I am convinced that Facebook is an idiot magnet. If you want to scare the hell out of the greatest number of stupid people with the least amount of effort, a Facebook post is your best bet.

As the old saying goes, a lie can travel halfway round the world before the truth even gets its boots on.

I almost think Twitter might have that title. I have said many times Twitter's slogan should be "Allowing the chronically stupid to whine about nothing and everything all at once since 2005".

Dearest wife's Kool's are $62.90 a carton (note my location!). I know in some of the upper east coast states, the "tax" is greater than the cost of the pack.

I just read an article from last year about the prices in New York:

the most expensive cigarettes costing on average $12.85 per pack (New York). Overall smoking is an expensive habit and in one year in New York it is possible to spend over $4,690 for cigarettes alone.

If only it weren't vaping (which I have a vested interest in) I am afraid I would mentally be "saluting" whoever came up with the term "Juuling" to allow every other teen to get on more stealthily with what they tend to get on with (sex, drugs, and rock n roll) without their mommies being concerned about empty beer cans under the mattress and little baggies of odd stuff. The mommies now KNOW that it is the "Juul" that should cause fear and suffering in their hearts.

There will be a facebook group soon: "Mothers Afraid In Juuling Overdosed Rage" and we could have "MAJOR" Juul bumper stickers. It's gonna be great, and I would buy one and ironically place it on my bumper which has only ever had ONE bumper sticker before, which was "I am from Texas, what country are you from?"

Because, I fell in LOVE with Texas when I visited. I would have sold an ovary or at least an egg to buy property there, but unfortunately by then I had the kind of diagnoses that make infertile couples go visit the teen who "don't know who the daddy is," for an adoption, feeling it a safer bet.

If she won't quit cigarettes you have to entertain the idea of rolling your own. Its not hard if you keep the tobacco fresh. I bought a Juul for the Wife and it still has the original Classic Menthol pod in it. [emoji852]️ As you probably know if they're not ready to quit you can't force it.

I have been rolling her cigarettes for over 10 years for under $30 for 3 cartons worth. Premier menthol filters with Good Stuff menthol "pipe" (used loosely for tax purposes) tobacco. She won't even smoke her old brand anymore unless she is completely out and the tobacco shop is closed, and complains about it the whole time.

I haven't smoked since '02 so unfortunately I can't tell you how they compare to Kool.

Or, buy an automatic injector machine, tubes, and cans of American Spirit tobacco, off the reservation. It's the only our family (mainly me) could keep our tobacco habit remotely feasible. I can't imagine how I'd have fared buying 3 packs a day.... Not well.

Oh well, at least I approached COPD early and often, and although my lung capacity still has much suckage to it, well, I'm breathing better, and I often said "COPD" would be my downfall as a smoker.....

Plus, those last 18 months of smoking were EXPENSIVE. Not the tobacco, but all the medical costs, OMG. Plus, steroids. I get they're useful and all, but man, steroids have to be one of the most unpleasant drugs of all time (IMO).

And that's for a piker who's only smoking one pack a day!

I would speculate that most of us smoked more than that. I know I did.

If we lived in New York I'd be growing my own tobacco.
Roughly half the cigarettes sold there are "black market".

It's only about 250 miles from Virginia, which still has some of the lowest cig taxes in the country, to NYC....

At those prices I don't doubt it. I am honestly shocked the % of the "black market" isn't higher.

There are laws against selling to minors same as there are laws against them using alcohol

The first time we make alcohol illegal because some underage kids got a hold of some we can consider outlawing a vaping device for the same reason. ..

The government needs to go after the source of how these kids are getting their hands on things they aren't old enough to buy, and stop messing around with the people who can engage in what they are engaging in legally, because they are plenty old enough, and doing so for their own health.
I was thinking about this - don't you have to order the pods and have them delivered? Someone is paying for them, and they're being delivered somewhere. So, either the parents are supporting it, it they're not home, or, what?

I agree that for a non-nic user, 50 mg/ml nic salts will probably alter one's consciousness in some way, resulting in a mild nicotine buzz, possibly some nausea, but even with nic salts, it's really hard to vape oneself into a state of true danger, you are going to want to stop WAY before then....

I once overate nutmeg cookies in HS (at the right dose, it's psychoactive, and in a rather unpleasant way, I was pretty much confined to bed for three days). I learnt my lesson, but I don't think anyone went on the war cry against nutmeg. It was far more dangerous than the Juul, I'm fairly certain.

It really just is keeping up with the "hot topic teen self-harm" rotation... Which changes all the time. Right now it's the Juul. Later it will be something else. I still think the Juul is a better choice than cigarettes, however.

Also, there are plenty of folks who started smoking in middle school. My husband was 8, for example. I don't think tobacco should be outlawed either.

ETA: If we outlawed every dumb thing teens did, we'd all be in prison, or at least out on "good behavior" with an ankle monitor. KWIM?

There are two ways to purchase e-cigarettes. . One is to walk into your local vape shop, and the other is to order online.

When you order from most vape shops there are a couple different ways they check ID.

One is through a basic credit check type system where your name, DOB and address all have to match up in the system..

The other is where you send in a clear picture of you holding your ID next to your face, where DOB and address and face can be seen clearly..

The photo of your ID along with a photo of you holding your ID next to your face can't be faked.

The credit check method is equally difficult since a credit card in the same name should be used... and parents would definitely catch that on their credit card statement, not to mention getting mail in their name past them when it was delivered to their house.

In either case the parents would seem to have to know and also be complicit in their child's vaping habits.

The only other way is if some vape shops are selling to minors in person or online, OR, minors are loitering around vape shops and hitting up customers who are old enough to buy for them...

The later I've heard of actually, from someone on the forum. . They mentioned they found it irritating as heck to be hassled by underage kids everytime they wanted to visit a vape shop and if memory serves me correctly they were from New York.

Apparently there was no effort to run the kids off the property by management so their customers could attend the store hassle free.

So, perhaps there are young adults who have no problem walking into a shop and buying something for underage kids, or perhaps parents are helping because they'd rather see their kid vape than do other things or perhaps there are a couple vape shops who aren't doing a good enough job verifying age online - or even perhaps a mixture of the three..

Yeah cigarettes in NY are $12.50-13. Finding bootleg cigarettes really depends on where you live. Makes the cost of even high end vape gear seem like a bargain.

As for Juuling, the problem is it eventually leads to sexting. And from there it spirals down until cats are breeding with dogs and Western civilization collapses.
