doctor.

I agree its probably a bug. I've heard some friends tell me they feel nausea (due to nic overdose?) And throat soreness (I believe is them inhaling burnt wicking instead of not using a fresh cart). I have not heard your story, and I haven't been sick. Quit for 2 weeks now, hopefully I will continue without any sickness.

Yes. I got sick too. Kit arrived monday the 6th,charged for most of the day so I only vaped about 20 minutes the first night. Tuesday was my first full day of vaping. Wednesday, woke up with a sore throat, headache and sinus issues. By 2:30 wednesday afternoon I was couch bound under a pile of blankets feeling all achey and freezing like I was running a temperature. Thursday morning felt so crappy I actually stayed home from work. Finally started feeling like I was gonna survive by Saturday evening. Did I just happen to pick up a "bug" at coincidentally the same time I quit smoking and started vaping??? IDK. I am beginning to think that some people do truly get physically sick, like the flu...
One thing I have noticed in my short vaping career is the water issue. Drink, drink, drink water!!! This was advice everyone said when I was just getting started, and I thought I was drinking enough, because my throat didn't feel dry or anything, but I know already that if I don't drink enough I will wake up in the morning with severe hayfever symptoms, and generally feel like crap until I get re-hydrated. So for me, I am really making the effort to drink a lot of water (this is actually harder than it has been to not smoke an analog... go figure).

Anyway, I know where you are coming from as it sounds exactly like what happened to me when I first started.

Feel better... Peace.

I'll up my water intake. I have even cut down to 1 12 oz can of Pepsi a day. But, I usually drink about 6 cups of water a day. I'll up that. Might even try to double it.

And the kit I'm using is a 510 box mod that I ordered from Madvapes already assembled.

I found a USA eliquid site a few days ago that had Desert Ship that had options for VG and PG %. I didn't bookmark the site but I believe they had at least a 70vg to 30pg mix available. Unfortunately I still have about 80ml of what I've been using and I have no idea the % of vg/pg in it.
