What wood is that?
Absolutely stunning piece, and a crying shame it's not an Oliver. Sorry not the regulated type myself. Now you need to tell me where you get these fine pieces of lumber from Peter because I must get one like that to send you. The finish on it brother is absolutely stunning, hat off to ya.
I am totally in love with this piece also. Would love to know what kind of wood this is. Amazing display of creativity that u have by giving these pieces such character. Thank you for sharing your gift with us!
ETA: I hear by declare you PDIB THE WOODWISPERER......
as long as you're here, and paying attention . . .

So, in answer to a couple of questions: both of those are blocks/blanks that ValHeli hunted up on the interschnitzel. I don't know how he does it; but he's kin'a ninja like that. From the variety of sources he got pieces from, I would guess he was searching far and wide. Also, his approach is/was daring. He has quite a few pieces here that may or may not work for a mod. Both of these were pretty big question marks. The one is Tamarind Burl (as 2-2-0 mentioned above), and there's some discussion about that here:
KInÑyeé's question . . .
The other (↓) is a resin cast Amboyna burl. And I don't have much to say about that, except, using that type of mixed-media, cooked up in a pot, materials is gonna run with some risk of failure (in fabrication or after some use).

Thanks Peter, I'm gonna do some research into sourcing the most sexy piece of wood I can possibly find. Heck if I'm waiting almost 2 years for Sumpin I might as well make it my mission to find the ultimate piece of lumber

That there is my Sumpin's (I named it Todd) brother! Would be cool if they were united
I knew you would like that one Cap'n! It's my fave out of the bunch alsoAbsolutely stunning piece, and a crying shame it's not an Oliver. Sorry not the regulated type myself. Ain't that the truth! My wife STILL insists I look at links to interesting pieces at times.[Sourcing wood] can become a somewhat obsessive hobby.
Think big.Those damn dimensions.
This mite be a dumb question but, Do the people on the list supply there own wood?
