So, what pieces were you thinking of having machined?

I ask, as you know from idle self-interest - i actually have material and a drawing for mine. The difference is that what i get done would be a one-off, to fit my fav Dibi - as a repair/replacement and to accommodate my magnets.

If you went a certain route, you'd have to standardise some of your processes, probably to an extent that parts would be interchangeable between mods.

As far as wait times go, I'm very excited to report that I just burned through a lot of #s trying to gather up this next run. I think I'm at #140 on the list now. Odd, you may say, that I'm so excited about dropouts; but look . . . . . . I got friends n' peeps here, itching to get one, and it makes me so happy to tell them it's their turn. Meanwhile, I have this list of names of people I've never heard from again after a single PM, asking to be put on the list. Of course, it's my obligation to contact them, and when they do reply in the positive, and I see there's a real person on the other end of that username, I'm totally psyched to make them a mod. Like I said a while back, I can tell (based on who drops by here and who is just a mysterious username on the list, and the thickness of those patterns) that I've hit a patch where there's this large proportion of people who signed on because it was a bright shiny squirrel thing, and have basically completely forgotten all about it. So, estimated wait times may get smallerererer. ;) After that, tho, we'll hit the group of folks who saw this thing around for a while, knew there was going to be quite a wait, and signed on anyway.

The other thing, about waiting. I may not succeed, but I can tell that I've got a design in me that I won't be able to keep myself from pursuing. It will be based on less shop time for parts and aspects that are just as well subbed out to a high quality machine shop. Once my brain goes there, it gets excited . .. . which I know will result in a desire to meld what a good machine shop has to offer with what i do best. A blend of handcrafted wood married* to a sleek metal frame in a creative fashion. . . . . . . .. . Is what I'm thinking. . . ... . lately . . . . .
Needless to say, such a mod would be produced fasterer, or morerer, or something.

*actually, not married . . . just sleeping together . . . doing a lot of touching.

That is good news Mr. P.
The decreased time per run and therefore more mods per year will pay for the cost of machining? In theory? :D
I have accepted the fact that I'm a greedy SOB and am looking forward to #3, somewhere in the 260's.

if this means getting mods out faster, a certain person i know could accept stuff less fasterer or less morerer...

as long as we don't have to sleep together.

There are some people who are committed, or should be.

I have questions regarding your new vision. Are we talking a metal frame with wood panels? If not, what purpose does the metal frame serve? If so, that means it will be quite different aesthetically, yes?

It's a hazy image in my mind right now. It would be somewhat different. It would be quite different. This would be about designing the best mod I could (for me), the most creative, attractive, user friendly mod I could, with the new "rules for creativity" being: (1) allow for availing myself of a machine shop* and some professional machining (2) focus on blending hand shaped parts with always exactly the same machined parts. I imagine some people (maybe almost everyone) would opt for it. I could still make handmade runs of the classic design, I imagine. If I get a whole idea worked out to where I think it would work and I found it to be more appealing: then (after that) would be the time to worry about how it fits into reality.

*designing shapes and structures that I couldn't make myself, and couldn't repeat with precision.

nope.
